**NOW A MAJOR PRIME TV SERIES STARRING ALAN RITCHSON**
The gripping new Jack Reacher thriller from the No.1 bestselling authors Lee Child and Andrew Child.
Chicago. 1992. A hospital patient wakes to find two strangers by his bed.
They show him a list of names and ask a simple but impossible question. Minutes later he falls to his death from his twelfth-floor window - a fall which generates some unexpected attention.
That attention comes from the Secretary of Defense, who calls for an inter-agency task force to investigate. Jack Reacher, recently demoted from Major, is assigned as the Army's representative. If he gets a result, great. If not, he's a convenient fall guy.
Reacher may be an exceptional military investigator, but office politics aren't what gets him up in the morning. As he races to identify a cold-blooded killer and uncover a secret that stretches back 23 years, he must navigate around his new partners.
Will Reacher bring the bad guys to justice the official way . . . or his way?
Although the Jack Reacher novels can be listened to in any order, The Secret is the 28th audiobook in the internationally bestselling series.
The Secret was a No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller in October and November 2023.
‘Jeff Harding’s [...] narration captures Reacher’s character perfectly [...] you have to savour every minute.’ The Sunday Times

Step back into the past
Brilliant Jack Reacher conclusion. I really enjoyed this book. It felt like the earlier ones. Well done Lee and Andrew

As good as usual
I don’t know how the division of work on the book is worked out but if Andrew has had a large input then he is a chip off the old block as the saying goes.

Starting to get back to where these story’s should go
The past few books have been very disappointing with Reacher not acting his normal self or even more frustrating hardly in the story at all. But this one is back to the days of his army career and having to solve crimes, murders etc and that is where Reacher shines best. This book is nowhere near Reachers best and the story could have easily been made longer and more explanatory in the scenes but a pleasant listen all the same. The last few books have made me wonder if the Reacher series had come to the end but after this book I hope the Child brothers are heading back in the right direction. Not great but good enough.

Decent enough, but not great
Many of the things that usually make Reacher different - his itinerant lifestyle and total lack of ties to a boss, rules or a place - are necessarily absent in this book, as it’s set when JR is still in the army. Which automatically makes it effectively a detective / investigator procedural novel. There are plenty of great examples of that genre available, but this isn’t one of them.
I’ve either read or listened to all of the Reacher books, and I’d place this pretty near the worst of them.
That said, it’s an easy listen and you don’t have to concentrate too hard. (Best you don’t otherwise some of the plot implausibilities might grate too much).
So if you have a long drive planned, and you are fond enough of Reacher to want to spend time in his company, then this is a decent choice.
But so are Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly, Peter Robinson, Mark Billingham…

Disappointing
A short, basic book. I won't be excitedly anticipating the arrival of the next one.

Same old- but still fun to listen to
Jack Reacher is back in uniform and still kicking a$$. A fun listen, but ultimately totally daft. But that’s just fine.
