Loved it!!

I really enjoyed the story and narrative, lily was hilarious, the way she got under kellers skin was brill.
Wasn’t too keen her calling him ‘king’ and so submissive but that was just a small negative for me but overall I loved it.

Brilliant, witty and captivating!

I was recommended this book and was told it was a similar to Princess Diaries but a more adult version. I loved Princess Diaries when I was younger, so gave this a go.

It was so captivating, I loved it. Lily is such a witty, sassy character and the banter is just great. A good amount of spice, but mostly plot orientated. The world building is amazing. A new favourite of the year so far!

another excellent book

the whole experience of an audio book is so much immersive when it's done in duet style and this book achieved this perfectly. An excellent narration from both Emma and John truly brought the book to life. Meghan Quinn is fast becoming a one click author for me, I love her style of writing, her character progression, the pacing, the romance and of course the spice tops of this excellent book.

I loved it!!

OMG!! I loved it! This is one of my favorite books written by Meghan Quinn. This is an hilarious Romantic Comedy and Royally Romance, two of my favorite tropes! The characters are amazingly beautiful! The banter is outstanding. The chemistry is out of the charts. Lilly and Keller's story is funny, heartwarming, and so romantic. Lilly is feisty, sassy, and very talkative. She is such a colorful character! Keller is enigmatic, dominant, and protective. They are opposites attract, and perfect together. The supporting characters are interesting. I really like the humor in the story. The narration is wonderful! John Hartley and Emma Wilder did an outstanding job with the narration. They are perfect as Lilly and Keller. The audio production is perfect. If you like Romantic Comedy, this one is for you!

Another Meghan Quinn Laugh Out Loud Experience

I could not get enough of Lilly Campbell, she was so funny, her thoughts were hilarious, and oh so dirty, add in Emma Wilder’s narration and I couldn’t stop grinning, she was perfect. An American working on South Beach Miami, dressed daily in a bikini finds herself whisked off to what feels like the North Pole, holed up in a spooky castle, learning how to be a Queen, literally, she’s literally a real life princess. Her teacher though is Thor lookalike, Keller Fitzwilliam, and he has zero tolerance for her shenanigans, he’s trying his best to keep her at a distance. Can they remain in the professional relationship that Keller requires, or will the sexual tension become too much and need to be quelled? Sweet, funny, emotional, oh, and super sexy. The audio version was super entertaining (and over 14 hours), as I said, Emma Wilder was utter perfection. I did however have a few reservations over John Hartley as Keller, his accent was a little bit too stiff upper lip for the Thor image I had in my head.

Keller and Lilly!

Lilly’s personality and actions are exactly what you wouldn’t expect from a royal. She is witty, sarcastic and has a habit of talking first and thinking second. When she is approached by Keller, and he advises her that she needs to come with him to Torskethorpe to assume the throne. Ever since her parents passed away, she has been feeling alone so she agrees to the trip just so she can meet the family she never knew she had.

Keller is prim, proper and his life has been dedicated to serving the royal family and his country. He now finds himself responsible for training Lilly in etiquette and protocol and he finds her both intriguing and infuriating. He is determined to fulfill his duty and deny the chemistry between them, but Lilly doesn’t agree and that’s when the fun really begins.

The interactions between them are humorous and hot and there is a lot more to Keller than first appears as they find the home they have both been missing in each other. The narrators were a perfect match for the characters as they brought out all the romance and emotion of the story.

Hilariously delightful

Holy mother of sexual tension...let me go throw myself in a freezer because this book is getting hot 🥵🥵🥵 if you are a fan of delayed gratification, the slow burn in this book will hit the right spot.

Emma and John did a fantastic job of bringing Lilly and Keller to life.
Their story was funny, spicy, surprising and oh so charming.
That sexual tension I mention before? Extreme. Top tier, fan your face, hot.
And when they finally crashed together? It was everything it promised to be...
Dirty, steamy, and all the stuff we love about smutty books.

Of course, there was drama. There were betrayals and letdowns—self-sabotage at its finest.
But the grovelling was also top-notch. Swoonworthy. Perfection.

A highly enjoyable listen!

This Duet Narration is Royally Stellar

Royally Not Ready is a Princess Diaries type romance between a girl who would be princess and the Royal secretary charged with preparing her to take the crown. Narrated by Emma Wilder and John Hartley in duet, this story felt fully immersive with both narrators performing a variety of male and female characters. My biggest issue with the narration was that Emma Wilder only voiced female characters and I love listening to her man voice so much! But John Hartley's narration of Keller was deep and sensual and made up for it.

I loved the tension and attraction during the first half of this book. While Kellar resisted Lily's advances as best he could. There were a few very funny moments where I laughed out loud and others where I felt the deep emotion and loss both our hero and heroine had experienced. Keller is a bit of a Dom in the bedroom, which was fun to read, I wish there was more conversation of consent and boundaries. I think it was a conversation that was missing from this book and would have been much appreciated by this reader. I found this book to be a little too long, and about 2/3 of the way in my interest started to wane. It picked back up when they went to meet the king and the journey continued in the capital. I enjoy royal romance and this one was fun and romantic. Most girls have dreamt about being a secret princess, so this was a fun story to listen to.

I received an ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.

A steamy twist to The Princess Diaries

Now I am huge fan of Meghan Quinn, everyone who knows me, knows this. However Royal Romances are really not my jam. So when Royally not ready landed on my e-reader I was curious to see if Meghan could change my mind.

I actually read the first third of this and then listened to the entire audiobook and I definitely got Princess Diaries vibes from this story. Lilly the heroine is confident, bold and lives her life to the best of her ability. Running a bikini store based out of a truck and hosting beach parties for promotion, not exactly what you would picture as an heir to the throne. When Keller comes along to bring her back to Torkesthorpe and claim her place as Queen, it is his responsibility to train her.

Royally not ready had three main tropes for me, Royal Romance, Enemies to Lovers and Grumpy/Sunshine. I think Grumpy/Sunshine was the predominant trope for me and I was happy that was the case. Keller was very prim and proper, just as you would expect an employee of a royal family to be; but don't let that fool you. Keller has a naughty side that certainly fulfilled the steam factor for this book.

I won't go into the storylines or plot at all, I will say for me personally I found the book to be a little on the slow side. I did love all the detail and cultural building that was put into the book as Lilly progressed through her Queen in training program with Keller. I thought this really set the scene, but maybe a little at the cost to the pacing. Lilly and Keller were likable characters but there wasn't an instant connection to them or their romance I wasn't 100% sold until much later in the book.
Overall I did enjoy it but it isn't one of my top MQ books. As a non fan of Royal Romances I was glad that Meghan didn't overdo that aspect of the story, it was handled quite well and really wasn't thrown in your face. I just wish I felt more pull between the characters emotionally and the pacing was a little quicker.

I think Royally Not Ready is a book I will relisten on Audio and see if the second listen ups my rating. The audiobook performances I thought were pretty good! Emma Wilder for me played Lilly well but I adored her portrayal of Lara I have to say, her accent work was fantastic. John Hartley was a new to me narrator and I did enjoy his performance too. Although the were a few things here and there that I found off putting about the audio. Mainly the absence of scene breaks within a chapter. As this was a duet narration, scene changes within the same chapter just didn't stand out enough and I found myself thinking huh what's happening now?

There is a sequel on the way in Jan 2023 Royally in Trouble and I have to admit I am interested to see where the story goes.
