Summary

Gather round close, for I have a secret to tell.

Late at night, while everyone is sleeping, dreaming of white knights and fairytales. I'm making friends with the monsters.

They call to me, like finds like, right? My biggest secret, I'm the scariest monster I know.

I think I'm the bad guy.

loved it! dual narration is a real treat

I really loved the use of both male & female narrators. i sometimes get frustrated when a male narrator does a female voice because i often think it makes them sound pathetic, when in my head they are kick ass! equally when female narrators try and do alpha male...

Amazing

This book was recommended to me by audible and I wasn’t sure about it. But it turned out to be amazing. Love the fact that all the things people are scared of are her friends and the fact that she’s different as well but isn’t sure what. The 3 men that suddenly come into her life and turn it upside down and the dangers that aren’t quite known it’s an amazing series that you should definitely read.

Amazing story!

I've read the book and the audio version really brings it to life with the amazing narrators.
A story full of intrigue and mystery, as well as all the feels and a healthy amount of steam.

enjoyed the first book

I enjoyed the reading of this book , the voices fit well. it's a shame about the second book feeling rushed and the neglected story line.

Awesome story!

I love the way this book was written, and the voice of Vanessa Moyen never disappoints. Its a steamy book filled with an interesting take on urban horror creatures and the concept of a Sin eater. Loved the book so much, I had to get the audio narration. I would recommend it to anyone who likes reverse harem books that actually have a story to tell.

Love this book!

When this book came out I read it right away and loved it. So much so, I did a reread within a month, which is unusual for me since my TBR pile is a mile high.

Now that the audiobook is out, I got that right away too even though I am in the middle of a reread of another series. I LOVE that there are dual narrators and that the man is reading all of the male parts. They did a fantastic job bringing the story to life and I can't wait until the next installment.

I 1000% recommend this book, you won't regret it!

ehhh I mean...eh

I struggled with this one. I really enjoyed the narration of the back and forth but it never went anywhere. i would almost skip thru chapters bc each were the same thing. I finished the book and thought..ummm thats it...i had higher expectations for sure. my only word for the book is "eh" its ok.

Loved this book!

Talk about a breath of fresh air. A female lead who is fun and forward moving. The "monsters" are fabulous while her potential mates are awesome. This book will revive your faith in worthwile female leads. Beware...if tons of sexy time is not your thing this book is not for you. Kind of a cliff hanger...so hoping for the next book very soon.

Terrific story

This was an original story. You know how sometimes books feel like there is a formula and just the details were changed? This one didn’t feel like that. I liked that several of the predictions I made early on were incorrect, it kept me engaged and continuing to guess.

The narration was very good, both Lucas Webley and Vanessa Moyen. You could distinguish between the different characters by both voice and personality of not just the main characters but secondary ones as well.

Although there was sex, it wasn’t excessive and didn’t overtake the story.

I would recommend this book, it’s worth the money or credit. Although it didn’t end on a cliffhanger, you know that there will be a continuation to resolve issues. I’m looking forward to it and won’t hesitate to purchase it.

Cute story with a touch of sexiness

The story is about charmed ones. The h is a sin eater, she has friends such as a brownie, a creepy bony guy, a shifter, a berserker, and the Grim Reaper.
Although she doesn't have sex with 3 males at once, they end up as her mates. The conflict of the story is with a coven of witches. The narration was great. It kept things interesting when there wasn't much else going on.

DNF

Sigh. DNF. I liked the general story idea. Ruined for me by the stupid FMC. Common RH trope - give the girl beauty and super powers to pretend she’s “strong.” Meanwhile she is emotionally and intellectually weak and doesn’t treat others very well because she is rife with abandonment & mommy/daddy issues. She even knows she is full of shit the majority of time but is such a pathetic person she doesn’t care to do anything about it - other than use the guys and her “friends” as she sees fit. Or, she whines about how lonely she is but doesn’t really do anything to change it. She’s hot, she’s cold, she manipulates, she’s selfish, and she’s arrogant. What does she actually do? She sits alone in a house all day and wait for her “friends” to come and entertain her? What exactly am I supposed to like about her? That she finds hot guys attractive? That she killed someone once and to try and not do it again puts herself in seclusion and numbs her senses so she doesn’t do it again? That she has no problem fucking a random dude/dudette when she’s horny? She’s supposed to be 30 for goodness sake. In the beginning I hoped the tide would turn but I’m a little over half way through and she seems to be getting worse.

I also wasn’t a fan of the FMC narrator. The whisper talking is really annoying. There were moments when she’d talk sort of normal and I was like, ahhh... good - but then she’d start whisper talking again and all I could picture was some mother reading a bedtime story in quiet whispers to one kid while another kid is asleep across the room. Given the context of the story, not a great fit.

All that said, I did really like how the male narrator was integrated in to the story whenever the guys spoke instead of switching narration by chapter. And I liked the side characters.

Narrator's SUCKED...and not in a GOOD way.

This furthers my stance that good narration can bring a boring story to life. Alternately, and in the case of Friends w/Monsters, poor narration can sink an amazing story into the labyrinths of Hades.

This dual narration thing didn't work here. The actors were robotic. The male - Lucas Webley - didn't invest in the story at all, basically rattling off his pieces like it's a grocery list. The female - Vanessa Moyen -, too, simply "read". Her forced cat purr thing at the end of each word was cute at first, then it just became cheesy and monotonous. However, HER various characters had their own voices, at least.

Basically, it was painfully like listening to the middle school drama club recite a play for extra credit.

Not invested in these characters enough to grab book 2. It's a really good story. At least I think it would be been. But I'm not reviewing the book version. I'm reviewing the Audible. The only development that grabbed my attention was an encounter from her past near the end, and even that was slated over.

so much better than expected

I really wasn't sure if I would like the story at all, but I did! the narration performance was perfect, much better than any I've ever heard before.
