About this listen
There was never any question that I would be there for him.
I've known him since we were kids. We were best friends, sharing everything - until I made a mistake and got a girl pregnant. Pretty soon, I was a single dad while I was still a kid myself. Our friendship suffered. He joined the military. And I thought I'd never get another chance to let him know what he really means to me.
Now he's back, reeling from the loss of his newborn baby's father, and he needs a place to stay while he settles back into parenthood and small town living. I won't pressure him. I won't rush him. And if he's still not interested, I'll let him go. But I'll be damned if I won't hold on to this second chance with the best friend I thought I’d lost long ago.
Welcome to Blackwater, Montana - a small town with a big personality, where shifters and humans coexist. Claimed By The Soldier is a dual point of view shifter audiobook with mpreg, an unexpected inheritance, and a guaranteed happy ending. The fifth in this series, this audiobook can also be enjoyed as a standalone.

The narration didn’t really appeal to me. The characters all seemed to me to sound like hicks and the speed seemed really slow. Just a personal preference. I liked it better when I read it myself. I suggest you listen to the sample and decide for yourself.

So sweet!

Zayne left Pax behind and both men suffered because of it.
Now they're back in each other's orbit as single father's and Zayne feels woefully unprepared.
Pax takes them in and is honestly only trying to be a friend but those pesky unresolved feelings kerp getting in the way.
Absolutely beautiful seeing these men be so brave and vulnerable with one another and let go of all that extraneous baggage they've carried around for years.
Anton Rush did a pretty decent job of bringing these characters to life.

Now, onto my thoughts about the story!
Claimed by the Soldier is a sweet story about old friends becoming lovers. Pax Quintero and Zayne Bridges were close childhood friends who shared everything with each other except for their mutual attraction. When they were fifteen, Pax accidentally knocked up a girl he was seeing which resulted in his daughter, Mia. The friendship between the two boys suffered after that. Zayne struggled a lot knowing that his friend was straight and moving forward with his life as a father. So, when he turned eighteen, Zayne left Blackwater to join the military and escape the unrequited love he harbored for Pax.
Flash forward ten years later and Zayne’s back in Blackwater with his one-month-old daughter, Hope. Hope’s Alpha dad, and Zayne’s friend, died in combat before Hope was even born. So, Zayne’s just trying to get his feet beneath him after leaving the military and becoming a single parent. His wolf insisted he come back home to find himself again. Only, as soon as he gets there, his path crosses with Pax’s, and the two men reach out to find that old friendship. The one thing they didn’t expect to find was the simmering love still thrumming through them from days long gone.
This book was so sweet! Pax was more than willing to reach out and help his old friend, despite how things went when Zayne left Blackwater. There were no bad feelings linger because Zayne left, just a willingness to look past that and move forward as friends. I loved seeing how things progressed between the MCs. It was obvious both of them were nose over tail for each other even after all those years apart. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as obvious for them to see right away.
The cast of characters was great. Both Zayne and Pax are loveable characters unique in their ways. They come from different backgrounds and family lives, but they grew up being very similar. I loved that Pax was raising Mia to know the value of a dollar. She wants a car, but Pax says the only way he’ll help her get one is if she puts up half of the downpayment. I thought that was wonderful! I also really liked Pax’s parents. They accept Zayne and Hope into the family without a second thought. I even really liked Hank’s parents although they come across as the bad guys at first.
This was such a wonderful little read. As I mentioned above, if the narrator was different I would have liked this book even more. The story was sweet. There was friendship, love, laughter, worries, and a happy ever after. I’d recommend this audiobook if you’re a fan of Liam Kingsley’s work. I’d just advise you to check the sample of the book to see if the narrator is okay for you. If you don’t mind the narrator and you like the author, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Claimed by the Soldier.
