Very good
I liked it all. Good follow up to the previous novels, but like the others, it will stand alone. A good mystery story and thriller.

great story, wrong narrator
After so many books read by the same narrator it was difficult to recognise the characters. I missed the whole québécoise of it.

Great story.
I can't fault this story or the narration. The story was engrossing and I enjoyed the new narrator.
I think this is the best of the Inspector Gamache books, I've enjoyed them all however feel that the 'layers' of stories contained in this book is the most enjoyable.

Biased for previous narrator
Adam Sims did such a stellar job inhabiting the characters and bringing them alive from my first encounter with the series that I'm very biased. I couldn't enjoy this book as much as the previous ones and was quite disappointed with the performance. Over 12 volumes Adam's narration became how I see and know these people and places, so I can't be fair on the experience the new narrator provides. Who I'm sure, is excellent in his own right.

Another great story
These books revolve around Canadian characters in a beautiful Quebec setting. Shame this new book narrated with an English, rather than North American accent. Doesn't capture some of the characters very well. Bring back Adam Simms!

Since when was the solution to a mystery such a delicate and convincing delight?
Each Inspector Gamache novel is better than the last. I am cannot remember the last time that reading a series of books gave me such pleasure. There’s a price to pay in reading the next one because I simply don’t want to reach the end of the series.
Three Pines is a place where the balance of life is measured in the history of its residents. It’s a haven but not for those too frightened to live. The wisdom of Gamache is the result of a life lived full to the brim with joy and pain. It’s so satisfying that it becomes more than a humble novel.

Change of narrator!
I love these books, am reading them one after the other, but to get to book 12 with the same characters to find they’ve changed their voices! It was a shock. Adam Sims is an excellent storyteller, with many voices and accents. RIchard Bathurst is good but took some getting used to...
I noticed Lorelei King produced it - also and excellent narrator- perhaps that’s why they changed. Otherwise they stories are great, interesting, philosophical, funny, thrilling and moving. Great characters I really care what happens to them. Louise Penny - great job!

Good story but not as good as previous ones.
I have read all the inspector Gamache novels and this is good but my least favorite as doesn't include the villagers as much as all others.
