Summary

Gracie Burton is a grandmother living quietly in Devon. She has rarely left the village over the past 40 years. Her daughter, Carina, is immensely high-powered, with her own fast-paced business in London. She has very little time for her 17-year-old daughter, Anastasia, away at boarding school, and even less time for her ageing mother. In many ways, the three of them barely know each other.

Then Gracie stumbles upon an advertisement for a weeklong cookery course in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. She cannot resist and ploughs her life savings into the trip. Carina and Anastasia accompany her. They have no idea why Gracie has been drawn to this venture. They have no sense of her past; she has never spoken about it. They have no idea that Gracie is harbouring the secret of an extraordinary life that preceded them....

A lovely story about a lady rediscovering her past

Gracie takes a voyage with her daughter and granddaughter to Italy where she lived in her youth. In the process all the characters learn about each other and Gracie learns about a significant event in her life. The shared experience makes the characters feel closer to each other. An excellent bed time story.

Temptation

Good story but performances difficult to hear from time to time due to trying to mimic the Italian accent otherwise enjoyable

I found this book really enjoyable. I loved the story and getting to know the characters and how their lives changed over 40 years.
I will certainly buy more books from this author.

What a surprise

I started this book whilst decorating my utility room and I so very nearly sent it back, as it started a little slow and I wondered if the characters and story were really for me. What a surprise, once the trip was underway it was such a delight and I just got lost in it laughing, smiling and touched by its emotion. I’d definitely recommend, a little gem, an easy read and one to get lost in on a damp and drizzly day.

Beautifully predictable

At last a lovely story that ended as I wanted. Well written and excellently narrated. A feel good book that would make a great film.
