Summary

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a heartfelt romantic comedy about new beginnings and finding the romanticized happily ever after in the most unlikely of places.

Hollywood screenwriter Sawyer Walsh knows a good love story when he sees it. But when it comes to real life romance, he’s a mess. That’s how he finds himself standing at the altar…as his ex-girlfriend ties the knot with his very famous best friend. The pressure, the resentment, the media coverage—it’s all too much—and before he knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s making a run for it, leaving a shocked congregation and flashing cameras in his wake.

Needing to lie low amid the media fallout, Sawyer lands in the charming town of Canoodle, California, where he crosses paths with Fallon Long, who runs the Canoodle Cove Cabins, a family-owned business and Sawyer’s new short-term residence. Overwhelmed with renovations and her long list of responsibilities, Fallon is struggling to make ends meet while attempting to bring the cabins back to their original glory. So when Sawyer arrives, she is grateful for the income, but immediately writes him off as just another vapid Hollywood hack, until he begins to prove her wrong at every turn.

As Fallon comes closer to saving the family business, an undeniable bond forms between her and the handsome screenwriter. But the pressures of her family obligations and Sawyer’s notoriety might prove to be too much for anyone to handle. Could Canoodle be the setting for a new romance—or is true love just a Hollywood cliché?

Small town romance

I really enjoyed this story, its the first book I've read from Meghan Quinn and it won't be the last.

This is a small town romance, it's not second chance, but it kind of is too - when you read it you'll understand. Fallon does have a boyfriend at the start but there is no cheating.

Former nurse Fallon has moved to help her grandfathers since his diognosis of Alzeimers, she's also taken on the task up updating his cabin business and she's feeling overwhelmed. I wanted to knock some sense into her when she kept refusing help, she needed as much as she could get. The way that Alzeimers was portrayed in the book was heartbreaking and really shows how the disease can affect everyone surrounding the person, and the different ways people deal with it.

Sawyer is a screenwriter, and has got caught up in all the Hollywood drama, when he realises he can't take all the lies anymore he leaves, in spectacular fashion - meaning he needs to lay low for a while, and when he ends up at the cabins, he decides to stay for a while. I loved Sawyer as a character, he was the perfect gentleman. I enjoyed his references to what was happening around him into how this would play out in a screen play. The banter between Sawyer and his brother did have me laughing out loud a few times.

I have to say that I did not like Jazz (Fallons best friend), she is one of the reasons for me to drop this book from 5 to 4 stars. Her need to constantly threaten everyone with a switch-blade was just excessive and unneeded in the character. I could not see her being friends with Fallon at all, apart from them being the only two females in town of the same age. The only thing I did like about her was her nickname for Sawyer.

There is a lot of coversation in this book, which I love, as I think it really shows the characters personalities.

The epilogue - I expected most of what was in the epilogue, especially around Sawyer and Fallon, but did not expect what happened to Jazz, I didn't see it coming, not because it was a twist, but because I don't think it should have happened, it just didn't seem likely it would have happen at all.

The narrators did an excellent job, they were easy to listen to and really brought the characters to life. I would listen to books read by them again.

Too corny

I had high hopes for this book. There was the basis for a good story, but it just got too cheesy and predictable. Easy beach read.

Wholesome Small Town Romantic Comedy

Well this was not what I was expecting from Meghan Quinn. It's nothing like the previous books I've read from her but damn if it's not the sweetest goddamn small town romance. If you want a true slow burn romance this is the one for you. Not only do our characters have a second chance romance but we get such an adorable friends to lovers plotline too. It was a bit too much of a slow burn for me but if you want a true swoonworthy, romantic gesture, cinnamon roll love interest you gotta check this one out.

Tropes
✅ Second chance romance
✅ Small Town
✅ Notebook vibes with the romantic plot being paralleled with the elder generation romance
✅ Home repair
✅ Friends to lovers
✅ Small love triangle
✅ Quirky side characters
✅ Grand gestures
✅ Cinnamon roll book bf
✅ Laugh out loud moments
✅ SLOW BURN

If you're looking for a hotter read like some of her other books, this isn't it! This is much more wholesome and romantic than smutty. The story is much more about these two souls finding each other through their own trials and tribulations and the sexy time is only one scene and very minor. But I will say it was such a cute read. Definitely, romcom gold with so much heart.

It’s ok!

It’s an easy listen, a little slow and a little boring but it’s ok. Not overly original.

Strong start, fast fade

So saccharine it will give you tooth decay. Started out fine, but quickly dissolved into formulaic slush. I skipped chapters at a time hoping for some substance. Nope.

I just like Meghan Quinn

All Quinn’s books are fun to read with laugh out loud moments and slight nods to other books in her library. I love how she weaves a story together and makes it easy to read while I unwind after work or wait for kids at sports practices. A little Hallmark-esk feel, but that’s what I keep coming back for. Who doesn’t love a happy ending that includes a little romance, characters doing embarrassing things and a lot of laughs.

I couldn’t finish it.

It was like listening to a cliche Hallmark movie. Small town? Check. Cynical heroine? Check. Quirky best friend? Check and pass.

Slow -3.5 stars.

Slow build up to Sawyer and Fallon but worth the listen. There was too much unnecessary dialogue (can a story have too much dialogue?). Despite that the dialogue was mostly witty. Really disliked Fallons best friend, Jazz. Her character added nothing to the story and frankly made it a bit of a hard listen. Jazz was a bully and a physical and mental abuser of those around her. I loved Sawyer but didn’t like the way the author portrayed him as a bit of a wimp, to fearful of a woman to prevent her from calling him by a female’s name and overall allowing her to bully him. He would have been perfect with a bit more alpha male in him. Also loved Sawyer’s brother. I enjoyed the banter between the two and enjoyed the caring between them. Hated to see him with Jazz.
