Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Mum, there's some people here from college, they asked me back to theirs. Just for an hour or so. Is that OK?
Midsummer 2017: teenage mum Tallulah heads out on a date, leaving her baby son at home with her mother, Kim.
At 11pm she sends her mum a text message. At 4.30am Kim awakens to discover that Tallulah has not come home.
Friends tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a pool party at a house in the woods nearby called Dark Place.
Tallulah never returns.
2018: walking in the woods behind the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started as a head-teacher, Sophie sees a sign nailed to a fence.
A sign that says: dig here....
A cold case. An abandoned mansion. A family hiding a terrible secret.
Prepare to be hooked. Lisa Jewell's latest thriller is her best yet.

Boring Cliché after Boring Cliché
This has such great reviews. Incomprehensible that anyone could have enjoyed it. Tear-jerkingly boring. So, completely characterless girl who never tells a joke, laughs or says anything interesting but is a simpering cliché of a heroine - so bland it's actually weird - loves mummy, hardly ever wears make up, doesn't approve of swearing and studies hard - oh, wait, she's also, very importantly 'not posh', gets mixed up with evil posh people who have 'priveleged laughter' and are generally bad. Not only utterly banal characterisation making the whole thing absurd (not helped by the narrator's baby voice for the heroine), but plot involving spiral staircases, hidden tunnels and clues in paintings that a second woman-with-no-personality randomly catches sight of while being fed clues. Misogynistic, pathetically trying to grab the lowest common denominator reader with simple, salt of the earth heroine and evil posh anti-heroine (the only half-drawn character in the book) and just....God, so boring.

Bloated, Long-winded with no payoff
I fell asleep on this book so many times it got to the point where I didn't even bother to go back to the parts I'd missed. I really feel like this could've been better but the romantic situationships weren't developed enough for us to care about any of them. The ending was really disappointing.

Excellent book it’s a fantastic narration from Joanne Froggatt
Fab listen, I had to finish the story much to my family’s annoyance (we are on a holiday) and every spare minute I plugged my AirPods in. Really engaging and actually made me very emotional right at the end. Brilliant narration brilliant story and like all Lisa s books, predictably good!

Entertaining but average
Reasonably well structured but unrealistic conclusion with actions from the protagonists that just aren't believable.

FABULOUS, FABULOUS LISTEN
For lovers of the mystery/suspense genre, this is a book not to be missed. I think this is the best Lisa Jewell book yet and this author just continues to outdo herself. As far as writing is concerned, there is not one foot out of place. The plot is tight and well constructed, the characters are each well drawn and the performance by Joanne Froggatt is perfect. It is a book I just wanted to never end and thoroughly recommend to all lovers of good books.

Wonderful narration & Good story
It starts of a little slow but it gets better and more engaging! This is my 2nd book from Lisa Jewels and I'm not disappointed! Love how she manages to reveal every character bit by bit and we finally see the big picture. Narration was fantastic!

13 hours flow away
Missing students, layer upon layer mystery, I enjoyed it tremendously. 13 hours flow away. Three timelines with three narrators and enigma became more enigmatic chapter by chapter.
