Summary
A small girl brings Joe Gunther a bird's nest - made partially of human hair. In the search to match a body - and an identity - to the hair's owner, Joe comes across an unexplained death, a grisly murder, and a sudden disappearance. All seem to be entangled in a puzzling web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and industrial espionage. A shell-shocked World War II veteran nicknamed the Ragman may hold the key to it all - but only if Joe can get him to talk before the murderer strikes again.

Excellent
Kept me guessing to the end. Written and narrated well. Looking forward to next in series.

enjoble if somewhat predictable
I'm enjoying the series ,some books more than others . I like Joe and can relate to most other characters but still can't take to Gail in anyway and find myself uninterested where she's in the plot too much, i am in constant hope she'll slowly slip away and be replaced for somebody with a personality .though this is merely wishful thinking I feel . decent narrator besides Gail's grating monotony

All The Characters
This book is full of clichéd character, corrupt officials, the loner who won't be missed, the people on the take down to the weird brothers. However the story moves along really quickly and the tone noticeably changed from the beginning chapters. I think by now I would expect to know more of the main characters but they remain only about as complex as book one. Overall a good book.

good
another good story, this is how I imagine real life detectives to be, I think the narrator's voice is perfect for Joe,

Another unusual plot. Very good
I like the team, like the insight into the lives of people living in a rural part of the United States.
Jo continues to be a depressive character, who as always, never catches his target in any pursuit, always falls over, drops his torch, forgets his gun? And radio. Doesn’t say please or thank you much to his team. Gail has to look after him like a mother, he is never grateful.

Okay
Not as good as the previous book. I’m listening to one after another, which I often do when I find a new series, maybe I just need a palate cleanser. I couldn’t be a narrator and I’m in awe of many narrators who are able to carry a multitude of different charters let alone a single one of the same sex, as Tom Taylorson does so well but, “Gail’s” voice is beginning to grate on me!

another winner!
Very hard to find fault in this series. Every story so far has been very different from the last and the characters are quite well defined. The reader is great in that he sounds like a tired policeman who still has something to offer. I'm binge listening the whole series but I'm not looking forward to the last one.

Another great story
Once again another great story and I love the banter between Gail and Joe which lightens the mood of the story.
