Brilliant, witty and captivating!

I was recommended this book and was told it was a similar to Princess Diaries but a more adult version. I loved Princess Diaries when I was younger, so gave this a go.

It was so captivating, I loved it. Lily is such a witty, sassy character and the banter is just great. A good amount of spice, but mostly plot orientated. The world building is amazing. A new favourite of the year so far!

another excellent book

the whole experience of an audio book is so much immersive when it's done in duet style and this book achieved this perfectly. An excellent narration from both Emma and John truly brought the book to life. Meghan Quinn is fast becoming a one click author for me, I love her style of writing, her character progression, the pacing, the romance and of course the spice tops of this excellent book.

I loved it!!

OMG!! I loved it! This is one of my favorite books written by Meghan Quinn. This is an hilarious Romantic Comedy and Royally Romance, two of my favorite tropes! The characters are amazingly beautiful! The banter is outstanding. The chemistry is out of the charts. Lilly and Keller's story is funny, heartwarming, and so romantic. Lilly is feisty, sassy, and very talkative. She is such a colorful character! Keller is enigmatic, dominant, and protective. They are opposites attract, and perfect together. The supporting characters are interesting. I really like the humor in the story. The narration is wonderful! John Hartley and Emma Wilder did an outstanding job with the narration. They are perfect as Lilly and Keller. The audio production is perfect. If you like Romantic Comedy, this one is for you!

Another Meghan Quinn Laugh Out Loud Experience

I could not get enough of Lilly Campbell, she was so funny, her thoughts were hilarious, and oh so dirty, add in Emma Wilder’s narration and I couldn’t stop grinning, she was perfect. An American working on South Beach Miami, dressed daily in a bikini finds herself whisked off to what feels like the North Pole, holed up in a spooky castle, learning how to be a Queen, literally, she’s literally a real life princess. Her teacher though is Thor lookalike, Keller Fitzwilliam, and he has zero tolerance for her shenanigans, he’s trying his best to keep her at a distance. Can they remain in the professional relationship that Keller requires, or will the sexual tension become too much and need to be quelled? Sweet, funny, emotional, oh, and super sexy. The audio version was super entertaining (and over 14 hours), as I said, Emma Wilder was utter perfection. I did however have a few reservations over John Hartley as Keller, his accent was a little bit too stiff upper lip for the Thor image I had in my head.

Keller and Lilly!

Lilly’s personality and actions are exactly what you wouldn’t expect from a royal. She is witty, sarcastic and has a habit of talking first and thinking second. When she is approached by Keller, and he advises her that she needs to come with him to Torskethorpe to assume the throne. Ever since her parents passed away, she has been feeling alone so she agrees to the trip just so she can meet the family she never knew she had.

Keller is prim, proper and his life has been dedicated to serving the royal family and his country. He now finds himself responsible for training Lilly in etiquette and protocol and he finds her both intriguing and infuriating. He is determined to fulfill his duty and deny the chemistry between them, but Lilly doesn’t agree and that’s when the fun really begins.

The interactions between them are humorous and hot and there is a lot more to Keller than first appears as they find the home they have both been missing in each other. The narrators were a perfect match for the characters as they brought out all the romance and emotion of the story.

Hilariously delightful

Holy mother of sexual tension...let me go throw myself in a freezer because this book is getting hot 🥵🥵🥵 if you are a fan of delayed gratification, the slow burn in this book will hit the right spot.

Emma and John did a fantastic job of bringing Lilly and Keller to life.
Their story was funny, spicy, surprising and oh so charming.
That sexual tension I mention before? Extreme. Top tier, fan your face, hot.
And when they finally crashed together? It was everything it promised to be...
Dirty, steamy, and all the stuff we love about smutty books.

Of course, there was drama. There were betrayals and letdowns—self-sabotage at its finest.
But the grovelling was also top-notch. Swoonworthy. Perfection.

A highly enjoyable listen!

This Duet Narration is Royally Stellar

Royally Not Ready is a Princess Diaries type romance between a girl who would be princess and the Royal secretary charged with preparing her to take the crown. Narrated by Emma Wilder and John Hartley in duet, this story felt fully immersive with both narrators performing a variety of male and female characters. My biggest issue with the narration was that Emma Wilder only voiced female characters and I love listening to her man voice so much! But John Hartley's narration of Keller was deep and sensual and made up for it.

