Summary
In 1991, eleven-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped on her morning walk to the school bus. The search for Jaycee made national headlines, and the case was repeatedly featured on America's Most Wanted. But despite her family's tireless efforts, Jaycee's disappearance remained a mystery.
Then, in August 2009, a registered sex offender named Phillip Garrido appeared on the University of California, Berkeley, campus alongside two young women whose unusual behavior sparked concern among campus officials and law enforcement. That visit would pave the way for a shocking discovery: That Garrido was Jaycee Lee Dugard's kidnapper.
For eighteen years Jaycee had lived on the Garrido property in Antioch, California. Kept in complete isolation, she was repeatedly raped by Garrido, who fathered her two daughters. When news broke of Jaycee's discovery, there was a huge outpouring of relief across the nation. But questions remain: How did the Garridos slip past authorities? And how did Jaycee endure her captivity? This is the story of a girl-next-door who was lost and found.

Dreadful
A series of disjointed anecdotes strung together.
Gratuitous sexual details.
Maybe my expectations were wrong but I ended it after a couple of chapters. Not my thing at all.

Disappointed with ending.
I thought the ending would have included a little about the trial and the verdicts.

A remarkable woman
The courage and grace of Jaycee is outstanding and beyond belief.
John Glatt is one of my favourite authors and told this story unflinchingly and with compassion .
Hope the Dugard family get to live their lives in peace and with love

Hopefully lessons have been learnt by thee agencies charged with protecting society
The book provided insight into the Firlands of the police, probation and parole agencies, and how they failed to act obvious information. The story showed the courage of the survivors of abuse. I found a book to be well documented. It was written and Fred very well.

Poor poor poor
This is just a list of sexual exploits - it couldn’t be less interesting. The author should be reading to herself only, her sing song tone are all wrong for this. Had to stop after a few chapters - that’s an hour if my life tell never get back!

What a story
Fascinating and horrifying story. I must have been under a rock in 2009, as I don't remember ever hearing about this in the UK at the time or since. This was such a detailed and well-told account of events. So interesting that in many ways she was well looked after, and yet horribly mistreated. Definitely recommend.

Worth a listen
A very interesting book but it would have been better if it focussed more on Jaycee's time as a captive and her family, rather than Phillip Garrido's life and past crimes
