Summary

When an experimental starship test goes horribly wrong, a test pilot from Earth is flung across the galaxy and crash lands on the planet of a powerful alien king.

Pilot Mallory West is having a really bad day. She’s crashed on an alien planet, her ship is in pieces, and her best friend Poppy, the scientist monitoring the experiment, is missing. Dazed and injured, she collapses into the arms of a big, silver-eyed warrior king. But when her rescuer cuffs her to a bed and accuses her of being a spy, Mal knows she has to escape her darkly tempting captor and find her friend.

Overlord Rhain Zhalto Sarkany is in a battle to protect his planet Zhalto and his people from his evil, power-hungry father. He’ll use every one of his deadly Zhalton abilities to win the fight against his father’s lethal warlord and army of vicious creatures. Rhain suspects the tough, intriguing woman he pulls from a starship wreck is a trap, but when Mal escapes, he is compelled to track her down.

Fighting their overwhelming attraction, Mal and Rhain join forces to hunt down the warlord and find Poppy. But as Mal’s body reacts to Zhalto’s environment, it awakens dormant powers, and Rhain is the only one who can help her. As the warlord launches a brutal attack, it will take all of Mal and Rhain’s combined powers to save their friends, the planet, and themselves.

Gripping & Out of this World Amazing!

This is fantastic, out of this world, SciFi romance novel is captivating from start to end. It is my second book written by Anna Hackett, she is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style and it is great to see another side of her brilliant mind as she creates this imaginative and fascinating story and world filled with equally fascinating and imaginative characters, characters that are easy to relate to and connect with. Pilot Mallory “Mal” West is testing a new starship in outer space when she gets caught up in a wormhole and winds up crashing on an unknown planet that is galaxies away from Earth. She survives the crash, but the craft broke apart on impact and the half of the starship missing contained her only other passenger, her friend, Poppy, a scientist monitoring the experiment. Mal is frantic to find her but runs into trouble, a monstrous being that she needs to fight off, she in injured in the fight and winds up getting captured. She does not know what planet she is on or where in the universe she is. Overlord Rhain Zhalto Sakany is amidst a battle to protect his planet from his father, who has been sending monsters to attack his people. When he captured Mal, he did not know if she is working for his father, so she needed to be held until he finds out. But Mal is determined to find her friend, and no one is going to stop her, not even the Overlordship King. Rhain catches her soon after her escape, but he has bigger fish to fry first and she not only helps him, but she turns out to be a tremendous asset working by his side. It seems like the planet, Zhalto, agrees with Mal and she is adapting in several interesting ways. The chemistry between her and Rhain is electric and undeniable. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is an action packed, cleverly plotted story with plenty of drama, some angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and an out of this world, steamy, romance. Anna Hackett, thank you for the wonderful story, I am looking forward to what comes next in this amazing series and world you created.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter were the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Vivienne Leheny’s Mallory was spot on, grasped both her her strength and badassery, Stephen Dexter nailed it as the great alpha-lord Rhain. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary character as well. They set the perfect tone and pace for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen.

Sexy overlord and No damsel in distress

I loved the narration of both male and female narrators. They didn’t take away from performance with switch overs. The female voice was low and I found her tone and pronunciations of her words rather easy to listen to. The male was just as awesome and they work quite well together. I liked some parts of the sorry, especially the banter refreshing. This was a strong female character and she was well written. The earthling on a new planet has been told a million times and in a million ways, I liked this one very much. I didn’t like the final battle scene. Some things didn’t add up. The diversion diverted so well, almost no one was left in the compound when they entered. I struggled to visualize what was happening, thats why I give the story 4 instead of 5.
Otherwise I do recommend it, the relationship and sex scene was very well developed.
Happy Listening

Great start to a new series!

This is the first in a series but Rhain was introduced in a prior book of this author's and since then, I've been waiting impatiently for his story. (the prior book is Weapon's Master, of the Galactic Gladiators House of Rone series and the whole series, including the predecessor, Galactic Gladiators, are must read or listen sci fi romance novels because of the awesome, smart and strong women, the alpha men who are swoon worthy, and the exciting plots and action.)

