Story
Graham Norton's masterful debut is an intelligently crafted story of love, secrets and loss. The remote Irish village of Duneen has known little drama, and yet its inhabitants are troubled. Sergeant PJ Collins hasn't always been this overweight; mother of two Brid Riordan hasn't always been an alcoholic; and elegant Evelyn Ross hasn't always felt that her life was a total waste.

Story
The mystery of Elizabeth Keane's father is one that has never been solved by the people of Buncarragh - not for lack of speculation. Her mother, Patricia, had been assumed a spinster until she began dating a mysterious man from out of town and within months had left Buncarragh and had married. Less than two years later, Patricia was back, with a new baby in her arms but no new husband by her side and unbendingly silent about her recent past. A secret she would take with her to her grave.

He's appeared on Mock the Week, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice and Live at the Apollo, toured several sell-out solo shows, starred in his own TV pilot and even written an autobiography. He's always seemed pleasant and polite on the surface: but the truth is, he's a monster - or so he says. In Tom Allen Is Actually Not Very Nice, he stages a stand-up intervention to find out what turned him from sweet to naughty and how he can get back on the straight and narrow.

In his very first book, Alan tells his life story ("oh and what a life") with his unique twist of natural, observational humour: "I'm not saying I'm a fantasist but there have been times when things that I've seen on television when I was younger have tended to seep into my subconscious and blended into my own life. I remember telling my mum about the time I stopped that woman from having a diamond encrusted necklace stolen and she'd say 'No Alan, that was Poirot.'"

If you're a man of a certain age you'll know there comes a point in life when getting a sports car and over-analysing your contribution to society sounds like a really good idea. With a good job in sales and marketing and a nice house in Manchester that he shared with his wife and kids, John Bishop was no different when he turned the dreaded 4-0. But instead of spanking a load of cash on a car that would have made him look like a senior stylist at Vidal Sassoon, he stumbled onto a pathway that ultimately lead him to become one of the nation's best loved comedians.

'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

Summary
Graham Norton has been entertaining audiences and having fun with some of the world's biggest stars for nearly 20 years. He is loved across the nation for his delight in the peculiar and for his ability to find humour and a common ground in all that life brings.
The Life and Loves of a He Devil is Graham's funny and honest memoir on the theme of love. As he shows, it's really the things you love that make you who you are and so Graham tells his story from his Irish childhood to the present day, describing just what and who he loved - and sometimes lost - as a young boy, and his new loves and obsessions - big and small - as he's grown older. It's been 10 years since his last book and, being a decade older, Graham has come to realise that what makes a life interesting is less what happens to you and more what inspires and drives you, what you love....
From Dolly Parton and dogs to wine and Ireland, Graham tells of his life and loves with characteristic humour and outrageous candour.

If you like Graham on telly, you'll love this too.
A frank and amusing autobiography. We can share in his success but he never brags. Quite 'descriptive' about his relationships in parts.....then there's also lots in there about his lovely Mum and immediate family. And the dogs, he really loves his dogs. Loved it. But my absolute favourite is his recent fictional novel, now that is REALLY nice. Holding, it's called Holding.

Graham Norton is absolutely hilarious. This book gave me so much enjoyment, I wish it had been double the length. I am from Ireland but live abroad & feeling a little homesick gave this a listen - his humour & observations are witty, accurate & I laughed so much (especially during the dog chapter) that my stomach ached.

Weak, but diverting if you're a committed fan
If you are one of Graham Norton's many fans, then you will enjoy this collection of fairly trivial anecdotes. This is one of those rare audiobooks where it's crucial that it's read by the author - if you find his voice cheers you up, then you will find the book keeps you entertained while you are doing something else.
As for me, I like his TV programme very much, but mainly because of his talent for getting his guests to relax and entertain us. The book does a less good job and his stories didn't seem much more amusing than those of anyone off the street, with the obvious exception of those involving celebrities. So a mixed bag, probably best left to Norton devotees.

I laughed, I cried, I want more!
Would you listen to The Life and Loves of a He Devil again? Why?
Yes, candid, honest and thought provoking!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Life and Loves of a He Devil?
Laugh out loud funny as expected, but the tears took me by surprise, his reading a letter from his agony column had me in bits!
Have you listened to any of Graham Norton’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No.
Any additional comments?
My only complaint is it ended too soon, hopefully there is more where this came from .

Any additional comments?
I knew nothing of Mr. Norton before this book but he is now one of my YouTube staples. I wish American talk shows would try his format of having all the guests out together the whole time. I enjoy seeing different celebrities interact. Maybe they just don't have Norton's degree of skill at hosting. He seems like he would throw the best parties. He's hilarious & I wish audible had his first memoir available as well.

A must read for fans
If you are a fan of Graham Norton, this absolutely is a must read. I listened to the audible version which is narrated by Graham himself. Graham is a wonderful narrator and I am confident that his reading of the audio book added layer upon layer of dimension and feeling that would been lacking in the print version. My only nit with the book is I wished he had delved a little more into his personal life and journey. Although as I write that, I think of other memoirs that dip the reader so deep they nearly drown. Perhaps it is that, much like watching his weekly show, I find whatever time I spend with Graham is never quite enough.
I found the way in which he separated out the sections of his memoir was extremely beneficial to the flow of his story, and allowed the reader to not be stuck in any one particular time period of his life for an ungodly amount of time. This organization made the book easy to follow and all the more entertaining. Finally, Graham's humor is on full display. I don't think I've ever smiled and giggled this much while reading a memoir.
If you love Graham, you'll love this book!

A simple man almost surprised by his fame
I have always liked Graham Norton and when his first chapter was about the dogs in his life I knew he was my kind of person. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this man with his quirky sense of humour telling his story.
