Summary

There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security prison:

1) Treat all prisoners with respect.

2) Never reveal any personal information.

3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.

But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most notorious and dangerous inmates.

And they certainly don’t know that Shane was Brooke’s high school sweetheart—the star quarterback who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there.

But Shane knows.

And he will never forget.

Like a cheap movie

the narrative is awful, main character gives everything thing away, you want to shout at her to get evidence or shut up. Then the epilogue is a joke

Predictable

This storyline is so unbearably obvious. The narrator is good but there is no way anyone is surprised by the ending! No tension at all. Loved the Housemaid so I’m really disappointed!

Laughably bad

I read the house Maud which was excellent by the same author. This got high reviews so ploughed into it expecting a similar experience. It was easy listening but the plot and character development was ridiculous and unbelievable.

Lots of twists in the plot

You think you know where the story is heading? Well you will be wrong! The story cleverly moves you one way, then the other, then back again, so many times. It is very well written, and brilliantly narrated. This is one I could read again.

Boring and obvious

Did anyone listen to this narrator before The book was finalized? Did anyone notice the 20 times the narrator mispronounced the word penitentiary? Did nobody think to correct it? or perhaps suggest they use the word prison instead? The first time I thought it was an error. The next 20 times she said the word incorrectly I cringed every time I heard it and it completely took me out of the story. Plus the story is completely boring and obvious. Total pass.

Terrible narration and story!!!

This was just a total waste of a credit and time.
it sounds like a 10 year old is reading a junior high school romance. Don't bother with this one.

Another twisty ride by Freida McFadden!

She is the queen of twists! The story held my attention and I didn’t want to stop listening!

The narrator was excellent other than her pronunciation "Penitentiary" which was just odd. I don't know how that wasn't picked up on during production.

how can someone get so many things wrong?

i like the story. it was different and entertaining. what I didn't like was how the main character would go into a situation saying, "omg I'd NEVER DO THAT!!" and then proceed to do that exact thing. this was the theme of the book. over and over again..so just know that whatever you think the main character won't do because she says she won't... she will absolutely do that thing.

Wow

All I seem to be able to say is “wow” and “oh my God!!” Lots of unexpected twists and turns.

Only thing that really bugged me - why I took off 1 star on performance - is the pronunciation of Penitentiary. The “e-air-e” she says at the end each time was like nails on a chalkboard to me and the word is used a LOT!!! Otherwise I would’ve just ignored it. Tempted to count how many times it’s said now. 😂

Great ending twist!

Impressions of Frieda McFadden after reading several books:
1) Extremely predictable pieces of the story. However, I’m still captivated because I have to see if my predictions are true.
2) The endings are rushed but still thrilling. I wouldn’t mind if the story was longer.
3) With this book in particular: No real understanding of the justice system. You go to county jail first, then prison after sentencing. Not prison right off the bat for a month after being arrested. That’s just my Paralegal OCD.

Overall, still really enjoyed the book, would recommend, and the narrator is great!

Love The Twists

As phenomenal as this author’s books undoubtedly are, I so look forward to the wickedly twisted endings that have me smiling like a loon. Great character development and pacing. There was some repetition but overall another great new book/audio.

Narration was excellent.

Great all around!

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator is great. She makes the characters very believable and relatible. So far everything I've read by this author has had me on the edge of my seat!

Wow!! Had me from the beginning !!

I love this book! Twists and turns but so easy to follow along and jaw dropping at the end! I am already hoping for a spin off of this one involving the person in the end! I don't want to spoil it so lets just say that would perfect!! The narrator is excellent and I could listen to her voice and how she carries books with ease. LOVE THIS ONE
