Summary

The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent.

The only thing more glorious than the city itself was its inhabitants, godlike beings, with silvery skin and hair of the purest, flowing white. Able to create powerful magics with a mere wave of their hands, the Elantrians were able to heal mortal wounds and create any object they desired. To be an Elantrian was to be without sickness, without pain, and without want.

And anyone could become a god. Through a process known as the "Shaod", a normal person could go to bed one night and awake the next morning to throw away the shackles of mortality and become a being of incomparable power and grace. With Elantris as their beacon, the light inside all humanity was allowed to shine, elevating it to new heights.

But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

The weakest entry in the cosmere

I liked the graphic audio performances. But after having read mistborn, stormlight and warbreaker beforehand I was a bit disappointed overall.

poor production, distracting background noise

Awful adaptation with unnecessary background music and noise effects that distract from the dialogue.

Excellent story, but too noisy

I've read the book several times, and have listened to the regular audio twice, and the story is great. But this adaptation has far too much noise going on, the music and other noise ids too loud, which makes it hard to follow.
I strongly recommend the regular audio instead!

An epic fantasy romp!

My first Sanderson novel. Fun high fantasy epic. Great world building. Enjoyable narrative, more twists than I imagined, but some elements of the ending were telegraphed. Superb performances, music & sfx made for a great recording!

Decent story, okay narration and performance, awful audio mix

The story is good but predictable. The pacing feels off at times. Still very enjoyable.

The narration and performances are alright, but they didn't do their homework on how to pronounce some things. The voice acting is at times too exaggerated, but mostly fine.

The audio mixing is at best acceptable, often absolutely terrible.

Good story, let down by performance.

While the story is nowhere near the same level as Brandon Sandersons later works. It was thoroughly enjoyable. However, the graphic audio adaptation seems to have been mixed poorly, its often hard to understand the narration due to the excessive volume of the ambient noise.

Good read!

Loved it! I've read almost all of his older work, but I found this one just as good. Im hoping for more books about the world and the magic of Elantrians!

Fantastic story

Amazing story, great world building and magic, just wish the ending was a little stronger(it had a great ending just the last sentence I wanted to be stronger)

first reaction

the story is interesting and has me hooked but the main female actress overacts to the point of extreme irritation and with an infuriating lack of humility only those who have spent a lifetime being told they are much better than they are. All the others seem fine so I don't know where they found her. not sure I can bear it only because of that.
