Summary
Patrick Danvers, the Viscount Westover, was known by another name among the people of society: Devil Danvers. No young lady dared to be seen in public with this man whose startling good looks were overshadowed by his scandalous escapades.
Caroline Ashley was a very respectable young lady, but with no one to protect her and no money to call her own. How could she resist Devil Danvers' offer to be the wife he needed to win a wager and claim a fortune that hung on his producing an heir?
And so the battle begins between the dazzling lord who has every means to make a young lady say yes to his every desire, and the young lady determined not to surrender her pride, no matter the cost.

Betrothal musical chairs
I quite enjoyed the story but found the narrator's die away voice irritating. It improved when the sound was increased to 1.10.

Leaves open questions
Would be more complete with an epilogue # years later... marriages pregnancies the will distribution., etc.

Ugh
Lots of repetition, not a lot of love building, frustrated with some characters, confusing character stories, no steaminess at all (a couple mild kisses). If you’re not going to give me steaminess than give me a truly magnificent love story. This book had neither. I’ll never listen to this author again. Narration was pretty good.

Struggled with this one ....
This is the first Anita Mills book I struggled with, after finishing her medieval series I thought she is great and can do no wrong. To be fair, the writing is still superb it’s the story and characters that I struggled with. Maybe it’s a curse of regency romance but there are too many eye rolling moments for me to enjoy the book.
I had no liking for ”strong and independent” heroine, who is highly inconsistent in her “strong moral views“ and acts like a lamb in her decision to marry an Earl, “Devil Danvers” is much more likeable and honourable character..
And the ending is “ludicrous”...

Ok but...
This book would be excellent for a "Spot a Georgette Heyer reference". The author has borrowed wording and even whole scenes from a couple of books and mixed them together. Its not a direct copy of any of them but I wouldn't be surprised to see it called out for plagiarism. Apart from that the book is ok but a bit too long imho.

I gave up
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I tried very hard to finish it, but finally gave up after 9 chapters. I cannot imagine enduring it for 4 more hours.
