Summary
Lydia Dawson is living on the Illinois frontier when she hears an unusual doctrine preached by a traveling minister from Ohio. The message of the gospel suggests answers to questions Lydia privately harbors. Lydia’s heart is stirred, but she is forbidden by her family to have anything to do with this new-found religion called Mormonism.
In Independence, Missouri, Christian Kade is facing personal difficulties and mounting persecution because of his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ. His work on a Church-owned newspaper puts Christian in the center of a spiraling series of events which ultimately forces Christian, as well as the other Saints in Independence, into a dangerous confrontation with their enemies in Missouri.
How these two courageous people surmount their trials and come to share a triumphant love is the compelling story of In Quest of Zion, volume one of this riveting series of historical novels, The Kade Family Saga. Told with the artistry of a masterful storyteller against a historically accurate backdrop, the author skillfully blends historical and fictional characters into an exciting, fast-paced story. Lydia and Christian typify the faith and courage of the early Latter-Day Saints. Their saga promises adventure, romance, and a spiritual journey you will never forget.

A novel that contains includes the cult of mormonism
Although it’s a well written and interesting book, it’s does included the the deluded doctrines of the mentally deranged freemason john smith. It highlights how vulnerable people are to brainwashing and accepting beliefs, doctrines and theology that can be invented by mentally disabled persons for the detriment of people and nations

Pam
Found this book under Christian fiction and was disappointed to learn about 10 minutes in it was about Mormonism . I love my Mormon friends but stories like this need their own category. It is not the same gospel

good LDS pioneer fiction
This was a good story about early members of the LDS church and their trials and persecutions. The narrator's voice was a little too monotone and breathy for my taste. But I plan to continue with book 2.

Wish the description for this title had revealed the religious nature of this book. No mention was made!
I prefer books that are not overwhelmingly religious. This book is definitely overwhelmingly religious. The description should have included that detail. And perhaps also the fact that the religion is Mormon- wouldn’t matter to me which religion it was. But I suspect others would also appreciate knowing before buying.

Ugh, bad characters…bad story development
I’m going to be honest, I tried to listen to this but at some point I just couldn’t stand it anymore because I just kept thinking how, not only boring the characters were, but how mindless they were. At the point where she hears the traveling Mormon pastor I asked myself, “would the other pastors just hear this and be like- “oh wow, genius!”- just because the guy was charismatic and sounded like he believed what he was saying?” Then there’s the “wow! He found a book in the ground and because the guy who claims he dug it up from
ground believed it was from Jesus, it must be true?” I was so annoyed at the naïveté of the lead character at so many points, I just couldn’t stand to listen to any more. It’s just not a good story. Sorry. Only my opinion. The narrator was fine but there’s only so much one can do with such a blah story.

Loved the Story.
As a convert to the church I love to read and listen to historical fiction stories that while entertaining teach the struggles that the saints went through to bring the gospel to light. The narrator did a great job telling the story using different voices for different characters making it very easy to follow.

Good but slow
Very slow start and the narrator was hard to listen to, some what monotone. I couldn’t finish the book ( I tried three times), it never grabbed me and had a hard time connecting to the characters.
