Summary

Living on an island plagued by magic and mythical monsters isn’t a fairy tale...it’s a nightmare.

After Keelynn witnesses her sister's murder at the hands of the legendary Gancanagh, an immortal creature who seduces women and kills them with a cursed kiss, she realizes there’s nothing she wouldn't do to get her back. With the help of a vengeful witch, she’s given everything she needs to resurrect the person she loves most.

But first, she must slay the Gancanagh.

Tadhg, a devilishly handsome half-fae who has no patience for high society—or propriety—would rather spend his time in the company of loose women and dark creatures than help a human kill one of his own.

That is until Keelynn makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

Together, they embark on a cross-country curse-breaking mission that promises life but ends in death.

There aren’t enough superlatives or stars to describe this perfection

I had read another review which was so enthusiastic that my interest was piqued. I’m now convinced that, not only is this one of (if not) THE best FR/RF books I’ve ever experienced but also the narrators had a thoroughly perfect harmony going with each other in this engrossing story. Unputdownable. Enchanting. Swoonworthy. Wonderful characters one and all. Enchanting world. Enough Angst and slow burn and passion and frustration and twists and turns to keep you throwing yourself onto random pieces of furniture as you faint away with anticipation. Full marks Jenny Hickman and full marks to Zura and Zachary Johnson for bringing the characters to audible life!

One of the best Romantasy books ever!

OMG that was a freaking rollercoaster. I laughed, cried, and fell in love. I do have this book on Kindle, but when Jenny showed a preview of this book on IG OMG I fell in love with the voice actors. Jenny has chosen the perfect people for this book! Audiobook was just perfect it was never a dull moment and if I could give 10/10 I WOULD GIVE them all the stars because Jenny, Zura, and Zachary deserve so much. I just had to shout and tell everyone about this audiobook. It's just a must-have in your audio library if you are a romantasy lover!

The Performance between Zura and Jeremy was just IMMACULATE! They really made this book come alive and I felt so many feelings and I have become attached to the characters. I have gone through all the feelings of sadness, anger, love, and happiness. I was very in love with Tadhg. I couldn't help but sigh and swoon like a maiden because of him. I do love that there were feelings, put into the audiobook. Definitely, plus point for me. Listening to the voice actors made me disappear from irl. LOL! It was just beautiful and I wouldn't mind listening to this audiobook again and again.

Story

Jenny, Jenny, Jenny the only thing I regret is not going through this story as soon as I could, but I was super glad that this audiobook was worth the credit and I am very happy. Honestly, sometimes I just want to hit Keelyn in the head, but she had her reasons and there were circumstances, but sometimes ahhh!

HOWEVER, I super love the story. I am so in love with it. Tadhg is just EVERYTHING. Even if he be morally gray, he is just. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK OR BETTER YET SPEND A CREDIT FOR THIS AUDIOBOOK TO FIND OUT! In the first few chapters I knew, I would love the book and there were a lot of trials, PLOT TWISTS, secrets, and a lot of frustrating moments, but!!! It was SUPER WORTH IT! This is one of the best fantasy books I have ever come crossed and I am very excited to read the 2nd book!!! Also, I need Rian's story :)

This audio book made me tear up. I just can't. I am in love. No regrets :)

GET IT. YOU WON'T REGRET IT :)

loved it!!!

Wow, wow wow!! I have the biggest book hangover ever!!

I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this book. I had all the feelings, I genuinely mean that. I cried, I laughed and I smiled while reading this book. At one stage my husband asked me what was wrong because I gasped and put my hand over my heart, the next he asked me if I wanted to put the book in the freezer (friends reference). This book moved me and even now while writing this review, I can't wait to pick it up again and reread some of my favourite scenes!

Keelynn is determined to resurrect her sister after she witnessed the Gancanagh kill her with a cursed kiss. With the help of a vengeful witch and half-fae, Tadhg, Keelynn must kill the Gancanagh. However, everything isn't what it may seem.

Wow! SO first off, Keelynn - She has been through so much and yes, she has made some mistakes but she takes everything in her stride and has grown so much throughout. She took on this task with so much loyalty and determination, it was admirable.

Tadhg, OOOHHH Tadhg, I don't know where to start with him. Being half-fae, in a world that doesn't accept his kind, was heartbreaking. Yet, his wit and sense of humour were hilarious! Even in the darkest of situations, his one-liners had me laughing out loud. I loved him and the more I learnt about him, I loved him even more!!

What I loved most about this book was I couldn't predict it. I actually had to reread parts because I was so shocked, I had to make sure I read it right! It kept me on my toes the entire way through! I was completely captivated by this story. Not only by the characters but by the environment and world Jenny Hickman created. I will admit, I don't read a lot of fantasy books, because I feel I can't "park" the real world and slip into a fantasy one, however with this book I did. I was there. I could visualise everything and I felt every emotion these characters felt. There were so many layers, twists and turns, it was entertaining from start to finish!

