Summary

Secrets, betrayal and shocking revelations await in Sweden’s stunning holiday islands.... The Hidden Beach is the addictive story by the internationally best-selling author, Karen Swan.

Two’s a love story. Three’s a crowd.

In Stockholm’s oldest quarter, Bell Everhurst loves her job working as a nanny for the rich and charming Hanna and Max Mogert, caring for their three children.

But one morning, everything changes. A woman from a clinic Bell has never heard of asks her to pass on the message that Hanna’s husband is awake. But the man isn’t Max.

As the truth about Hanna’s past is revealed, the consequences are devastating. As the family heads off to spend their summer on Sweden’s idyllic islands, will Bell be caught in the crossfire?

Excellent

I never normally write reviews I just give a star score but this is a real stand out for me both in terms of plot and narration. I’ve listened to several of Karen’s books and am working my way through them all, she is like a chameleon moving from one country and culture another with what seems like endless local knowledge. Very impressive and lots of interesting twists.

So so...

Okay - not particularly interesting. Characters are a bit two dimensional. Plot is predictable. Okay to listen to cleaning & ironing !

Excellent

I believe I’ve read all of her novels. I know I have enjoyed them all. Very contemporary, descriptive and even though we can guess the ending, the twists and turns to get there keep you interested.

Brilliant!

Another amazing book by Karen Swan!! Although it was a bit of a slow burn, as the story progressed I became more and more captivated by it to the point that I truly couldn’t put the book down! As always, I was all consumed by the love story, the emotions of it and Karen’s description of the tensions and build up within the relationship. It was truly excellent. Karen is one of my favourite authors and I have loved all of her books!

Incredibly boring

Have listened to every one of Karen Swan’s books and I am very surprised by this book. It started off okay and then became boring beyond measure. There was no substance whatsoever at least not the first six chapters, at which point I gave up.

Spoilt by inconsistent narrator

The storyline is unusal and interesting which is the only reason I persevered with this book.

The narrator drove me insane with her chopping and changing pronounciations of names and incorrect pauses in sentences. It was read as though she'd just picked it up and had no idea what the book was about.

Also, there was far too much description. Every blade of grass and stone on the ground was described when you just wanted to get on with the story. That said the story itself was good and well written.

I might try other books by this author but will avoid the narrator.

Loved It!

Best book I've listened to in years. Plot line was unique and setting and characters well developed. Reminds me of Mary Stewart books and Sophie Kinsella's Undomestic Goddes. Refreshing I'll read all of her books.
