Summary

Like Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' groundbreaking On Death and Dying, Susan Anderson's book clearly defines the five phases of a different kind of grieving - grieving over a lost relationship. An experienced professional who has specialized in helping people with loss, heartbreak, and abandonment for more than two decades, Anderson gives this subject the serious attention it deserves. The Journey from Abandonment to Healing is designed to help all victims of emotional breakups - whether they are suffering from a recent loss or a lingering wound from the past; whether they are caught up in patterns that sabotage their own relationships or they are in a relationship where they no longer feel loved. From the first stunning blow to starting over, this book provides a complete program for abandonment recovery.

An antidote to abandonment suffering

A wonderful book that offers real therapy to those when they need it the most, as it did to me.

Really excellent accompaniment to painful divorce

My ten year marriage broke down unexpectedly and felt very hurt, listless and abandoned. This book broke down ten stages of my grief in a comforting way and reassured me that what I was feeling was normal, predictable and surmountable. It’s a bit dated in parts as the author seems obsessed by weight gain and now being fat is very negative but if you can overlook that I would highly recommend.

Life affirming

I think Susan Anderson wrote this book after observing my first 50 years of life. I feel someone understands me & wants to put a caring arm around my shoulder.

Another amazing help with trauma.

I have finished number of books on trauma now. that one particularly helped realise my hidden abandonment issues I have not discovered by reading other books. it helped me also address and understand much better people around me. Thankful for great knowledge and wisdom.

I wish I’d had this book year’s ago

Every chapter was a lesson. I’m developing myself now with a better understanding of my needs and reasons as to why I behave the way I do

Understands the impact of abandonment

Deep and well-researched with a great understanding of the feelings and effects of being neglected and abandoned. Feels a little dated but still good.

Tools to understanding grief

I have been dealing with grief for as long as I remember. Different levels, situations, etcetera. It compounds almost as easy as debt does.
I have managed to hide and somewhat ignore that grief for just as long.
What really broke me truly and fully was divorce.
As bad as this sounds, not even losing family members hurt this much.
This book helped me understand my feelings and reactions, so thank you for that. It’s not a cure-all, everything needs work.
The hurt is still there but now I understand what it is, and how to deal with it better.
I had to take off one star, the repetition of that one word/term is really grating on my nerves.

Such a great book to aid understanding of oneself

Just what I needed to help
With my understanding and healing from fear of abandonment that alive had since childhood. I love how it gives you not just an insight into yourself, but of others too and gives you practical advice and tools to aid your growth and healing. I’m my opinion, a must read/listen for almost everybody in today’s world.
