Summary
Lola has every reason to be interested in who Paddy de Courcy is marrying - because although she's his girlfriend, she definitely isn't the bride. Heartbroken, she flees the city for a cottage by the sea. But will her retreat prove as idyllic as she hopes?
Not if journalist Grace has anything to do with it. Grace knew Paddy a long time ago. But why can't she forget him? Grace's sister, Marnie, might have the answer but she also has issues with the past. Her family is wonderful but they can't take away memories of her first love: a certain Paddy de Courcy. What will it take for Marnie to be able to move on?
And what of the future Mrs de Courcy? Alicia is determined to be the perfect politician's wife. But does she know the real Paddy de Courcy?
Four very different women. One awfully charming man. And the dark secret that binds them all....

Irritating to listen to I’m 2 chapters in and done
Probably just not my cup of tea or caught me on a bad day, but I can’t listen any more, the story is repetitive, and so lame, the style of writing ; a kind of clipped shorthand doesn’t work with narration for me.
I’ll be returning it for a refund

I was not amused.
Oh dear this really didn't suit me at all. What a waste of money. Bits of it were interesting - but they were few and far between. I didn't like the diary style of writing, or at least not one that needed an entry every few minutes. The Marnie story was just plain boring. Perhaps I would have enjoyed an abridged version more, but I usually enjoy long books, and normally love Marian Keyes work which I find amusing and upbeat in the main. Apart from the diary, it was hard to see where Paddy fitted in. Altogether a depressing book. Not my sort of thing sadly.

Don't want to give this feedback
I love Marian Keyes, I identify with her on a personal level and also enjoy her other books. However I found this one different. There was a long fluted build up with lots of detail. When it got to the point it was a subtle exposè. Then the conclusion was over in one chapter.

This Charming Man
This is a brilliant book . Marian Keyes has incredible talent , her character descriptions are so detailed that for a long time after you finish reading the book you find yourself thinking of the people in her story , she makes them very real. The story keeps you guessing , very unpredictable , funny and worth while listening to.

dissapointing
dissapointed after all the hype. this book is 'everywhere'! but really not my kind of book i guess. not into this 'diary' style of writing. very light weight & 'fluffy'. a real 'chic' book. no substance. i choose long books to listen to as i drive a lot. but this one has failed to hold my attention & the reader's voice 'grates' some what. i dont even find it funny. though it would appear lots of people have. maybe this time i chose wrong!

A really good read
A really good story well thought out and well written. The characters are beautifully drawn and the writing is witty and humorous. Sometimes funny, sometimes pitiful, sometimes just downright sad, but always enjoyable. The narrator does a wonderful job too. I shall look out for more books by this author and can recommend this one wholeheartedly.

Stick with it....it’s worth it!!
I’m going to write the review I was looking for when I started listening to this book! I came straight out of one Marian Keyes book and dove straight into this: it drove me insane initially!! I couldn’t get my head around the prose, the style, or even the voice of the narrator. But stick with it: it’s poignant, feisty and in places, laugh out loud hilarious!! The initial character Lola, is so suited to this way of writing and when the other characters come into play, you can see why. Ms Keyes tackles some really tricky issues in this book and does it with humour, sensitivity and absolute aplomb! Wonderful book with wonderful characters.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
I read a review to say this *gets better* and you should *stick with it*
After 4 hours, and randomly (with no explanation) it flipping into an entirely different story? I gave up. I've never given up or given a 1 star review.
Listened to all of "Lola"
Main character starts off cringeworthingly annoying, shamelessly harrasing the man that cheated on her and dumped her. Camping outside his house, calling him more than 100 times.
The writing then flipped into a hidious "diary form" where the author seems to loose ability to write in complete sentences, but rather opts for the style of a "hurrdly sent text message" this includes the characters dialog, where it sounds as though all characters speak English as a second language, for example "we'll collect you in van" rather than "in THE van"
Character also seems to live in a word where paying taxes is unusual
Character a bit spineless, let's her assistant take over her business, then claims benefits because she's "lost her job".
Couldn't get into this what so ever. Some people have given 5 stars, so. Maybe it improves 🤷♀️

Amazing, thoroughly brilliant.
Absolutely amazing stuff. I could hardly believe how much I enjoyed this book. The narration was lively and enjoyable (adorable accents) and the story itself was brilliant. I really do enjoy Marian Keyes' portrayal of strong, smart and yet flawed women. I think that much of her brilliance lies in her ability to pull her reader in with humour, and then deliver her sucker punch. I also liked that it was a big fat long unabridged book - totally creditworthy! :)

Love the narrator
Would you listen to This Charming Man again? Why?
The narrator really brings the story to life, she is great.
What was one of the most memorable moments of This Charming Man?
There are many 'laugh out loud' moments that I really enjoyed, also many moments of discomfort as more difficult subjects are discussed. The narrator did a great job of them all.
Which scene was your favorite?
Lots of the scenes that Lola is in. I like, "He's got his own look, and he's working it". Also loved Grace.

Please give me a reason to keep reading this!
Would you try another book from Marian Keyes and/or Caroline Lennon?
I am only a few hours into Lola's story, and I can't take it anymore! Love the way it is versed, and the narrator is fantastic, but I can't stomach one more screw-up by the character. Flawed is one thing, but predictable mishaps are another - and no pride at all! No male character would ever be written this way. Please, if it gets better, let me know!!! I have over 20 hours left on this book.

This is the second and last book I will read by Marion Keyes. Where does she find such stupid dopey women. Or is it because they are irish????? Recommended for people with no brain.
What could Marian Keyes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Not written it

What would have made This Charming Man better?
The story lost me after chapter one.
What was most disappointing about Marian Keyes’s story?
Seemed all over the place listened to,three chapters and gave up.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Narration not the best
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Her books generally read better, but this one did not translate to audible at all. Quite a disappointment to say the least.
