Summary

Opposites don’t just attract—they ignite—in a flirty against-all-odds romance by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Lauren Landish.

Wyatt Ford hightailed it out of Cold Springs to get away from his influential family and the unwanted privilege that came with it. Returning for his brother’s wedding dredges up every reason he left. One unexpected bright spot: a curvy knockout who slings burgers, hustles pool…and hates the last name Ford.

Hazel Sullivan is fiercely independent and happy to be maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding, but she isn’t looking for romance. Especially not with a man whose family is dividing her town into a battleground with their development plans. Fighting the family is easy. Fighting Wyatt? Not so much. Why does the enemy have to be so drop-dead gorgeous?

The sparks that fly between Hazel and Wyatt might start out as combat, but one kiss and it’s total surrender. How is a happy ever after even possible for two people with so little in common? Except, of course, for an overwhelming attraction and that growing temptation to say “I do” themselves.

Critic reviews

“…romance author Lauren Landish's fun and funny novel [is brought] to life thorough the dual (and dueling) narrative skills of C.J. Bloom and Teddy Hamilton. … pure entertainment…immediate and enduringly popular.”Midwest Book Review

“Landish’s steamy novel begins as a standard wedding-fling romance but develops into an exploration of small-town life, the rising costs of real estate, and navigating family responsibility and personal ethics, all of which anchor a sexy love story featuring a bold heroine who loves a good innuendo and a decent hero who knows that the wrong bridesmaid is the right woman for him.”Library Journal

Entertaining!!!

Great narration as always by Teddy and CJ, they always have a way of grabbing your attention and bringing books to life!
Wyatt may be a Ford by name, but does his personality fit with it?... Hazel is a sassy, independent and loyal woman who has grown up hating the Ford's. Can Wyatt convince her he's the complete opposite of his uncle?... There's plenty of twists, drama, family, friendship, tension, sizzling chemistry, witty banter, laughter, community and more throughout. Absolutely love Lester and his antics, had me laughing out loud a few times! I'll be on the look out for more by the author and Cold Springs...

This was more about small-business advocacy than romance

Sorry to say the majority of this sorry felt rooted in small-business advocacy/small-town preservation… which is great… but the romance was, suffice it to say, lacking.

I never got into it, because all the conversations centered on two things: Wyatt’s bad family vs. Hazel’s nice family, and the town politics. That’s it. It was the same conversation over and over, the steam/intimacy was perfunctory and served no purpose except to keep the story ticking along. And the whole “wrong bridesmaid” thing was completely incongruous with the actual story. It was silly and made no sense.

Finally, while Teddy H is always a treat… CJ Bloom threw the cadence and tone off.

Grandpa Joe

Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 /5
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶/5
Recommend: Yep!! I love a good RomCom
Re-read/re-listen: Yes, I would listen to this book again. I enjoyed the humor.
Trope: Enemies to lovers.
Narrators: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5. Teddy Hamilton and CJ Bloom

• Story:
Wyatt is going back to the town that he runs away from to become his own person away from his picture, perfect family, and pain in the ass Uncle. He is home for his brothers wedding, but he doesn't plan on staying long. That is until he meets the smart, sassy mouth and gorgeous maid of honor, Hazel.
• Favorite parts:
Grandpa Joe is amazing. I wished Grandpa Joe had mote one liners.lol . Lester the bird. And the quick wit humor. The name of the menus items. Lol
• Thoughts:
This is my very first Lauren Landish book, and it will definitely not be my last. I seriously love listening to RomComs more than reading them. So I have a feeling I see more Lauren book in my audible TBL rather than my TBR. Which is not to say I won't read a Lauren Landiah novel. That is just my preference to listen to them. This one was fun and quick pace. I feel hard for the Ford siblings. I really loved their banter and their easiness they had with one another. That is also the same for Hazel's family. Though I get it. I did get annoyed with Etta. But she had her reasoning, and I still loved the old lady. The chemistry with Wyatt and Hazel was easy, and I loved their attraction with one another. This story had drama but not the couple, but with Wyatt's family. The comradory with the town was epic. It really was a fun and sweet contemporary story.
•Narrators:
Teddy Hamilton and CJ Bloom are amazing! I love pretty much anything they narrate. They could narrate a cereal box, and I would listen to it. Lol.

What. A. Story. I listened to audiobook

This novel is a hilarious story involving a family-owned bar and bakery, a talking and swearing parrot, and tons of wit.
Oh and an order of hierarchy in a town. You know, the usual
Phenomenal job on audio by narrator and an AWESOME job on story by Landish

Just so unbelievable

Don’t get me wrong, I like to have a fun, sometimes silly, romcom book to read. But, this was absurd. The interactions between the individuals were laughable and had no basis in reality. Things like openly discussing the protagonist’s penis in front of a room, full of women by a seamstress were just so stupid. And the mustache twirling uncle protagonist was ridiculous. I finished it, but that’s really just because that’s who I am as a person, lol. This was terrible.

Sexy Small Town Romance

This story has all the hallmarks of a made for TV romance, except for the very sexy scenes that you wouldn't see on "that" TV station. Man returns to hometown for brother's wedding after long absence and falls for bridesmaid. The story about who his family is, why he left and how to reconcile it all with his heart is not completely original but is very well told. The narrators, CJ Bloom and Teddy Hamilton, do a terrific job, adding depth to a fairly simple romance. I enjoyed this audiobook.
