Summary
When ex-Navy SEAL Nick Foley travels to China to find purpose and escape the demons of his past, he instead stumbles into a conspiracy his Special Forces training never prepared him for. A mysterious and deadly outbreak ravages a remote area of western China, and Nick finds himself the lead suspect in a bioterrorism investigation being conducted by China's elite Snow Leopard counter-terrorism unit.
To clear his name and avoid prosecution, he must team up with beautiful Chinese CDC microbiologist Dr. Dazhong "Dash" Chen to find who is really behind the attack. As their investigation proceeds, their budding friendship is tested by nationalistic loyalties and suspicion.
In a race against time, Nick and Dash must risk everything to stop a mad man before he unleashes the world's next super-weapon in Beijing.

Like nails down a blackboard
The ignorance of Americans know no bounds.
There is no language called Chinese.
So every time I heard it being used, which seemed like every few minutes, it was like nails down a blackboard & totally ruined listening to this audiobook.
Lift up your heads Americans, and look beyond your own front door and learn!!!

Superb Story with Brilliant Narration
Gripping entertainment with only one drawback, it's so good you'll resist having to set it aside for anything else, including sleep!

Great book!
What a great book, I wouldn’t have picked it up if it wasn’t in the included section but I would have missed out!
The story, characters and thrills were brilliant. The setting of China was certainly a change from the usual locations.
I’m going to look out for the next by Alex Ryan!

Written in 2016!
Popped up on my suggestion box.
Very glad I downloaded the beginning of Nick Foleys adventures.
Pertinent too, given recent events in China.

Well read. Flowed well and easy on the ear
It was nice to have a reader staying calm throughout. Bored withe the formulaic violence and language. Read then back to from and pity there seem no more. Suits me well.Good production.

Entertaining
Enjoyable and a good narrator. Preferred it to the second book, which was good but felt a bit drawn out and could have been 2 hours shorter!

Enjoyable
An original plot, with some thrilling twists and turns.
A little gruesome in parts, but a solid debut nonetheless.

When in China, being treated like a terrorist, hey buddy can I use your phone?
What would you do? One min. You are digging a ditch by hand in remote China, a worker you befriended falls out looking to be the victim of a grotesque death like Ebola... So you rush him to medical aid.
In a previous time you were the medic for a Navy Seal team, and you make some observations about your coworker.
Now you find your self detained and quarantined without your clothes, passport, phone. And people are asking you questions and treating you like a terrorist.
And there you have chapter 1. Are you tired yet?
So there you have it that's how the book begins, and it maintains a very god pace all the way to the end.
The book includes, humor, flirtatious behavior, blood, guts, and plenty of gore.
The book also contains many memories the main characters had while they grew up, and these memories influence their actions today
I know I really enjoyed this story, the reader, and what I hope to be a very good series of books

Suspense thriller or contempory science fiction?
Beijing Red kept me interested if barely so. The Nick Foley (and Dash) series has potential, but it was not fully realized in this novel. Oh, its good novel but it could be better.
The novel is set in western China where ex-Navy Seal Nick Foley is working for an NGO that is seeking to help improve the lives poor Uyghurs. An outbreak of a 100% fatal "disease" occurs and is likely a terrorist act. The actual nature of the "disease" is what leads me to classify the novel as contemporary science fiction.
There is lots of action and suspense in Beijing Red. Actor McLeod Andrews does a fine job of narration.

Great Thriller, Exciting and Intelligent Story!
Any additional comments?
If you are looking for a book that has intelligent writing, a fascinating premise, characters that you can relate to and a true page turner, you have come to the right place!
Alex Ryan, the author, is actually Brian Andrews and Jeffery Wilson who write the Tier One books (check out my reviews.).
Beijing Red is the story of a brilliant scientist gone mad and the people/agencies trying to stop him. There is action/adventure, politics, intrigue and characters that you really care about. The writing is first rate and the science is accurate and believable. It is so cool to listen to a book that has action/adventure and yet is science (sometimes scary science!). Well done!!!
MacLeod Andrews is absolutely first rate as the narrator. He is able to do the accents justice and each character has a different "voice". He is fabulous to listen to and adds the right blend of humor and drama for each character.
Please, please, please do yourself a favor and either read or listen to this book and the next one in the series, Hong Kong Black.

The Bad Dragon Is Awake
Got this Pen name story from Tier One AKA authors Jeffrey Wilson and Brian Andrews on the $4.95 sale due to narrator MacLeod Andrews who is outstanding in this tale. His Chinese pronunciations and accents for all including females are so great. See him in Robert Crais Suspect, not to be missed.
The authors have great credentials so they can pull from their experiences but this tale was just not for me. Not a fan of China or Russian settings, as both countries treat their citizens so poorly, and I do not care to listen to it in my entertainment. The Surgeon part of the duo team needs to tame it down a bit for me, or I needed to have a stronger stomach!
Good beginning to a series. Creatively done. I do use the 1.25x speed to match the authors intentions.

Feels like a new genre
Mixing high tech medical science with a spy and intrigue theme makes for a fresh story that kept me interested to listen closely all the way to the end.

I could not stop listening
What made the experience of listening to Beijing Red the most enjoyable?
The story keeps moving and keeps you engaged the entire time. I will not go into the story line as the synopsis does that. I will tell you that the characters and relationships between the characters are well developed and interesting. You can tell that Andrews and Wilson did their homework. The science and medical aspects are fascinating and make you think about where we are headed in the future.
What did you like best about this story?
The story kept me engaged the entire time. I usually get bored and stall while listening to audio books, not with this book. I found myself staying up late at night to listen to Beijing Red and driving around the block to get to listen longer. I plan to listen to it a second time to pick up on the nuances that I may have missed.
What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?
MacLeod's voices were spot on. For the male and female characters his voice made it easy to envision the different genders. The accents were realistic, MacLeod is unbelievable. He has a voice that is very pleasant to listen to and does not distract from the story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
My movie tag line would be "The best movie of 2017! You will be transported to Beijing and transfixed the entire movie."
Any additional comments?
I would love to see additional books in the Nick Foley series. For now, I can't wait to listen to Tier One by Andrews and Wilson.

The Next Step- Bioterrorism ?
Up to date , thought it was written yesterday. Nick looking to get away for a while and help others with a natural resource project, stumbles on a experiment, using people far from the populous (Muslims) to test an interesting biological killer. No more be said- you will be hooked .

Surprisingly good book.
I bought this book with no idea of what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. An author that can not only write a good book, but do a top notch job of reading it too! In fact this is a very good example of the kind of reading/narration I prefer. No bells, whistles, roars, screams. Just proper phrasing and inflection! Good listen.

Well written and exciting
If you could sum up Beijing Red in three words, what would they be?
Well written, exciting.
What other book might you compare Beijing Red to and why?
Vince Flynn
Any additional comments?
I really like this book. The plot and characters are well developed. The scenario is realist and plays out well. If you like Vince Flynn type book, this is one of the very few that matches or beats the Vince Flynn series.
