Summary

A short novella based on the beloved characters from Alice Oseman’s acclaimed debut novel Solitaire and graphic novel series Heartstopper – now a major Netflix series. From the author of the 2021 YA Book Prize winning Loveless.

The festive season isn't always happy for Tori Spring and her brother Charlie. And this year's going to be harder than most.

I used to think that difficult was better than boring, but I know better now…

I’m not going to think about the past few months, about Charlie and me, and all of the sad. I’m going to block it all out Just for today.

"Happy Christmas, " I say.

Perfect besides the voice for Tori.

Tori’s reader talked really fast and was difficult to make sense of to me. I feel like the character didn’t match the voice either however I appreciate the fact the voice actors maintain continuity in that Charlie and Tori keep the same voices as Solitaire and Nick and Charlie respectively.

Great story, but …

This is a lovely short story, and the narrator playing Charlie is excellent. Unfortunately, the narrator reading Tori has a really dull inflection .. surely a better young woman could have been found for this?! Even worse is that the seven year old brother Oliver is played by a woman, trying to be a seven year old boy, which really sounds ridiculous.

Same day, 3 different points of viewe

Short and sweet. Enjoyed getting the same event from 3 different points of view. Glad they've kept the same narrators from the other titles. Initially I wasn't keen on some of the narrators but they've grown on me.

Gem for Heartstopper Fans

Fans of Oseman’s graphic novels and Netflix series will enjoy this day in the life of Charlie, Tory, Nick and Oliver. Insights into their extended families and Charlie’s recovery process after a mental diagnosis. Lots of insight in this short novella. Excellent voice actors.

omg

read this. after reading nick and charlie and heartstopper, I was hesitant to listen to this. I do not regret it. It gives more of an inside look to the spring house. I love how all the spring children have their own chapter, even oliver. It gives many different perspectives. 11/10

Relatable tense family Christmas, Oseman style

Dont let the short length fool you, this little novella packs a punch.

This is the story of Nick and Charlie's first Christmas together. It is well worth your time if you want to get to know their world a little better. You get a lot more info about their extended families and sibling relationships. You learn more about how their relationship is doing after the events in October and Charlie's brief absence. You get a little more insight on Charlie's emotionally closed off mom and the Spring family dynamics in general. Tense, but sweet.

Sweet simple story of sibling love

Sweet, simple and lovingly crafted story of sibling love and support in facing challenges of holiday stress while coping with a teen eating disorder. Adds more depth to #Heartstopper characters in Charlie and Nick's families, bouncing narrative perspective from Tori, to Charlie, to younger brother Oliver, with excellent audiobook voicing for each.

Ed Effecting Those Around - Minor TW

I really liked this story because it gave me the reader more of an idea of how these characters interacted this winter. I also love the fact that it not only shows the struggles/recovery of someone with an ed and how it can also affect the people around them. I'm glad that this book opened up with Tori because I feel like we don't really get much of her anymore so it's great that we got to see her perspective of this entire situation. Finally I'm also glad that this book shared what it was like for Oliver, Tori and Charlie's little brother, to go through Christmas not really knowing much about what was going on with Charlie and again how that effected him being that he also is very young. :) Love Alice so rating her 5/5 on everything might just be my opinion but I still stand by it.
