Summary

After discovering the Inquisitor’s plot within the Academy, Tolan is offered a chance to go with his father and learn from the Draasin Lord. Doing so not only means turning against the Academy and everything he has come to know, but means the Inquisitors will succeed in their plan.

When the Grand Master comes to him asking a dangerous favor, Tolan must make a choice that might bring him into direct contact with the Draasin Lord.

Everything he’s been taught about the elementals and the Draasin Lord is wrong.

If he can stop Aela and the Inquisitors, he might be able to save the Academy, but the Draasin Lord has something else in mind for him.

The MC !!!

Tolan just seems too dumb for the MC he just seems to get dumber and dumber as the books go on, I keep finding myself wanting to skip a chapter to see if he makes the obvious choice.

IMO MC HAS NOT SHOWN ANY GROWTH

I got through first three, but a common issue I had was there were paragraphs among paragraphs that just say same thing, almost like just fillers and its very frustrating , I did not finish this one. was too fed up with it. I'm, probably not the target audience so take this with grain of salt.

Good but extremely slow

I like the story and characters but the series has moved soooo slow so far. The amount the main characters have developed their abilities seems like barely enough for one book and I'm through 4. Hopefully it picks up to make the last few credits worth it

Repetition and going nowhere

I really want to like this series, but I cannot get through a fourth book of repeating the exact same things as the last three books… Tolen’s inner struggle about elementals and whether or not to release or support them. Story is not bad, it just doesn’t go anywhere for me.

I like the concept

The concept of the series is good and I like the approach to the elements. The protagonist gets ambiguous in age. There are inconsistencies. Character does something then a paragraph later seems to have not been involved. Little story line inconsistencies that could have been smoothed out. The protagonists’ favorite thing to say and be told is “I don’t understand.” Then virtually every other character tells him, “you don’t understand.” Then proceed to either not clarify or give a round about “answer”. This tactic comes off as trying to add mystery and layers to knowledge of the world but is used too frequently and with little pay off.

I’ve listened through to this book and intend to continue. The story is good, could have been great with some more refining.

Almost didn't finish

I was disappointed in this one. I don't know if it was the narration or the writing but the main protagonist just came off so whiny. I almost gave up on it a few times. Not sure if it's enough to hold my interest to complete the series if this is the tone going forward.

how many times can he say "and yet"

its a good story but why is he constantly doing a monologue in his head. so many "and yets" its ridiculous. I kept hitting the 30 sec skip and speeding up the narration and missed nothing but inner monologue. so annoying. I wish it would move thru the story faster. its sooo sloooow. and how many times can he think...and yet?? if it was a drinking game.. I would be plastered. ugh. I really wanted to like this story.
why didn't he ask about his mother where? where did his dad go mid fight? why is he so forgiving of the head Master. why did the friends not notice him practicing alone so much....so many missed opportunities. it could've been great... and yet ...it wasnt...

Repetitive comments...

overall, a good story; however, the author tends to repeat thing multiple times, which become extremely annoying...
