Summary

An Adepta Sororitas Audiobook

Sister Superior Augusta of the Order of the Bloody Rose and her squad find themselves battling a Genestealer Cult with its claws under the planet’s skin – and racing to prevent the arrival of a Tyranid Hive Fleet.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Sister Augusta of the Order of the Bloody Rose returns in a new Adepta Sororitas novel and must fight to prevent one of the Emperor’s own favoured worlds from becoming prey for the Tyranids.

THE STORY

Opal is a gleaming shrine world of saints and soldiers, beloved of the Emperor Himself. Sent to retrieve the skull of the revered Saint Veres, Sister Superior Augusta of the Order of the Bloody Rose and her squad find themselves in the midst of the capital’s holiest festival, a time of reverence and celebration. But all is not well – despite what its planetary leaders would have Augusta believe, political danger bubbles under the surface, and rebel attacks gnaw away at the city’s outskirts. The greatest threat, however, is yet to come.

As it becomes horrifyingly apparent that a Genestealer Cult has its claws under the planet’s skin, the Sisters realise that can mean only one thing: a hive fleet is on its way to Opal, bringing with it the planet’s doom.

An outstanding performance by Helen McAlpine.

Excellent story with well realised characters. Helen McAlpine really carries it. She makes a good story into something exceptional.

A must for any Sororitas fan or curious.

An absolutely amazing book with several unexpected turns. I went in with a open mind as it was my first Sororitas book and it delivered.
Performance was spot on.

Brilliantly Narrated, Fairly Well Written

Having followed the main character and her squad in previous stories, it was enjoyable to see them at action again. Perhaps stereotypically Saroritas whose character development was mostly seen too in previous novels, Augusta is still a compelling lead worth reading about none-the-less.
The rest of her squad continue to keep a uniqueness to their characters established prior, but there is less of a focus on them as individuals this time around (though they each do get a time to shine).
However, the new characters introduced are interesting in their own right, even if, indeed, their importance's are cut short. In some cases it feels as if a character is built up, only for their story to not really go anywhere.

There are a number of plot twists, some predictable, some not, and you feel yourself playing catchup along side the main character, who is likewise trying to make sense of everything. I got lost once or twice. At a certain point characters or narration repeat themselves too often for my liking as well. The story it self decent enough and worth the time invested to listen to it, and overall gives a really interesting perspective into what a genestealer cult is actually like. It is classically grimdark, with a somewhat fatalistic undertone, but at least its not stereotypically good guys beat the bad guys.

Halen McAlpine did a brilliant job with her voice acting and she really carries a lot of the book.

A decent Sisters novel that does the big bad justice

I really enjoyed the performance of the voice actor and the pace of the novel in general.

The ending; while a little predictable it terms of the survivors; was still interesting and while the main sister characters themselves are a little cardboard cutout, some characters shine through as unique additions. And I appreciated the severity they treated the enemy with, no glorious victory snatched from the jaws of defeat, the planets fate written 100s of years ago, while still having a silver lining -refreshing for an imperium centric novel

A good solid novel for anyone to listen too

Great narration and enjoyable story

Top notch narration, which did help rescue a few droops in the story, but overall an enjoyable listen. Always good fun hearing sisters blaze into battle!