I loved the tension and attraction during the first half of this book. While Kellar resisted Lily's advances as best he could. There were a few very funny moments where I laughed out loud and others where I felt the deep emotion and loss both our hero and heroine had experienced. Keller is a bit of a Dom in the bedroom, which was fun to read, I wish there was more conversation of consent and boundaries. I think it was a conversation that was missing from this book and would have been much appreciated by this reader. I found this book to be a little too long, and about 2/3 of the way in my interest started to wane. It picked back up when they went to meet the king and the journey continued in the capital. I enjoy royal romance and this one was fun and romantic. Most girls have dreamt about being a secret princess, so this was a fun story to listen to.

I received an ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.

A steamy twist to The Princess Diaries

Now I am huge fan of Meghan Quinn, everyone who knows me, knows this. However Royal Romances are really not my jam. So when Royally not ready landed on my e-reader I was curious to see if Meghan could change my mind.

I actually read the first third of this and then listened to the entire audiobook and I definitely got Princess Diaries vibes from this story. Lilly the heroine is confident, bold and lives her life to the best of her ability. Running a bikini store based out of a truck and hosting beach parties for promotion, not exactly what you would picture as an heir to the throne. When Keller comes along to bring her back to Torkesthorpe and claim her place as Queen, it is his responsibility to train her.

Royally not ready had three main tropes for me, Royal Romance, Enemies to Lovers and Grumpy/Sunshine. I think Grumpy/Sunshine was the predominant trope for me and I was happy that was the case. Keller was very prim and proper, just as you would expect an employee of a royal family to be; but don't let that fool you. Keller has a naughty side that certainly fulfilled the steam factor for this book.

I won't go into the storylines or plot at all, I will say for me personally I found the book to be a little on the slow side. I did love all the detail and cultural building that was put into the book as Lilly progressed through her Queen in training program with Keller. I thought this really set the scene, but maybe a little at the cost to the pacing. Lilly and Keller were likable characters but there wasn't an instant connection to them or their romance I wasn't 100% sold until much later in the book.
Overall I did enjoy it but it isn't one of my top MQ books. As a non fan of Royal Romances I was glad that Meghan didn't overdo that aspect of the story, it was handled quite well and really wasn't thrown in your face. I just wish I felt more pull between the characters emotionally and the pacing was a little quicker.

I think Royally Not Ready is a book I will relisten on Audio and see if the second listen ups my rating. The audiobook performances I thought were pretty good! Emma Wilder for me played Lilly well but I adored her portrayal of Lara I have to say, her accent work was fantastic. John Hartley was a new to me narrator and I did enjoy his performance too. Although the were a few things here and there that I found off putting about the audio. Mainly the absence of scene breaks within a chapter. As this was a duet narration, scene changes within the same chapter just didn't stand out enough and I found myself thinking huh what's happening now?

There is a sequel on the way in Jan 2023 Royally in Trouble and I have to admit I am interested to see where the story goes.

Warning you will laugh out loud & saloon💕

Royally not Ready?? Heck yes I am!! A sexy AF, poetry writing, loyal to the core, dom in the bedroom Viking god of a man!! SAWOON y’all. Keller is all that and a bag of chips 😍

To be fair to Lilly he is kind of a jerk to her at the beginning but he’s got a good reason (🙄 or that’s what he’s convinced himself). She is not deterred because she wants a piece of that scrummy Viking & won’t stop until she gets him…and get him she does🥵 Their chemistry is off the charts and they quickly realize that they have a lot in common.

Keller continues to take his duties seriously and trains Lilly in everything that she needs to know before she meets the King & Queen. Though she is still nervous she finds strength in Keller’s love. Though he tried to protect her from everything there are still people who are out to destroy them and Keller’s fixation & doubt is his downfall.

But y’all his courting game is strong & he woos the heck out of Lilly💕

You will definitely laugh out loud (the car chase scene is a riot), swoon (Viking poet😍), tear up a bit (they’re both searching for a person to fill the loss they have both suffered) and fall in love with Torskethorpe just as much as Lilly.

