Summary

It’s been years since anyone has seen Noble Vincent, the player that brought down World-Tree Online’s tyrannical moderator. Even with a lifetime of perceived experiences in the game, he still has centuries to go before the update finally ends and the people trapped in the game are freed. After taking a long vacation and traveling to many worlds, he realizes its time to get his team back together so they can try to reach the top of the World-Tree.

However, Vincent’s goal will eventually lead him to Styxis, a world consumed by a never-ending war. His path will bring him at odds with Noah, a former member of the Great Vanguard. Noah’s team climbed higher than any other before the angels crushed them, but like Vincent, he’s a man that obsessively chases his goals no matter the challenge.

Noah’s choices will lead him and many others down a path that will push the strongest players of the game to their limits. When Vincent gets caught in Styxis’s never-ending war, he too will have to decide how far he’s willing to go just to win.

Great audio book, weird error at one point

Chapter 35 had an error about a minute in where 2 sentences overlapped but this might have simply been an error in my download copy, otherwise a great book wonderfully narrated, am looking forward to listening to the next one.

If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love this.

I very almost didn't buy this book, given a number of poor reviews. However, I'm so glad I ignored them. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love this. Fantastic plot and ending. Can't wait for the third and final book!

Great second book

Loved every second of it. The only downside I had was that the ending felt very rushed.

Not as good as book 1

While the narration was excellent as always, I was disappointed by the story. It felt like a rehash of book 1's main plot-line with much the same kind of situation. One of the best parts of book 1 was the level grinding and spell creation which seemed to be just glossed over in this book. It got to a point that it took me over a week to listen to the last hour of the book because I was bored with it.

Hopefully book 3 is a lot better

Should have wrapped it up in the first book

Took hours for the plot to make its first showing. Introduced several new main characters that required constant timeline leap frogging back and forth that made it confusing and totally unnecessary. The MC's "invention" of negative energy spells turns out not to have been revolutionary afterall since pretty much everyone had them in this book decades before he even started playing the game. Again there's massive jumps in time with a 43 year training montage toward the end, all the while people are being tortured for no good reason other than a poor attempt to create a sense of urgency. I didn't care for the extraordinary length of time the story uses for some unfathomable reason. There simply wasn't a purpose for a second book other than to burn the remaining 200+ years for the patch to come out by rehashing the same plot from the first book and free everyone.

Soundbooth messing with the soundstage again

Soundbooth has started 'soundstaging' characters when more than one character is present in the 'scene'. This means that the regular narration is balanced center, but when one character 'talks' to someone else the majority of the volume for that dialogue comes from either the right or left speaker/headphone depending on where on the soundstage the editor places that person. Person A is usually center right, Person B center left, Person C far left.

For me, soundstaging an audiobook is fairly disorienting. Without visual cues that would put context to where in a scene the characters are a book relies on imagination. When imagination is circumvented by forced perception shift it's quite annoying. No matter where you imagine characters to be, the soundstaging forces them somewhere else (usually to the MCs immediate left).

I've reviewed recent Soundbooth releases before noting the soundstage problem and have chosen to avoid these books. In this case I didn't hear anything in the sample audio, or it was too subtle to notice. I bought it, later noticed it was staged, decided to finish it anyways.

I wish I hadn't.

You know when you rough draft an essay and it has notes in the margins and sections missing with notes to "add something here later". This release is the audio version of that rough draft. There's random dialogue mixed on top of other characters, later in the book there are sections just missing outright.

I haven't decided if I'll return it yet. I am mildly annoyed. GG sounbooth.

This book and narration was outstanding but I had like three spots where it was all blank then seem like it skipped over parts.

heap of audio dead spots

I kept thinking it was my device playing up but this audio has heaps of dead spots even some up to 30 seconds.
this book gets confusing a lot as it also seems like some random words and sentences randomly get put in when it doesn't relate to the actual chapter.
Besides all this the book was still very enjoyable as the story and character progression were on point!

As amazing as the first!

I’ve read many of E.A. Hoopers books and they’re all great but The World Tree is my favorite book series hands down and this is just another amazing reading of an amazing book you really feel like your going on a journey with some great characters not too childish and not too serious it is really a great listen

Great book, Great performance. BUT!

This was great, but there are audio issues. As others have said. Audio cuts off and then back later in the chapter. Maybe 10 time or more. There is a part or two where you hear two audio tracks at the same time. Needs to be checked and fixed.

Old Man Vincent

I love this book. It has a realistic approach to multiple ages of people who play games. As an older person who loves video games especially MMO, it is greatly appreciated. But, as you read/listen to the story, you will find that even old men make stupid mistakes. The MC is one who in the end made a stupid deal that cost many their lives but he did get a reprieve.

An absolutely amazing sequel!

I loved the addition of Noah and his wife Amelia to the story I could be wrong but it sucks that it doesn't appear that they'll be in the third book. I greatly enjoyed the imaginative power progression it fit very well both in the story and in the individual progression very well-thought-out if only there was a game out there that truly allowed you to do what was in this book.

The whole narration cast did an absolutely amazing job from start to finish!

epic!

Great story and narration!

Vince and the gang are back and the climb continues! After defeating Lucas they continue to level and strive for the top and their freedom. But a new enemy emerges, and new people find that the path to hell is paved with good intentions...

Soundbooth did a great job with the narration and really brought everything to life!

I loved the story and can't wait to find out what happens next!
