Summary

Leaving fame and fortune behind, it's the ultimate escape....

Can you live on love alone?

Willow Carruthers - British Oscar winner, style icon and mother of three - is facing a crisis: she’s broke, discovery of her partner’s infidelity has left her a single mother and, if the banks have their way, she’s about to be homeless.

Meanwhile, Kitty - nanny to Willow’s children - is desperate to keep her job and knows just the place they can retreat to: her crumbling ancestral home in the Bristol countryside, Middlemist House.

To both women in their hour of need, the idea of leaving LA seems brilliant in theory. That is, until Kitty’s brother, Merritt, returns home unannounced….

From London to LA, The Perfect Retreat is pure escapism - full of sex, scandal and intrigue.

Terrible narration

The story and plot has much potential is fine but I’d have enjoyed it much more had the narration not been so flat and monotone and expressionless . There were no highs and lows, no alteration in tension. The characters , such as they were , just “died”.

Sex and language

I suppose if you like bad language and sex you will enjoy this book. Story could have been good, so sad, what a shame the author should degrade herself so. But still I suppose some people enjoy that sort of thing. Not for me.

My Emotions were seriously played with from anger to laughter, but I loved it.

I chose this as something to listen to while writing my essay, and I can say it was long forgotten, the essay that is and I have no regrets.

Btw this is my first ever review on Audible.

(Ptssss I have had the app for longer than a year which says a lot about the story.)

Dreadful

Steer clear of this nonsense. Escapism it may be but full of worn out cliches, stereotypes and offensive in places - I didn’t get far with it

Toooo much

The endless details of designer clothes and labels - the strange accent and unnecessary details which seemed to be there just to length the story

Wonderful Narration of a Great Story

Writing this eview because I've seen criticism of the narrator. I don't understand this because I think she does an amazing job!

Good plot easy listen

I usually I thought I wouldn't like this book, but not long in and it got me, although the sex scenes were just graphic and unnecessary, didn't add anything to the story line so in the end I just skipped them, maybe I'm getting old

Total drivel

Downloaded free on audible. Used as sleeping aid. Worked well. Story was a joke. Characters all unbelievable and I didn’t care what happened. Actually was so bored I didn’t get to the end.

Willow is such a gadfly creature

Awful. The characters were so wooden. Ever click he you can imagine. Totally not for me.
