Summary

Opposites don’t just attract—they ignite—in a flirty against-all-odds romance by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Lauren Landish.

Wyatt Ford hightailed it out of Cold Springs to get away from his influential family and the unwanted privilege that came with it. Returning for his brother’s wedding dredges up every reason he left. One unexpected bright spot: a curvy knockout who slings burgers, hustles pool…and hates the last name Ford.

Hazel Sullivan is fiercely independent and happy to be maid of honor for her best friend’s wedding, but she isn’t looking for romance. Especially not with a man whose family is dividing her town into a battleground with their development plans. Fighting the family is easy. Fighting Wyatt? Not so much. Why does the enemy have to be so drop-dead gorgeous?

The sparks that fly between Hazel and Wyatt might start out as combat, but one kiss and it’s total surrender. How is a happy ever after even possible for two people with so little in common? Except, of course, for an overwhelming attraction and that growing temptation to say “I do” themselves.

Critic reviews

“…romance author Lauren Landish's fun and funny novel [is brought] to life thorough the dual (and dueling) narrative skills of C.J. Bloom and Teddy Hamilton. … pure entertainment…immediate and enduringly popular.”Midwest Book Review

“Landish’s steamy novel begins as a standard wedding-fling romance but develops into an exploration of small-town life, the rising costs of real estate, and navigating family responsibility and personal ethics, all of which anchor a sexy love story featuring a bold heroine who loves a good innuendo and a decent hero who knows that the wrong bridesmaid is the right woman for him.”Library Journal

This was more about small-business advocacy than romance

Sorry to say the majority of this sorry felt rooted in small-business advocacy/small-town preservation… which is great… but the romance was, suffice it to say, lacking.

I never got into it, because all the conversations centered on two things: Wyatt’s bad family vs. Hazel’s nice family, and the town politics. That’s it. It was the same conversation over and over, the steam/intimacy was perfunctory and served no purpose except to keep the story ticking along. And the whole “wrong bridesmaid” thing was completely incongruous with the actual story. It was silly and made no sense.

Finally, while Teddy H is always a treat… CJ Bloom threw the cadence and tone off.

Lester as the best

Lester might be the best character but these narrators and author are amazing. This book is definitely a must read or better yet listen to.

Sweet, sexy and silly!

This is a wonderful story of a small town with true characters; the kind who make life interesting, frustrating, but who truly care for each other.

This just rubbed me the wrong way repeatedly

I want to say first I am not turned off by cursing , I grew up with it, and my husband has a very foul mouth, haha.. BUT, the h's aunt has a restaurant called Puss and Boots, and one of their signature plates is a hamburger called a "Fat P***y". That gets yelled out throughout the book, with call the innuendo's to go with it. That's just one example. I personally find the h just too vulgar for my taste. I understand she's supposed to be a strong, in your face woman, but I found her immature and unnecessarily crude often. I am also shocked that the main couple , who have known each other a few days, gets intimate without protection and with no discussion or agreement about it. It's never discussed before or after.
This also has two things I have grown tired of in romance stories, although I didn't like them to begin with , but it feels beat to death. That is a pet that is supposed to be funny, but it completely unrealistic. This time it's a parrot, yelling improper and obscene things all the time.. I found it so annoying and not funny, not clever in the slightest. Then add in my second hated thing in romance novels..... Crass and inappropriate elders..Not funny, and actually insulting and degrading to seniors imo.. The jokes the characters make about the elder people in their lives just feels like a peek into the authors attitude and I find it lacking. I also didn't care about the towns problem, and I think it has to be because this book pushed me away instead of drawing me in.
One of the last thoughts the h has near the end " He just right for my p***y and my heart". Yea, just gave me a warm fuzzy... haha.. no... just no..