I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about the audiobook bc Keller is a kinda prickly but y’all John NAILED it! His exasperation bleeds through;) He is perfection. Omg & Emma is so much fun as Lilly!! I’ll be the Louise to her Thelma any day☺️

Fave quotes:

“I know, but I need Lilija to know where I stand.” She levels herself with Lilly. “And I stand with you, Lilija. I shall be your backbone, your support, your concierge. I’ll be everything you need.” “How about a grandma?” Lilly asks softly. “Never really had one of those, and it was what I was excited about most when coming to Strombly.” Katla’s eyes now well up as she nods. “Yes, yes, I can do that for you.”—-😭this scene y’all!! Such a beautiful scene full of forgiveness & acceptance and blind love👏🏻❤️

“I’ve never felt a love as fierce or powerful as for the woman who captured my heart. I wanted to express the devotion I have for her through art.”—-told y’all Keller is swoon worthy 🥰

Get ready for a fun adult retelling of The Princess Diaries! This book was cute & steamy.
I enjoyed the banter and the chemistry but most of all I enjoyed the heroine's feisty positive attitude & her honesty from the beginning. She was blunt about her feelings no mater what they were. The hero was grumpy and sexy but I didn't love that he repeatedly said that he wasn't worthy of her because of her bloodline. How can a guy with so much attitude and confidence also feel that way?

I enjoyed the storyline but It did feel a little slow at times, maybe a little to long and drawn out. I wanted the family stuff so much but it doesn't really come into the story until like 75% in, I mean the entire story was about her meeting her family and it took to long to get there.

Love a HEA and a great epilogue so the ending worked perfectly.
The narration was about 50/50 for me, I loved some parts of it and not other parts but that just means I only liked it not that I dislike it. Definitely worth listening to!

Not Recommended

Not my cup of tea. I listened more than half the story but found that it dragged. While parts were interesting and the characters likable if not relatable the swearing and seeming one track mind of the two main characters was over the top. It almost seemed they were competing for who could be the most crude and rude. No thank you.

Overall the narrating was good.

Amazing book!

Lily is spitfire and goes after what she wants and when she decides she want Keller Fitzwilliam there is no stopping her. Even when he tries to keep from falling for her.

Not to mention her who her long lost family is. This book actually had me crying and laughing. Amazing book!

Enemies to Lovers

Keller was sent to Florida to meet and convince Lilly to travel to a small nation she's never heard of in order to train her to be the next queen. Keller is a by-the-rules private secretary to the king, Lilly's grandfather who she's never met. Lilly is a free spirit and has no filter. She was never told of her mother's heritage and is surprised to hear that she'll be next in line to the throne of a country she can't pronounce. Keller and Lilly have a slow burn relationship while he tries to train her to be a royal and she tries to loosen him up. They find that they have a lot in common-- the death of both of their parents at a young age for one. I thought this was a great book showing that not all royals are stuffy and that they can love their families and still be rulers. There's also the typical Meghan Quinn humor that I enjoy. the narration by Emma Wilder and John Hartley was wonderful.

Fun, flirty, fiery, fantastic rom com

You never know what you're going to get with Meghan Quinn - may be romcom, may rip your heart out and shred it to pieces, may make you cry your eyes out, may make you laugh until you pee your pants. No matter which Meghan Quinn shows up, you're going to get an absolutely amazing read or listen.

Royally Not Ready is a grown up, spicy and hilarious spin on The Princess Diaries. Lilly, our unsuspecting royal, is uproariously funny, refreshing, and does not hold back in her beliefs, her love of life, and her sense of adventure. Keller is almost her polar opposite. He doesn't make waves, he is conservative and proper, and he is absolutely flummoxed, infuriated and enthralled by Lilly. Their interactions, from the moment they met, are positively combustible. Meghan Quinn has written them both with so much earnestness, so much spirit and so much care, that you really love both Lilly and Keller immediately.

The narration by Emma Wilder and John Hartley is simply fantastic. Emma is a downright comic genius in this performance, and she had me in stitches. I loved how she captured Lilly's spirit and zest for life. She's seriously one of the absolute best in the business. John Hartley was the perfect foil for our free spirit, and he embodied the battle between Keller's propriety and his desire.

A flirty, fiery, funny, fantastic, five-star listen.

