About this listen

Almost 20 years after the barrier between Earth and the Otherworld fell in the Fae Wars, Budapest is balancing on the precipice.

A battle for dominance is brewing between the elite fae and the privileged humans in Eastern Europe. The prejudice between the sides is bubbling with hate and violence.

Nineteen-year-old human, Brexley, has grown up in privilege, but not without heartbreak. After being orphaned, she is taken in by General Markos, living in a walled city rife with power grabs and ruthless political games. Then, one night, the course of her life changes, and Brexley is thrown into the most feared prison in the east. Halalhaz, the House of Death - where you go in but don’t come out. She must learn to live with the worst of fae and human criminals. The rule of hierarchy puts humans on the bottom, where the only way to survive each day is to make alliances with the fae.

Here, she meets the sexy, vicious legend, Warwick Farkas; a myth among man and fae. He is as brutal, cruel, arrogant, and as lethal as the lore says he is. He rules the prison with unchallenged authority. Brexley can’t deny an intense draw to him, one that might cost her life...if The Games - a fight to the death where only one survives - don’t take her out first.

Savage Lands is set in the same world as the Darkness, Collector and Lightness Saga series, but can be listened to as a stand-alone.

As per my review title, this book is a bit of a slow starter but do try and stick with it, you won't be disappointed! I had a bit of a struggle getting used to the style of the narrator, however I do think she really does a great job defining the characters.
The main character, Rex, begins as a rebellious teenager living in the lap of luxury and getting her kicks sneaking around. But things go wrong pretty fast for her....
That's all I will say about the plot - no spoilers here - however I must confess that at times I wanted to scream at and/or shake Rex so badly I had to stop listening for a minute and take a deep breath. It's not a bad thing - I'm a parent to 2 teens and I can totally confirm that that is a pretty accurate reaction to have!
I had already bought and downloaded part 2 before I got halfway, and I've no doubt I will want to finish the series. If you enjoy a bit of sexy action packed supernatural mystery then give it a go

Slow to start, hang in there!

I have a pet peeve about books being overly serialised ie the book not feeling complete. While plenty happens in this first book it doesn’t feel like any questions are answered and it ends in an unsatisfying cliffhanger. It’s engaging if you can bear with the constant horniness which doesn’t abate in the face of any danger including a fight to the death. Have a feeling there will be some ‘bond’ type explanation for that but you won’t find out in this book so it feels overly ridiculous. Narration is a bit affected but good

Engaging but feels like half a book

cannot recommend this book highly enough. For lovers of Sarah J. Maas, Raven Kennedy et Al this story will fill the gap briefly prior to HOSAB coming out. Fae, Demon, shifter, human, other...it's all here! if you are looking for action, strong women and strong dominant men all getting it on against the background of war this is for you. What makes it though is the narrator 10/10

brilliant narrator

Absolutely loved this book! Kaminsky narrates the story really well helping you get lost in the allll the action. Straight onto the next book!

Thrilling, dark and very spicy!

A strong FMC, a mysteriously dark, brooding man, humans and Fae and set in Budapest? Right up my street.

Great start to the series

Decent book but slow overall. More of a setup book then a stand alone story.

Enjoyed it, little slow.

Would thoroughly recommend - from start to finish it was action packed and full of spice and emotion - wonderful! Can’t wait for second book.

This book is really interesting in the way that it has lots of usual tropes but is interesting and keeps interest. Good voices for the males and Eve’s narration on the whole was great. Shame she couldn’t pronounce Warwick’s name though and that was annoying throughout. Unless the author intended that - which is also weird! Good book though.

Had no idea what this was about but it was a really great surprise.
