Summary

An ancient alien race, a sentient monkey, and epic battles.

Jason Grimshaw has one job.... Get the cadets to Colony 115.

Just another day. Just another milk run. Or so he thought.

When scanners pick up an unidentified alien vessel, it's already too late. With his ship blown out from under him, and his crew scattered across a war-torn planet, his day just keeps getting better.

The good news is, one of the pilots survived. The bad news is, it's the biggest pain in his ass, and she's stranded miles away.

When Clio Evans said she wanted to fly, crash-landing a starship wasn't what she had in mind. She may not be the most experienced Fleet pilot, but she sure as hell has a few tricks up her sleeve, and with an army standing between her and the rest of her crew, she'll have to pull out all the stops, even if it means exposing a secret that'll see her hanged for treason.

You'll love this military sci-fi adventure with a twist, because who doesn't love overbearing commanders, cocky redheads, and aliens with guns?

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

I haven't written a review for a while now, there's a lot of run of the mill military Sci out at the moment. most of it either superhero unbeatable or just meh stories. As they used to call it pulp fiction. This was good, out matched and barely surviving, moving from multiple storylines you do not know who will survive. This hit the spot for me and was too good to be a freebie though I'd have missed it if it wasn't. I'm looking forward to the next in the series and it has been a while since I last felt way. Thoroughly recommended. Graham

Alien seige on a space colony

I enjoyed the narration sufficiently engaging with believable military jargon. I found the story quite entertaining and engaging. Not being a Halo player it was sufficiently original for my attention. I liked the characterisation and found the way the narrator voiced the different people effective. Will definitely look for the rest of the series.

Halo Again!

Not a bad story as it goes but have to say it does seem to be a thinly disguised Halo plot; backed up by a lot of re-used alien names and slightly changed vehicle designations.

What I really don’t understand is why the author felt they has to to do this, or indeed why he thinks we won’t realise this?

And …. Just cant be bothered to comment on the narration!

Thank goodness its free or it would have been heading back for a refund long ago.

The narrator ruined any chance

The book seemed interesting but i could not get very far due to the narrator.

Good story, not the best narration.

I am enjoying the story itself, however it is hard going to listen to at times. This is mainly due to the narration and poor pronunciation of certain letters. Ideally this should be recorded again by a different narrator. I know in the future I will only by a kindle version of this story or sequels if it has the same narrator.

Great worldbuilding

Very interesting world and setup, characters, plotlines. Only minor downer for me was too many and too long fightscenes with aliens. Hoping to see more dialog, more moments of leisure.

flat story, awful narrator

I couldn't get beyond the first ten minutes of this - partly because of the trashy story, partly because of the narrator's speech impediment. Simply unlistenable.

Underwhelming

Although the the story has merit it has been severely let down by a poor narration performance, flat and un-emotional reading.

I hope it gets a re work with a different narrator.