Fabulously Delightful! Amazing Story & Listen🎧

This delightfully hilarious, laugh out loud, romantic comedy is absolutely amazing. and I loved everything about it, from Meghan Quinn’s wonderful writing style to the fabulous characters and storylines she created to the perfectly cast narrators who bring it all to life from the pages to your ears. I also loved the originality of this story and the unique twist on a royal romance and its spiciness too. This story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end, and while it is a lengthy story, it flies by so quickly and you are so engrossed in it you do not want it to end. I adored the two lead characters, Lilly Campbell and Keller Fitzwilliam, opposite personalities from different parts of the world, though it turns out they have one thing in common and it is quite steamy. Lilly is full of personality, she lives in Miami, Florida and has a fun time selling bikinis in South Beach. Keller is the King of Torskethorpe's right-hand man and he sends him on a mission to the states to find his granddaughter and bring to back Torskethorpe. She has no clue who she really is, but she will soon learn and it will be Keller who tells her and then it is his job to teach her about the country and to prep her to behave royally. This book is cleverly plotted and the witty dialogue is absolutely brilliant, from the no filter Lilly to the grumpiest of grumps, Keller but there is a lot more to that man and Lilly knows just how to bring out his well hidden, oh, so naughty, alpha bad boy side. There is never a dull moment in this book, and it has a perfect balance of drama, humor, a touch of angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Meghan Quinn, thank you for another amazing story, the laughs and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Emma Wilder and John Hartley are the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They step into these roles with a complete understanding of the characters they are portraying, giving each a voice that fits their character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just how I picture the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, handle the witty dialogue with ease and land the humor effortlessly. You could hear how much heart and feelings they put into their work as they capture the character’s emotions and project them into their performance and have you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to, and their narration enhances an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen!

Love Keller and Lilly!

Royally Not Ready is a royal romance that I fell hard for! This book was read in duet and it is my new favorite thing. Emma Wilder and John Hartley were perfect as Keller and Lilly!

"You matter most, Lilly"

Keller, who works for the King, is set to convince the last remaining heir to give up everything and rule their kingdom. Lilly is a foul mouthed wet tshirt maker in Miami Beach and the farthest thing from a princess ever. She is absolutely fabulous! Her fun sunshine personality up against the hard grumpy Keller make for so many laugh out loud moments. These two also have some hot chemistry and the dance to get together is perfectly timed.

"You're the knight I never knew I needed."

Loved the story about these two people who felt all alone in the world. They found comfort in each other and found a family to belong to. Lilly grew so much throughout this book and Keller overcame some deep seated issues. Such a great read!

Fantastic

Lilly is taken out of her element in Miami and whisked away (willingly) to the island/country of Torskethorpe. She in the next living heir to the throne and has to learn all about the history and finds a connection with her mother she never knew about.
Keller is the secretary to the King and is assisting bringing Lilly up to speed. His job is to serve and protect the crown and he takes it very seriously.

Lilly is absolutely hilarious and relentless. She knows what she want and does not hold back any all to get it. She’s constantly cracking jokes and speaks her mind and I love everything about her.
Keller is dominating and fierce. He is serious but finds a weakness in his pull to Lilly and once he lets the band break he is all in.

I loved these two and the push and pull they had at first. It was a funny little game almost between them that being a bystander on is entertaining.

New Favorite from this author

I laughed so hard and smiled so much during this audio that my cheeks were hurting.

The tension/build up between these two characters was EVERYTHING! The banter between these two was my absolute favorite thing about this book. Lilly was this free spirited woman that cursed like a sailor & Keller was tasked with turning her into a well mannered princess... there were definitely some bumpy roads ahead! The more time they spent around each other the more their attraction grew and there is nothing like some forbidden chemistry to win this reader over!

The plot was great and it had the perfect balance of steam & humor to keep my earbuds glued to to my ears. I loved the narrators and I thought they did an amazing job bringing these characters to life. I wish there was a whole series around just Lilly & Keller because I seriously need more of these two!

I highly recommend this steamy rom-com

Royally Not Ready

I know a lot of people will says it’s like a modern day retelling of Princess Diaries and yes it is but not really.
Lilly Campbell is about to get the biggest wake up, I 100% loved her attitude and how she is herself. Swear words and all, Keller had no idea what he was about to get into. I think I loved that the most, she surprises him at every turn in all the best ways.

The banter and the chemistry are the best part of the book in my opinion. I like that she tried to shock him but he isn’t really shockable which makes them the perfect pair. It’s very spicy and I loved that I want more spice like that yes please.

I have been trying to think of the word that describes both Lilly and Keller, the word for Lilly is sass yep she is total sass. Keller would be stoic and loyal oh very loyal I liked that about him.

I wasn’t a fan of how long it took Lilly to meet her family, that felt like it just took way too long. That part of the book really dragged for me.
But when she does get to meet them it was perfect they all clicked and that was really the whole point.

Now I liked the narration, I think John Hartley was perfect for Keller, Emma personally isn’t a favorite of mine because she sounds very posh. And yes it works because this is a “Royal” book but Lilly wasn’t until she was so there is that.
