Summary

Book 8 in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Infilitrating enemy-held Gereon, Gaunt's Ghosts must deal with daemonic killers, reluctant allies and the taint of Chaos itself. Their mission: to find and stop a traitor general.

Listen to it because:

Gaunt's Ghosts, as a handful of troopers - including Gaunt himself - embark on a deadly mission into the heart of enemy space...a mission that Gaunt has personal reasons for wanting to finish. It's a deadly journey into the darkness of Chaos that will change the Tanith forever.

The story:

An Imperial general has defected to the enemy, and the secrets he carries could spell the end of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and a small team from the Tanith First must infiltrate an enemy-held world and gain the trust of the local underground, all the while trying desperately to avoid the ever-present taint of Chaos. Their mission: to stop the traitor general from revealing his secrets - by any means necessary.

Written by Dan Abnett. Narrated by Toby Longworth.

Another absolute cracker from Dan Abnett

What more is there to say? Toby Longworth once again smashes the narration like the legend he is. I’m bracing myself for the book he isn’t narrating. I fear anyone else won’t do as good a job as Toby.

I love Dans writing. He makes sci fi warfighting relatable to anyone who has seen epics like Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down; gritty, terrifying and grim, where any lesser author could have made it terribly cheesy.

I’m off to download the next novel in this series. That should tell you all you need to know.

fantastic book

I loved this book! After sabbat martyr I thought the series may have peaked but I was wrong. Abnett I'd a genius and Toby Longworths narration was fantastic.

such an enjoyable story

probably one of Abnett's best ghosts books. and I was sceptical of it not being read by James McPherson but Toby Longworth came through with the goods!

Another great story from Dan Annette

Having read every book about 3 times each I thought it’d be good to listen. It’s been great so far and this is one of my favourites. Toby Longworths narration is spot on. A great listen

Just a bit to much surviving

As the other books of the series, great!

Just a tad too much plot armour. In previous books it was easy to suspend disbelief, in how far that even is possible for the 40k-verse. Here not so much, as characters pretty much became super human like Astartes. But still very enjoyable and Mr. Longworths voice is as pleasant to listen to as 40k is grimdark.

Please complete the series with Toby Longworth!

This is my most re-listened to series on audible. The original material is brilliant and Toby's performances really bring everything together. Please keep them coming and please rerecord and complete the set with Toby as narrator!
