About this listen
From the twelve-million copy bestselling author of the Lewis trilogy comes a chilling new mystery set in the isolated Scottish Highlands.
A tomb of ice
A young meteorologist checking a mountain top weather station in Kinlochleven discovers the body of a missing man entombed in ice.
A dying detective
Cameron Brodie, a Glasgow detective, sets out on a hazardous journey to the isolated and ice-bound village. He has his own reasons for wanting to investigate a murder case so far from his beat.
An agonizing reckoning
Brodie must face up to the ghosts of his past and to a killer determined to bury forever the chilling secret that his investigation threatens to expose.
Set against a backdrop of a frighteningly plausible near-future, A Winter Grave is Peter May at his best.

Very good, but……..
I really enjoyed this latest Peter May novel, and the narration by Peter Forbes was top notch as always. He IS the voice of Peter May’s audio books. Quercus, please don’t ever bring in another reader! So this latest book in very good indeed, but not absolutely great, like the Lewis, Enzo & China series. I still give it five stars though.
My only disappointments were guessing the obvious ‘why’ as soon as a certain topic (don’t want to spoil it for other listeners) was mentioned. The ‘who’ wasn’t revealed until near the end of the book, even though there’s quite a body count. There was a nice little paternity twist later in the book, and I didn’t know which way it would go. I can see how the climate change topic fitted in with the 2052 setting, but wasn’t sure if May was employing the issue of fossil fuel use as a tool, around which to write a story, or whether he was lecturing me and reprimanding me for having a coal boiler and wood fire.

Good but not great
Wonderfully written and performed. Unusually for Peter May, the story wasn’t top notch. Not sure if this is the author’s first foray into a slightly dystopian future, but it was just lacking in believability. 2050 hasn’t moved on much from 2023 in terms of technology. The main protagonist just wasn’t likeable enough for me either. In saying that, I still gave the story 4 stars and the narration 5. I do expect a lot from May though.

Excellent
Wasn't sure if I'd like this as it's set in the future, however, just as enjoyable as his present day books!

An enjoyable trip to snowy Kinlochleven
Felt a bit of a slow start in Glasgow but once arrived in Kinlochleven the focus was on and the story got going. Really enjoyed it overall, with a great ending. Recommended!

Good, interesting story, well told, believable with great characterisation. Enough said even though this review metric wants more
