Summary

From USA Today and Amazon Charts best-selling author Meghan Quinn, and narrated in duet by Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter, comes a fresh take on a romantic-comedy classic, When Harry Met Sally. This steamy, laugh-out-loud enemies-to-lovers romance is about an annoyingly handsome coworker and the woman who refuses to be charmed by him.

Am I friends with JP Cane?

Ha! That's laughable.

Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day.

So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

The man doesn't know what it means to wear a shirt, thrives off protein bars, and you guessed it, moans loud enough for people to believe he's Meg Ryan in a restaurant.

Spoiler Alert: I WON'T be having what he's having.

Tack on his continuous flirting and his polished good looks, and I'm caught staring down the barrel of a seductive temptation that makes it hard for me to sleep at night.

But guess who can control herself? This girl.

Because if there is one thing I know for certain, it's that JP Cane and I are so not meant to be.

To be or not so meant to be?

Stella and Aaron did a fabulous job with the narration of this book.
It was funny, awkward, charming and ridiculously easy to listen to.

Yeah, JP did come across as a bit of a player, to begin with, but I could see his attraction to Kelsey was there. He is, however, such a sweet man. His kindness and sense of humour were amazing—and his love for Kazoo was (while a little ridiculous) so charming and delightful.

I didn't like how insecure Kelsey was—although granted, the situation towards the end was enough to ruffle even my feathers—it really irked me that she couldn't seem to see her value. And sometimes, I felt like she was quite mean towards JP.

I loved all the little podcasts from Meghan's couples. ADORABLE!

Especially the one near the end, I just about melted into a puddle from its sweetness.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and would happily relisten to it again.

Are we getting a story for Breaker? I sure hope so!

outstanding narration

this has got to be my favourite form of narration and compliments the book so very well, that coupled with the brilliant performances from Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter make this a truly exceptional listening experience and I highly recommend listening to it. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series and hearing snippets from previous couples from other books of Megan's was a great touch. I'm looking forward to Brakers book.

An enemies to lovers, Rom Com goodness

After reading A Not So Meet Cute earlier in the year I was excited to get JP and Kelsey's story after he set her eyes on her and she was not in the least bit interested. The story is an enemies to lovers, employer, employee forced proximity romance. JP is such a sweet Hero and misunderstood by many including Kelsey (our heroine). Seen as the playboy of the family JP is not even on Kelsey's radar for a love match, and she knows all about those. As well as running her own Eco friendly organisation company, Kelsey also has a Podcast about how couples meet. This is where I have to applaud Meghan for the barrage of easter eggs this allows. Because of the Podcast we get the Meet Cute stories and little updates on so many of Meghan's previous characters, that is a standout element to this book for me.

There are plenty of laugh out loud moments and the depantsing scene in particular had me howling with laughter. Listening to this scene on Audio was absolutely hilarious, Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter nailed it! When JP and Kelsey are forced to spend two weeks together in San Francisco the romance element of the book really starts to blossom. At times I felt sorry for JP, he really does pine for Kelsey as he realises she could actually be the person for him. Kelsey however is a little late to that game and she can be quite harsh towards JP at times but thats the enemies to lover trope as it's meant to be.

Finally we get to see a fair bit of Huxley and Lottie from A Not So Meet Cute towards the end of the book and I love that Meghan's ties characters in almost like an extended epilogue as we go along. So Not Meant To Be was an audiobook ARC for me and as a lover of Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock I was really looking forward to listening to this one. I have to say they did not disappoint performance wise. The duet narration flowed seamlessly as if they were actually having the very conversations they were portraying. One I will listen to again I have no doubt.

Sweet and Funny!

This is a sweet and funny Romantic Comedy. I loved Kelsey and JP's story. They are both interesting characters. Some scenes are hilarious. This story is interconnected with A Not So Meet Cute. Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it.

Fab Follow Up to 'A Not So Meet Cute'

This was a great follow up, with lots of laugh out loud moments, and fantastic duet narration from Aaron Shedlock & Stella Hunter.

For the most part, I loved this story, and will enjoy listening to it again, as I did with 'A Not So Meet Cute', but I found some of Kelsey's traits very annoying. For someone supposedly insecure, she made things all about her a bit too often, particularly the way she overshadowed Lottie's wedding. I would also next time skip through some of the more possessive elements of the sex scenes, as, for me, I found it uncomfortable listening. Personal taste obviously, and being dominated just not my thing 😉

On the whole though, the comedic parts and the fact that it was progressing the stories of characters we had already grown to love in the first book, made the book a great listen, and I would love there to be a third book, so that Breaker can find the love of his life too.

For the love of Kazoo<3

For just $1 a day you can help pigeons like Kazoo😜 just kidding…maybe

JP & Kelsey are perfectly prickly & all kinds of sexy in this opposites attract, enemies to lovers (kinda sorta), workplace (hello hot boss) romcom.