In this story, pilot (and amazing fighter), Mal, was testing a wormhole experiment and accidentally, ends up lost in space and within the realm of Rhain's world. He initially thinks she's an enemy spy and the sparks fly. What is interesting and what I hope becomes more clear in the future books of this series is the way Mal adapted to the world. It's an intricate and detailed aspect of the story that is really exciting because it made Mal such a strong character in the story. There's no weak human here, she starts and ends with kicking some alien bums so that she may save her fellow human traveler Poppy.

The story also sets up the future books in the series as Rhain's father is evil and trying to get his sons onto his side. Rhain has escaped this but there are still 2 brothers left. The next book will feature Brodin, his half brother and the emperor of another world. As I have already read the next book, I can say that the world continues to be fascinating and fun!

The story was only elevated by the narration by Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter. Both played their parts so well and while Stephen dexter has a softer voice than I would have attributed to Rhain, his range is so great that I enjoyed the reading.

loved it

The story was great and definitely a story to listen to several times it was so good. I'm only upset the next one isn't available. The FML was strong and I loved how the ML wanted to protect her but also respected it. The plot had me on the edge of my seat. Don't waste time get the story you won't regret it.

A Sci-Fi Romance

This is the first book in the Galactic Kings series, a Sci-Fi Romance. This is a great start to the series. Mallory is strong, reckless, sassy, and determined. Rhain is handsome and protective. Their story is intricate, action packed, suspenseful, and enthralling. The supporting characters are great and intriguing. The world building is interesting. Stephen Dexter and Vivienne Leheny did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it.

Great new start to a series!

When I first started reading and/or listening to Anna Hackett stories, I wasn’t a huge fan of science fiction. Granted, her books can be a blend of science-fiction, adventure, mystery, and romance. Nevertheless, these stories have some science fiction elements like space travel, characters from other planets, creatures that often want to kill the protagonists, and alien technology. It’s a nice blend of imagination, survival, danger, and love. Now I’m a huge fan!

In this story, Overlord Rhain Sarkany is the ruler of planet Zhalto. Years ago the Radiance (a major solar event) created a change in the DNA of the people of Zhalto. Now they can pull power from the charged particles in the atmosphere, and manipulate the power created by those particles. There are four inhabitable planets in their solar system, and Rhain’s two half-brothers rule two of the other planets (Damar and Taln). His father (King Zavir Sarkany) rules the fourth one (Sarkan), and the fifth planet is uninhabitable. The king wants all of his sons to rule by his side, but none of them want to bow to his wishes or be like him. They prefer peace while he prefers force and submission. He has sent enemies and alien creatures enhanced with biotechnology to each planet, and each ruler must fight to save their planet and people.

Mallory West is from Earth; she crash lands on Zhalto while testing some wormhole technology that accidentally goes awry. Her spacecraft breaks apart, and her best friend Poppy is in the part of the ship that lands elsewhere on the planet. She really wants to find Poppy, and takes it personally when she is held captive by Rhain, while he discerns whether or not she is a spy sent from his father. It doesn’t take him long to figure out that she is not a spy. He does realize that she is very loyal to her friend. Mallory does everything she can to find Poppy. Along the way, Rhain decides he likes her feistiness, her fighting ability, her loyalty, and her ability to tackle things head-on. She fights like a champ, and she’s not afraid to stand up for others.

Vivienne Leheny and Stephen Dexter bring this story to life! Stephen’s deep voice is perfect for portraying Overlord Rhain and the other male characters of planet Zhalto. And Vivienne’s no-nonsense narration of Mallory West is perfect for this character as well. She does a good job with the male voices (when needed) and any additional female characters that appear throughout the storyline! This narration is delightful to hear. It is the first story in a new group that is a spinoff from a series Ms. Hackett recently completed. The tension is tight throughout this story, and the pace is fast. Listeners should enjoy this adventure!

Another fantastic world building and character driven suspense from one of the best - Anna Hackett!

I love that she takes the sting female character to a place totally out of her element, but she never breaks down or gives up. This story shows such a waist range of emotions: suspense, great, intrigue, the ability to allow oneself to be happy when you are in love and how to adapt and change into a new role, while remaining independent. I can’t wait for Emperor!!

I listened to the sample and thought it sounded good. I can't listen to it. I've tried so hard. I just keep tuning it out, finding myself having to constantly rewind to figure out what the heck is going on.
