25 BC. Titus Cervianus is no ordinary soldier. A former surgeon from the city of Ancyra, he's now a capsarius—a combat medic. Cervianus is a pragmatist, a scientist and truly unpopular with his legion. The Twenty Second Deiotariana have been sent to deal with uprisings and chaos in Egypt. Yet the Twenty Second is no ordinary legion either. Founded as the private royal army of one of Rome's most devoted allies, the king of Galatia, their ways are not the same as the other legions, a factor that sets them apart and causes friction with their fellow soldiers.

Summary
Winner of the Independent Publisher Book Award for Best Adult Fiction
A nobleman from an infamous family, imperial legionary officer, and born fighter, Ben Stiger is trapped in the past and cut off from everything he has known. The World Gate is sealed behind him, and Delvaris, the man he traveled through time to save, is dead. With this great man’s death, the future has been altered by the evil god Castor.
Stiger has lost his purpose. For the first time in a great long while, no one needs saving, and no one needs killing. Stiger is a man out of his time and, worse, a prisoner of the dwarves.
Cast adrift in a time not his own, Stiger believes his time as a leader of men is at an end. But the gods are not done with him yet. A terrible evil looms over the Vrell Valley like a grim shadow. Castor’s dark servants are hard at work. Despite being a man out of his time, Stiger is viewed as a threat to be eliminated, for a dread destiny has been stamped onto his line from the time of Karus.
The Horde is on the march, and the Thirteenth Legion is in Vrell without a legate. There is only one man who can lead the Lost - Stiger. This is the Tiger’s Time! The question is...can the damage done by Castor’s servants be repaired and will it be enough to change his destiny?

Good but let down by average narration
Read the books so got the audiobook. Obviously I like the story but the narration felt like someone was ‘reading’ a story rather ‘telling’ a story if you understand what I mean. And this is the difference between an average audiobook and one that I would want to keep for listening again. However if you are into the genre covered by the story and haven’t read the book then it’s definitely worth a listen.

Pleasant surprise.
Normally as a point of principle I am apposed to the assumption we mugs will buy into the episodic nature of modern literature. It makes me angry you have to purchase the next 15 or so books to have a beginning, middle and end. But! In this case bugger my principles, I was genuinely disappointed there was only 4 books in the saga. I would defy anyone to predict where you end up with by book 4 from the start of book 1. Basically I really enjoyed the mix of characters so much I purchased 3 extra credits so, like an excited kiddy, I didn't have to wait. Of course the narrator was excellent which added to my guilty pleasure. Start with book 1 and enjoy the escapest ride.

I, and others, asked for the books to be longer, and wow did Marc oblige. Love enters Ben's life and,,, well no spoilers. once again brilliantly written totally enthralling and expertly narrated. If you have not read the previous 6 books then do so, as 8 is due in new yr. a wonderful adventure crossing over from historical fiction to fantasy , my preference was the former but Marcs' work transfers sublimely, and I purchased this on day of audible release such a fan am I now. 3 series with a 4th to come late 2019, I only wish he could write faster, or time travel, hint, and have started earlier. role on new year

Great book / LOTS of Conversation & Descriptions!
The finale of Ben Stiger, a Roman military officer, comes to a bloody, action packed end. If you haven't read the prior books and just came to the last to read reviews, here's what you can expect: Roman legions are placed in a fantasy world set with elves, orcs, gnomes, magic, wizards, and good and evil gods. The story and plot are fantastic, although there aren't a lot of surprises or twists, sub-plots, or scheming back stabbers that add to the "what the heck!" reactions in some other fantasy stories. It's all pretty straight-forward, but that isn't a bad thing in this case.
For someone to thoroughly enjoy this series, however, you have to have some interest in Roman military life, military equipment, and military tactics. I'd say at least a fourth of these books focus on the daily and hourly life of Roman soldiers and officers. Couple this with great attention to detail about their surroundings, equipment, tools, how they interact with the environment and each other, it can become VERY tedious listen to. Another great portion of these books (easily upwards of half of this book) contains scenes of talk between the characters and planning for upcoming battles. There are LONG discussions about tactics, maneuvers, and all the possible contingency planning for each upcoming contact with enemy forces. Once we get to the battles, with all the planning talk and descriptions we were given earlier, it makes it very easy to see and feel what it must have been like to be on the line as a Roman soldier. So, if you can get by the talk and descriptions, the series really does deliver a powerful punch. Ben Stiger is in my top 10 for greatest fantasy fiction main characters, however, the narrator is my opinion is average at best, simply because of the lack of variation in his tone and voicing for all the characters. But still a great series, well worth the credits!

Entertaining, for time travel fiction
One aspect of this book that’s far superior to any of the prior in this series is that it’s long enough to really get immersed in the story and feel it has been well structured and fully developed.
The main theme is problematic for me though, so that dampens the effect. I can buy into so many other depictions of magic, but not this one - I just can’t. The only thing worse is resurrection, and that’s basically time travel as well. The characters in this story are good, there’s a good deal of action, the performance is great, and this one really engaged me emotionally, but it’s still time travel.

Another time
Fourth in a row for me binging on Ben Stiger and Steven Brand's narration (he's just the perfect narrator for these sword and sorcery stories).
As I just said swords and sorcery, with dwarves, dragons, orcs, evil minions, gnomes, but mainly a very interesting commander trying to save the future.
Except for a small sidetrack, Stiger is doing what he does best; strategic planning, and battles.
Even Stiger doesn't always get everything right, which only adds to the appeal of the character.
Great series for military fantasy fans.