Seriously you guys So Not meant to Be is definitely a must read or listen!! It’s full of cameos from all of our favorite couples, the banter is on point, their chemistry is explosive & I seriously laughed out loud on several occasions{the hall scene…the restaurant…}.

I FLOVE Kelsey’s podcast so much & JPs appearance on it definitely made his swoon-o-meter max out!

I was lucky enough to listen to the audio. I love Stella as Kelsey. Her performance was perfectly matched with Aaron and the duet style just makes it so much better:)

Fave quotes:
Let’s pause here for a moment. I’m not a complete a*hole. . . all the time. I’m really not. But Kelsey just has the best reactions, and I can’t resist. She’s so *gd* gorgeous, and it’s fun to rile her. To ruffle her feathers.—-perfect example of how JP just needles Kelsey😜

Eh . . . he very well might be right about everything, because even though he does drive me nuts, I sort of like it. I fall in line with his teasing and . . . Oh God . . . am I starting to crave it? No, that couldn’t possibly be true, right? He dips his fork into the cake and takes another bite, his eyes on me the entire time. Huh . . . maybe I am.—-🤗

We walk in, and it takes my eyes a second to adjust, but once they do, they spot a little fella on a perch, wearing a bow tie that matches the fabric of my shirt. “Oh fudge,” I whisper to Kelsey. “I might cry.”—-Y’ALL this dude & Kazoo🤣

Spicy emotional rom com

Got to be honest here - Meghan Quinn can do no wrong when it comes to fun, sexy romantic comedies! And this one is super hot, hot, hot. It’s also quite emotional. All my favourite tropes in one perfect package, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, opposites attract workplace romance, not quite a forbidden romance but let’s just say that Kelsey is not open to having an office romance with her direct boss. JP though has other ideas. A fun romance with wonderful characters making for a truly entertaining addictive read. We also get an insight in to previous Meghan Quinn characters with a ‘Meant To Be’ podcast which is particularly fun if you’ve read their stories. The audio version is narrated in duet by Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock, and I loved it. Perfect narration - faultless.

JP and Kelsey!

Kelsey wants nothing more than to find a man to spend the rest of her life with, but her search hasn’t been without its pitfalls. She may be attracted to JP but doesn’t believe that there could ever be anything between them as she feels that he is looking for a good time not a long time but she is about to find out that she never really knew him at all.

From his first meeting with Kelsey he was feeling things he had never felt before but not only is he her boss but she is about to become his sister in law. When he is tasked with going to her on a business trip to San Franciso he uses that time to show her the sweet and sexy man he is and the sparks fly but because of their pasts they are in for a bumpy ride.

Fun and flirty JP and Kelsey were perfect for each other. Humorous banter, some emotional times and a great cast of secondary characters includes those who participated on Kelsey’s podcasts where we got to experience the meet cutes of the other characters we know and love. I thought that the narrators brought out the personalities of Kelsey and JP as well as the emotions they were feeling.

A fun romcom!

After loving Huxley and Lottie's story in "A Not So Meet Cute," I was excited to read more with these characters. This story is about JP Cane, Huxley's younger brother, and Kelsey Gardner, Lottie's younger sister.

Kelsey wants true love in her life. (like her sister has) She is looking for her soulmate. She has anxieties about men and not being enough for them. She wants her man to have a good heart and, for some reason, she doesn't believe JP even has a heart. He annoys her more than anything.

JP is not looking for forever. He's looking for a good time. (at least that's what he tells himself) He has been intrigued with Kelsey since the first day he met her, though. She has him thinking of forever and that scares him.

I enjoyed this story, but I didn't love it like the first book. I listened to the audiobook, which was a duet narration by Stella Hunter and Jason Shedlock. Amazing narration by both. I've read other reviews stating that Kelsey was an unlikable heroine, but I didn't feel that at all while listening to Stella Hunter's narration. She brought out Kelsey's insecurities very well.

And JP...perfectly narrated by Aaron Shedlock. Loved his drunken rambling, email writing and pigeon saving.

This story has some of the same humor that only this author can pull off. It wasn't as funny for me, though. Also, it felt just a tad too long of a story.

Thank you to Piece of Cake Audiobooks and the author for my advanced readers copy and advanced listener copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Maybe skip the audio

The production dropped the ball with this audiobook. I love dual narrations but these 2 narrators were not at the same quality. The male sounded far away and distant almost barely audible compared to how loud and clear the female sounded. The story overall was okay. Not my favorite but not terrible. I loved A Not So Meet Cute and maybe I had super high expectations for this. Regardless it was cute and funny and maybe I would’ve liked it better if I had just read the book and not listened to it.

