Summary
Eighteen mutilated women in a Shanghai mass grave. But this is only the beginning of a horrific case for Investigator Li Yan and Mei Ling, head of Shanghai's serious crime squad. Ling is a formidable woman, and she appears to threaten Li Yan's relationship with pathologist Margaret Campbell. But when Campbell discovers that the victims were subjected to live autopsies, she knows she'll need all the help she can get.
The Killing Room is the third in the acclaimed China series from Peter May, author of Runaway, Entry Island and the internationally best-selling Lewis Trilogy.

Excellent series!
I am loving the China Thrillers and have listened to three on Audible in the last week! The characters are very well-drawn and the action is fast and gripping. I am going to feel bereft when I have no more Peter May books to read/listen to!

Biology is information, information is a commodity
One more good instalment in the China thrillers now we are in a different city with a different woman; plus Margaret, making this investigation that is a political hot potato even hotter, Li Yan has many problems to resolve in his personal life and his political acumen has to be sharper than ever. The discovery of eighteen bodies and the mysteries they hold make for interesting dilemmas about societies and cultures, money and political power, in a country where the party and the oligarchs are closely related.
Entertaining and thoughtful, gruesome and unflinching stories of culture clashes of our time.

A sound crime drama
I like Peter Mays work but I found this a little less riveting then usual. His characters are always strong but I found those here somewhat unsympathetic, and I really had little interest in their fates.

Good story
Love the characters. Always a surprise with who survives to the end. Culturally different to my usual listens and I am glad I persevere as the end is worth it. Usually I listen to Christie/ Nordic Noir/ UK police dramas. Baffled how a US pathologist and Chinese detective have so much chemistry .... interesting listen

Another Superb Book from Peter May
Absolutely excellent. Beautifully written and painstakingly researched. Even though there is a lot of detail and technical material, the story flows so well. You always learn a great deal from Peter May's novels. Peter Forbes is the best narrator and I wish he could narrate every book in the audible shop. This is the 3rd in the China thriller series, such a pity that for some inexplicable reason the 4th book is not available in the uk audible store.
