About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of You Were Gone by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen, Rachel Bavidge and Tom Burke.

Three days after Christmas, a woman walks into a police station. She has no phone and no ID, just a piece of paper with the name of investigator David Raker on it. She tells officers that Raker is her husband.

SHE SAYS SHE'S MY WIFE.

When he turns up at the station, Raker is stunned. The woman looks exactly like his wife. She knows all about their marriage, their history, even private conversations the two of them had. There's just one problem: Raker's wife has been dead for eight years.

MY WIFE DIED . . . DIDN'T SHE?

The woman tells the police that Raker had a breakdown. A respected doctor backs up her account. Items are missing that prove Raker's side of the story - and, worst of all, he soon becomes the prime suspect in a disappearance.

SHE'S EITHER A LIAR - OR I AM.

Could Raker have imagined their whole marriage? Is he delusional? Is this really the woman he loved and grieved for? Hunted by the police, Raker will have to find out the truth before it costs him everything - his memories, his sanity, his life . . .

A real page turner. What you would expect from a Reacher tale; gripping and full of twists.

This was an unusual story and a good thriller with twists and unexpected turns. The narrator was convincing.

Maybe the best Raker yet. I couldn’t stop listening -while drinking , housework , shopping , dog walking etc . The last but had me in floods of tears. Difficult to believe it was written by a man! Congratulations to all involved in the Audible version . These books are made to be listened to. Only one left- get writing Tim!

Mind blowing

I've got all the Raker books, and even tho' some are far fetched, they are still enjoyable. Thought this one would never end...
It did, and I just managed to bear with it, but oh, the unrelenting misery of it was thoroughly bleak. The beginning was so far from how I imagine an intelligent man would react to police accusations, I struggled with the first couple of hours. I've given it 3 stars, which is really more than it deserves.
Hoping the next book is an improvement.

Depressing nonsense

I was instantly engaged, Joe coen tells the storey with brilliance, every chapter is great.

The best one yet

I thought it was chilling. The ending didn’t really scan for me though. Real psychological thriller

Blew my mind. Well written

A really engaging story with so many twists and turns. It keeps you guessing all the way through and the ending is very good, tying up the loose ends in a nice little bow.

The narrator had a lovely voice which was easy to listen to with no annoying ticks that sometimes you get with other narrators.

Keeps You Guessing

I found it hard to read at first. I had got so involved with the characters that I did not want to believe that as a reader I had been duped in believing David's wife was dead. But as the story unravelled the twist and turns were thrilling and I found the book throughly enjoyable .

Different

Was somewhat doubtful about this and probably would not have bought it had it not been reduced! Was very pleasantly surprised, unusual plot, getting rarer these days, that makes it difficult to switch off and get on with life. Performance very good too so a really enjoyable experience.

Unusual and gripping
