About this listen
When half-wolf shifter Frankie Newman receives an e-mail from a family member she didn’t know existed, a secret is revealed: as a child, Frankie witnessed her father killing her mother...and then himself. Frankie was torn from her pack by her mother’s human relatives, and the trauma was erased from her memory. Realizing that she’s been lied to her entire life, she’s never felt more alone. Until she catches the scent of an old friend - warmly familiar and intoxicating.
Trick Hardy, enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, can sense the rush of mutual attraction when he sees Frankie again. He knows immediately that she’s his true mate. But he also knows that, given her fragile state, he needs to tread with care - no matter how fierce his surging desires.
As aroused as Frankie is by Trick’s darkly dominant air and simmering desire, her priority right now is her past - not her future, no matter how tempting. But as more secrets emerge and Frankie’s life is threatened, Trick must do everything he can to keep her close and safe. After all, it’s their destiny.

Good book - but getting a bit formulaic
Enjoyed this, but the series is getting a bit repetitive and formulaic so I feel like I’ve listened to the book before (even down to one of the characters having some quirky personality trait that becomes a side joke)

A fan of Suzanne Wright and Jill Redfield.
I loved this story. Suzanne gives you good combination of romance a little mystery. I love her books and Jill Redfield is good at bringing them to life.

Good book
I liked that this time Suzanne introduced a bisexual shifter to the main story. When we had Marcus' story there wasn't much mention of it. This time it plays an integral part of the story.
But I think it was a missed opportunity to have a different dynamic in the bedroom (i had hoped there would have been some pegging, what a shame that it was all the same as other books in the series).
edit: after a relisten I lowered the rating as this was too much like all the other books in the series. The perfect opportunity to have a treble or another type of relationship that deviates from the same formula... too disappointed to keep the same rating.

An amazing sexy, supernatural suspense.
Ok, full disclosure, I am a huge fan of Suzanne Wrights the Phoenix Pack series and it’s companion series The Mercury Pack. I had an idea of what to expect and those expectations were incredibly high!
Finally it’s time for Tricks story, and what a story it is. As with this whole series (which can be read individually but works best and it at it’s most enjoyable when read in the correct order.
Phoenix pack member Lydia has made contact with her niece Frankie ,who was raised by her human mothers parents after the death of both her parents. The only witness was a very small Frankie in the murder/ suicide of her parents and she has no memory of the horrific incident. When Frankie replies to Lydia’s message it is obvious that she has absolutely no clue about her paternal biological family (In fact her grandparents had lied to her since her parents died.) Lydia’s mother is dying after the recent loss of her mate and it is her wish to see her granddaughter one more time.
Frankie agrees to meet Lydia (accompanied by some of the Phoenix pack) to discuss the situation. As soon as Trick sees Frankie her is completely certain that he is face to face with his true mate!
While this story is growing there is also a problem from another pack, (who have been put together with a selection of violent loners and defeated packs who are threatened with death if they don’t comply) they want war with the humans and attempt to convince Trey that it is in his best interests to join their cause. Trey is not interested in war. Despite being known as a complete psycho, Trey’s aim in life is to support his loved ones, (Mate, cubs and pack) and protect their home from intrusion.
I don’t want to give more details because it would be easy to accidentally give a spoiler however I will say that this is worth every single star that I have awarded it.
I have seen prior criticism (on other books in the series) that all of the books follow a formula, and to some extent I agree that is true. However the similarities are about the very nature of shifter’s and their natural lifestyles. There is always a strong other story-line accompanying those similarities.
Jill Redfield has narrated all of the Phoenix and Mercury pack series. That is a lot of voices to master and a huge consistency challenge. Jill Redfield get’s it spot on every single time and the amount of actual acting that she brings to this story takes it to another level. Passion, intensity, fear, determination, every single emotion is there and maintained throughout.
These two really are an outstanding team.