I highly highly, HIGHLY recommend this fantasy romance book.

Was Looking for the Next Great Story...

and I found it in A Cursed Kiss. It feels like a cross between Pride and Prejudice and ACOTAR. Two very different genres: Old England aristractic drama/romance meets a world of fae, witches and other worldly creatures. I'm glad I found this gem. Also, I thought the narration was going to be problem for me, but I actually truly enjoyed how her accent added to the main character's personality.

I tried to finish…

But this was just too frustrating to continue. We have a female MC who makes rash decisions and then claims to know everything/is too stubborn to see things from all possible sides before entering a contract to kill a “beast” (but has never killed anyone from what I’m to understand, much less a magical “monster”). When she’s shown her upbringing was wrong concerning her beliefs about those who are different than her, she still thinks to herself not to trust them and continues to try to point out how different (does she mean better? It comes across this way) she is than all the “monsters” around her. It’s understandable that this way of thinking is ingrained in her and won’t be solved in one chapter but how repetitive it is is so grating. You can make a flawed MC and still make them LIKABLE. Also, when we meet our MC, she is arguing with her sister. So I’m to believe she is willing to go through all this for a sister we’re not shown any other perspective of all the way to chapter 11 aside from the MC being upset that her sister can’t give her what she wants? I think we’re told her sister has always been there for her but even though her sister wasn’t a willing participant in the betrayal, it still didn’t translate very well between our introduction to them and what the MC tells us later. Maybe we’re shown a more loving aspect to their relationship later but I won’t be finding out.
As for the romance, it’s a bit cringe. I kept listening up to chapter 11 because Teek (sp) seems like an interesting character but he’s overly sexual with the way he speaks… all the time. This constant innuendo permeates the story so there’s little else to their budding romance and I don’t feel any real tension from the story in general. It’s like she’s on vacation with a man she “hates” instead of racing against time to save her sister. Sure, we’re told they have 12 days but they’re always at an inn or tavern or whatever; they don’t seem hurried at all or weary from traveling. I will say the magic system and its rules was interesting. Decent explanation for why Teek can’t just magically transport them to where they need to be. But if I hear “his teeth raked over his lips…oh, his lips!” one more time… needless to say I’m returning. Narrators did the best they could with the material.

This book had everything!

What a great book. the plot, the flawed characters, the narration. I highly recommend. It is not a spicy romance if that is what you are looking for. This is more of a slow burn.

This story had so many layers to it. One of the best audibles have listened to in a while.

EPIC!

This. BOOK!!

Holy gods this was so amazingly good!

I’m addicted to this story. The imagery, the intensity, and overall concept was fantasticly executed.

Tadhg is now my new favorite MMC. Through and through. Keelynn is a bit daft at times but it fit the story so well. And Rory. I love that man’s character and wish to see more of him soon.

Tadhg is deliciously naughty and funny. The later half of the book was intensely engrossing.

The end of chapter 24 wrecked my heart in the best ways. So much so, I paused my listening and messaged Hickman and sent her this note that basically can sum up the entirety of the book and how I feel about it having freshly finished it:

“Oh my feckin heart the end of Chp 24 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Get this book, now. You will not be disappointed.

If you like a Damsel in distress , it’s a good story.

This is a story where the damsel in distress needs to be rescued by the cad with a big heart . If you like this trope it’s a good book , The story had many twists and turns. Some of the trouble they get into is caused by the FMC being naïve. I prefer a more Bad-Axx female who can rescue herself ( and a bit more spice) so I won’t be continuing the series. Overall, it was an okay book but just not my preference. The narration was very very good and made it an easy listen.

Who’da thunk?!

So unexpectedly great. Truly a wonderful book. I personally love fantasy/sci-fi romances (preferably steamy). This one hit the mark.
My one disappointment was the Female Lead’s immature and selfish way of thinking sometimes, I had to skip through some of her inner monologues because yelling “ugh how blind are you?! Naive wench!!” In the office is frowned upon. However, the writer did a great job either way. Thank you for this :)
P.S female narrator - was okay
Male narrators voice made me want to purr <3

Love love love

I literally never write reviews, so when I tell you that this book was EVERYTHING, you need to listen. I’m an avid audio book listener and the narration in this book was stellar. The storyline was superb. I loved how you got to watch the FMC change and grow throughout the book. The MMC was perfect! I loved it and can’t wait for the next book. This book was a completed storyline, no cliffhangers which I loved. Will definitely be reading the next book by this author.

Can't get these characters out of my head

Zura and Zachary did a phenomenal job bringing Hickman's characters to life! The angst. The banter. The swoon-worthy romance. So good. I have recommended this to everyone I know. So good. Cannot wait to hear book 2!