Everything a Rom Com Should Be

Oh my gosh. I loved this book. Not only was it laugh-out-loud funny but genuinely sweet and sexy. I don't remember grinning like a fool more than I did while listening to this book. Jonah is one of the BEST male leads. This poor man is so infatuated throughout this book. And his pining is written in the best way. He can be rude and obstinate but deep down a giant pigeon loving cinnamon roll who really should not drink scotch ever again. I did not read the first book and it didn't really seem to matter much. Most things get explained so if you're more interested in an enemies to lovers trope over the fake dating trope of the first book you can just jump in here.

This book has some of the BEST banter. Honestly, these two drive each other crazy in all the best ways. JP loves nothing more than to irritate his brother's fiance's sister who he works with. It's a workplace romance with a guy who's basically a millionaire. She is a hopeless romantic desperately seeking her future man. The universe continually throws them together despite their objections. When a new business venture forces them to go to San Francisco and occupy the same penthouse things get interesting... Especially when they realize how paper thin those walls really are. This book is HOT. Be prepared.

Tropes!

✅ Forced proximity
✅ Enemies to friends to more
✅ Dirty 👄
✅ Drunk shananagins
✅ Jealousy
✅ He falls first

Honestly, I can't go into too much without giving away spoilers but just know that this book is hilarious, endearing and exactly what I want out of my rom coms. I can't believe how many times I legit laughed out loud or covered my eyes in embarrassment. It's been one of the best books I've read in a while.

JP & Kelsey were So Meant To Be

I really enjoyed this Enemies to Lovers/RomCom. The narration just made this cute story so much better. Aaron and Stella were fantastic together and I loved the duet narration. I think what I loved the most was that JP was the one that decided he wanted something to happen between him and Kelsey first. While they were both obviously attracted to each other, Kelsey was always firm with nothing could happen between them because they worked together. JP had even said early on that they couldn't even really be friends.

But when business forces them to go to San Francisco together for two weeks, anything can happen. JP was not happy about going on this business trip with Kelsey because he was so attracted to her. But since he didn't have a choice, he continued to try and be the jerk that Kelsey knew him to be. These two fought their desire for each other while also getting into some peculiar and compromising situations...that were just LOL funny.

There were a few times I wanted to jump into this story and just hug JP. He was such a different guy by the end of the story and I just didn't want their story to end.

Loved it!

SO NOT MEANT TO BE is a highly enjoyable office, slow-burn tension, and enemies-to-lovers rom-com. It is so unbelievably sweet, infectious, fun and flirty, witty, laugh-out-loud dialogue, and yet sexy and emotional that it is unputdownable. Get ready to fall in love with this delicious, cocky man—Jonah (JP) Cane and the beautiful, smart, sassy woman—Kelsey Gardner, who he can’t resist. JP has part ownership with his two brothers of Cane Enterprises. Kelsey has an Eco friendly company that she is trying to expand, so she gets hired by Crane Enterprises working under JP. Kelsey believes in love and HEA’s so much so that she also has a Meant To Be Podcast where she interviews couples that are happily in love talk about how they met. JP’s reputation precedes him as a handsome, sexy billionaire playboy, but he is really a kindhearted and romantic man that no one sees. JP also thinks that men and women cannot be friends and work together. Can men and women ever truly be friends? Well, it should be noted that Kelsey thinks they can, but will she be friends with the obnoxious JP—I think not!! “So tell me, Kelsey, what are you looking for in a man?”

JP and Kelsey are forced to work together on a project away from the office. Oh boy, not only will they have to work together, but they will share the same space at the hotel penthouse. JP and Kelsey’s unexpected attraction to each other is so intense, but the chemistry like the one they have can only be denied for so long. Their chemistry leaps off the page—they are combustible. JP and Kelsey‘s battle of wits is tremendously fun—acerbic and sexy and filled with tension. Everything about them seemed too good to be true, but none of that mattered until a situation turns Kelsey’s idyllic life upside down. Find out what happened—what a conundrum! I was cheering for JP! This is the first time I read Meghan Quinn’s book, but I assure you it won’t be the last. Meghan Quinn satisfies hearts longing for laughter in her stories, and she managed to weave humorous plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed characters.

I read the ebook and listened to the audiobook at the same time, and I really enjoyed listening to Aaron Shedlock and Stella Hunter (Narrators)—they were fantastic!! I loved how each one did their own part even when it was the other person’s POV.

Narrators ruin the story

The plot was fine, but the narrators ruined the book for me. Maybe because they were trying to portray too many characters? No matter the reason, it sounded stilted; the male narrator’s voice was particularly fake. I’ll try on Kindle instead.

Dear Mr. Shedlock

Please stop whispering. It makes the quality of the narration tedious and we miss half the story.
Now for the rest of the review. I found this follow up to Not So Meet Cute rather tedious at times because we have two very insecure characters that can't seem to get their insecurities under control until almost the end of the book and of course we have another thing that blows them off course for a bit. There is some laugh out loud situations that almost makes up for the whispering narrator and of course this would not be a Megan Quinn book without some very spicy content. I liked it overall and will read other things from her.
