Summary

The bus from Dublin to Limerick has never meant much to the inhabitants of Kilbrody, until a woman steps off it, marches into the pub, and drinks herself into oblivion. When she finally wakes up, several days later, it is to discover that Charlie Finn (who put her to bed), the local garda, and indeed the whole village are talking about her. Who is the woman on the bus? The question is, will she tell them?

Pauline McLynn was winner of Best Comedy Actress on British TV in 1996 for her role as Mrs. Doyle in the BAFTA award winning comedy series Father Ted.

Fabulous listen

I absolutely LOVED this audiobook - its hilarious in parts, endearing, heartbreaking, shocking in others. The writing is "raw" and full of realism. The bonus for me is that it was full of long forgotten Irish sayings (and plenty of new ones!)

I am not sure how well this book will be appreciated (or understood, even, in parts) by people who are not Irish but judging from the reviews of others here, that may not be a valid concern.

For me, a thoroughly enjoyable book made doubly enjoyable by the fact that it was Pauline McLynn who read her book herself.

As recommended

I bought this audio book after it was recommended and really enjoyed it. The narrator is good as is the story itself. The characters are believable and all of life is there.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

I normally read murder mysteries, but I felt like a change and came across this, and I'm so glad a did. Its well read by the author and left me looking for more by her.

Fabulous

I chose this book recently because of the previous reviews. I was in no way disappointed! It was a sheer pleasure from start to finish and now i'm going to chose another book by the same author.
Pauline McLynn is not only an accomplished actress but can also give Maeve Binchey a run for her money. Ms McLynn's narration of her own book ensured it was that it was a warm, funny, 'feel good' book.
I hope her others are just as good though this is a hard act to follow!.

hugely enjoyable first audio book experience

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

First time audio book and thoroughly enjoyable, made me laugh out loud lying on the beach! Pauline McLynn reading her own book is a real treat.

What does Pauline McLynn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I can read a book in a day if I put my mind to it - but I read far too quickly and miss loads of detail and nuance. This is the first audio book and while I found it more difficult to concentrate for a while, I did get into it really quickly, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

So enjoyable!

This was such a pleasure to listen to, I didn't want it to end! A very engrossing story with interesting characters and lots going on. Pauline McLynn narrating it herself is an added bonus!
