Summary

It's Bridget Jones with vampires in this fresh and funny paranormal romance from debut author Juliet Lyons.

When Silver Harris kisses sexy Irish vampire Logan Byrne on New Year's Eve, she knows other humans just won't suffice. Convinced she'll never see him again, she joins the uber-popular vampire dating site, V-Date.com.

What Silver doesn't know is that the site is more dangerous than she could have ever imagined, and soon she's in over her head. When Logan returns, sparks fly and attraction sizzles, but they'll have to escape some very real demons if they have any chance of lasting forever.

Great Story

The story had a few of my favourite tropes and still managed to be original. Justine's narration was amazing! I could listen to her all day, every day. Sadly, by contrast Alan's accents were patchy and he didn't swap between characters as fluidly.

Makes me want more

I love how it is written with two different versions of what's happening. Then two different actors reading it. Really engaging.

A brilliant story!

It took me a little while to settle in to the accents given to the characters but this is an utterly brilliant and thoroughly original story. It’s fast paced, full of wonderful humour and brilliantly conceived. I highly recommend it.

I really liked this, saucy but light hearted

Great if you like your romance with a bit of bite, danger and tension, which I do. A wonderfuly different story, and I love that the characters are not your generic type also for romance or for this genre. The main characters in quite different to your usual overcome submissive characters and has much more attitude. Definitely recommend this, and will be checking out other books by the author.

Brilliantly Written!

Juliet Lyons is definitely an excellent writer; and her descriptive writing creates the imagery intended.

I like the concept of the story - I have always loved vampire stories. Justine Eyre and Alan Smyth did not just bring the main characters to life, but also added character to the overall story.

There wasn't much in the way of a plot as most of the book focused on the heated attraction and sexual exploits of Silver Harris - the leading lady and Logan Byrne - the leading man, As a result, I found most of the middle of the book quite boring. I did not like Silver, and I failed to see why Logan fell in love with her. She was a reckless and thoughtless person while he was a truly good man. However, I loved their banter and the humour in their words.

All in all, it was a well written book, and the ending picked up with excitement.

Good Story

This would have been a very good story if it wasn't eclipsed by so much sex which totally distracted from the story, I found I just had to skip chapters to avoid listening to even more of it. I'm sure teenage boys would love listening to all the sex scenes and they may gain some good ideas as a result.
The narrater was extremely good at covering all ages, genders, accents and even vampires.

Cliché with bad narration

Narration:

Alan Smyth made his scenes come to life with convincing Scottish, Irish and English accents. Plus he has the ability to convey emotion and richness to the characters.

Justine Eyre unfortunately spoiled the book. All her characters sound the same. She makes all the men sound like the same Eastern European chap. Logan is said to have an Irish lilt, which Justine cannot muster.

Story:

Cliché. We have heard this all a million times before and I couldn’t find the sharp Bridget Jones comedic creativity anywhere. The story is bland. An overdone troupe, which might have been bearable if the narration was better.

However, there are some vivid descriptions. For example, one can smell the desperation at the nightclub. So, the author has writing talent but needs to be more imaginative.

Cover design reaction: It’s eye-catching and a bit busy, but I like it. Narrator Alan Smyth’s voice matches the cover model well in my opinion, so that’s another bonus.

Dual format read – Yes or No?: YES! I own the Kindle e-book, but I read it 100% via audiobook. And fortunately, I had time during this read / listen to bookmark scenes and highlight funny, sexy and cool passages in my Kindle e-book copy.

Overall ★★★★☆

Performances – Justine Eyre ★★★★☆ As usual, I enjoyed her overall performance because she’s great with accents and makes consistently good acting choices. However, I wish she would STOP changing her voice so deeply to do male voices. They don’t work as well for me. I think she’s wasting her time trying to sound so obviously masculine.

Performances – Alan Smyth ★★★★★ OMG! I loved, loved, loved his voice! He was so good with accents, and his acting choices were all spot on. Honestly, I couldn’t help but to wish he’d narrated this dual POV novel solo because he was that impressive.

Story ★★★★☆ Juliet Lyons is a new-to-me author who delivered well on her cool premise for Silver and Logan’s unconventional paranormal love story. This debut novel had interesting main and supporting characters, great pacing, good sexual tension, occasional humor and a nicely dramatic climax with a very satisfying epilogue.

Coming up next...(eventually, I hope!):
I’m sold! I was definitely intrigued by the sadness we witnessed in vampire cop Vincent’s eyes at Logan’s BBQ birthday party in the epilogue. So, I’ll be sure to read the audiobook format of Vincent’s story in Romancing the Undead if the AUDIOBOOK FORMAT is ever released.

Eh

Started strong but sizzled out and became boring.
I am all for books that reference other books but to model the book half way through ruins it for me.

Great story!

I truly, completely, wholey enjoyed this story.

I like this version of the classic vampire. They are still immortal, but they don't have to deal with the same ole weaknesses. Garlic and holy water are not harmful to them and, while sun won't kill them, sun does weaken their abilities. They also don't have to have blood to survive in this one. It's more a pleasurable thing than a necessity.

Another interesting fact is the ancients. It's an interesting twist that all vampires come from ancients. Except that Ancients are not like the other vampires. They are more like demons that look like humans. Ancients are also near impossible to kill. I won't spoil anything else about them, but I'm very excited to read then next book.

The characters in this story were pretty interesting. I like Logan. Irish accent... enough said. No, really, he's a cool character. He's feisty and playful, sensual and romantic... even when the romance freaks his girl out. Silver, cool name, is also a very feisty characters. Though, she has a serious tendency to throw safety out the window when he temper gets the better of her. I especially like her first meeting with Ronin.

The narrators, Justine Eyre and Alan Smyth, did a really good job bringing this story to life. Though, I will admit that I preferred her version of the girl and his version of the boy. I didn't like when they acted out parts for characters of the opposite sex. Due to the fact that the voices kept changing, it was a bit complicated in the beginning of the book to keep the characters straight, who was talking and when, every time they switched. Eventually, the story drew me in enough to make it easier, though.

All-in-all, this was a very entertaining read and I look forward to seeing what happens in future stories.

Wonderful strong women as lead

Silver is very sassy and opinionated, I love that in my romance novels. Also the smut scenes are vivid and detailed, so don’t be like me and get hit by a sex scene mid run 😂

Steamy with an excellent story

Ms. Lyons has an interesting take on vampires and has written delicious story. Of course Alan could read the dictionary and make it sound sexy, but the chemistry between the characters was fantastic, I adore the snarky wit of Silver and the little twist at the end caught me entirely by surprise. I am disappointed there are not more audio books from this author.

Zero stars

I couldn't finish the book.....made it 20 mins before I had to stop it. The female narrator completely ruined the Irish accent for me, it was soooo bad. and that was the main reason for me choosing this book
