Father of LitRPG my foot.
What disappointed you about The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga?
The blurb declares the author the "father of litRPG", apparently this is a title he has self-declared with no basis whatsoever. Far from being the first American voice in the genre, his work is not revolutionary in any way.
The book is full of constant pop-culture references, dick jokes and other juvenile and very-American humour that make the main character sound less like a hero and more like any 17 year old boy on reddit.
What will your next listen be?
Something in the litRPG genre by a different author!
Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favourite?
The way Nick voiced the Prince was excellent, but Nick Podehl never disappoints. Shame he got such bad material to read.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga?
All the pop culture references and teenage jokes that make it read like a YA novel instead of epic fantasy. He's in a world where LITERALLY NO ONE understands the references, ugh.
Any additional comments?
Skip this guy and read an author who actually earns their praise instead of inventing it. Great authors don't have to yell about how great they are, their work speaks for itself.

Great summer read
After a quick purchase while on my way out of the country to the sun I wasn't expecting much. The combination of smart writing and an interesting plot idea has left me buying the next few books in the series.

I don't get the style of the "narrated RPG"
what this is, is an RPG game for someone who does not play games. the literary value of this is close to zero. and although there is a place for books that do not require any brain power whatsoever, I never thought that you can pay no attention to the content and yet know exactly what is going on.

Never would have downloaded if I'd listened to sample. Suitable for a younger audience probably.

DING, this book sucks
Play a video game instead, very difficult to get through maybe it would be easier to read? The narrator does a good job but constantly reading off stats and DING notifications becomes very frustrating also incredibly boring. The storyline is had potential but becomes very basic with little in depth story or any real emotions. Maybe I missed something but the character is awfully accepting of the loss of his reality and friends/ family, its bizarre. I have no idea how this book has such a a high rating.

Boring story with superb narration
I have bought this book, because of the great reviews. I can't recall a single moment when I was in doubt about the turns of the story. I think it was because there are no turns, or surprises. Go to X or Y location, understand the context, kill the bad guy, loot. Repeat over and over.
The narration is superb, but I do not recommend this book under any circumstances. Boring is an understatement.

"What does the fox say" - It says this book is bad
What would have made The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga better?
Stop with all the dead references, as soon as I heard the "what dos the fox say" reference it absolutely killed the book

it's ok.
The good: there are some good characters, and lots of funny moments, the world is decent enough.
The bad: it's slow, there's too much description of individual items, there's an annoying ding a lot, there's nothing about the real world once the main character leaves it.
Overall: it's enjoyable but lacks complexity.
Having now listened up to book 7, I’m very much enjoying the series. The world is pretty standard, the magic the same, but what really makes these good is the characters and friendships. Would recommend but be warned the books can be dark at times, sometimes unnecessarily so.

A bit cringy
The narrator was great, but the story is terrible. It felt like a 46 year old man trying to write a book that had, “hip” dialogue. Maybe it’s just not for me though. I see a lot of people liked the book, but I just don’t get it. I had to turn it off several times, because of the horribly unfunny and dated references.

Welcome to the Land!!!
Ok so if you have never listened to or read a litrpg your in for a treat!
Aleron Kong does an amazing job of world building, character development, funny real world reference "alot of the litrpg out is russian based and some of the references mean little to the English crowd". If you have ever played an mmo and thought man I want to live in this world than this book is for you! The Land is a vibrant world with amazing characters "Sion is my favorite"! Nick Podehl is the narrator and his performance is great, the sound effects are spot on.
I won't give you any spoilers but if your even remotely interested in the summary give this book a go and you will fall in love!

Laughter, Tears, Mystery and Anger
You know its hard to not love a book that brings up the emotions you never want to let out. This book was not only hilarious but it also gave you that rage for villains you hate. It tore at your heart at parts and then left you confused with the mystery's that bring you back wanting more of everything. I'd recommend this Saga to anyone, even those who arent much into LitRPG because they will never want to put it down once they have had a taste.

The BEST Audible Series Available!
You can stop reading reviews! Go listen to "The Land" now! I've listened to all 7 of the books "The Land" series has to offer at the time this review was written. That's 120 hours and 25 minutes of Nick Podehl narrating the words of Aleron Kong! Over 5 days straight of listening time and I want more! I never want it to end!
I am not an RPG guy. I've never before played an RPG board game. Don't let the RPG title deter you. Anyone will love this book because of the rich story telling, incredible characters, the world that Aleron Kong creates, and the masterful story telling! The incredible thing about these books is you start at square one with the main character, our hero Richter, and go on this grand adventure with him; growing and learning with him. Throughout the progression of these books it's impossible not to fall in love with the characters as you watch the world unfold around you. Aleron Kong's writing is relatable, funny, and emotional while being so descriptive that you will watch the world be painted before you. I'm always surprised by his hilarious use of crass and current humor intertwined with such a high level of writing.
The only thing better than Kong's story is Podehl's narration. I'm a television producer with a degree in theater, film, and television and I can honestly say Nick Podehl is a master storyteller. He should win all the awards! His narration is enthralling from start to finish. His characters are out of this world amazing! It never seems like someone doing voices, it just sounds like I'm listening to a myriad of different characters - like watching an animated series. Every character's voice is not only unique and perfectly suited for them, but even his speech patterns and intonations differ from character to character. Jim Henson himself would be impressed. And this is the very first audible book I've heard narrated by a male that can successfully do female characters just as well. I can listen for hours and continue being impressed every minute.
My one issue with the audible version of this book is that certain charts and figures can be daunting when listened to aloud, but sometimes you just have to let it wash past you as it's not imperative to the story. I would recommend this book 1 million percent. It is so worth listening to the audible version for Podehl's narration. Just be warned! Once you start you won't be able to stop.

if you like rpg or fantasy get ready for a nerdgasm
Great story and performance, this was my first litrpg book and I see many more in my future. I felt like I was playing world of Warcraft or Skyrim. The level up prompts get a little annoying but it’s also good to remember what the characters stats are before moving forward through the book. Definitely worth a ready to see if you like LitRPG. :)
can’t wait to dive into the next one.

This entire series is an absolute MUST read!!
The Land series is hand's down one of the best, most entertaining series I have ever read (or listened to) in my almost 40 years of reading for pleasure. I have read countless series over the years and have many that make my short-list of favorites. The Land is one of the most brilliantly written, entertaining, enjoyable series I have ever had the pleasure to read. Along with serious and suspenseful moments where you just know your favorite character has no chance to make it out of the mess he's in, there are countless laugh out loud moments. And for those listening on Audible, Nick Podehl brings Aleron's characters to life in a way you will never appreciate until you listen. Before The Land, there were only 2 series that I enjoyed reading a second time. The Land brings that total to 3!
This is anything BUT "just another" LitRPG series. Whether you are a fan of epic fantasy, D&D, LItRPG, suspense, etc., or just a fan of pure entertainment, you have got to give this series a try. The first book starts off fast and furious, and Aleron has maintained that pace through the entire series. Read this series and you will find out why Aleron earned the title of Father of American LitRPG!
If you have tried other LitRPG series and found them lacking, try this one to see how it is really supposed to be done.

Not What I Expected, but SO GOOD!!!
When people think of a novel they many times see the normal arc of intro, conflict, climax, and resolution. This book takes that concept and throws it to the wind! It builds upon it self with many different stories, all having there own arcs, all at once. These stories intertwine in a way that feels natural and fluid. Also if you are like me and love to see things grow from humble beginnings to something spectacular than you will absolutely love this book!
