Summary

The stunning new story of love and secrets from the number one best-selling author of The Forgotten Village.

Can one promise change the fate of two women decades apart?

Scotland, 1940.

War rages across Europe, but Invermoray House is at peace - until the night of Constance’s 21st birthday, when she’s the only person to see a Spitfire crash into the loch. Rescuing the pilot and vowing to keep him hidden, Constance finds herself torn between duty to her family and keeping a promise that could cost her everything.

2020.

Kate arrives in the Highlands to turn Invermoray into a luxury B&B, only to find that the estate is more troubled than she’d imagined. But when Kate discovers the house has a dark history, with Constance’s name struck from its records, she knows she can’t leave until the mystery is solved....

A sweeping tale of love and secrets, perfect for fans of Kate Morton and Lucinda Riley.

Excellent narration and a first class story!!

I love Elidih Beaton as a narrator, which is the reason I listened to this book. She didn’t disappoint, putting emotion into the story and always making it clear who was speaking with her vast range of accents. Her pacing and pausing was excellent as usual.

The story itself was truly awesome! So well written I really felt like I knew the characters. There were a few twists and turns, a couple of which I didn’t predict, which kept me very interested and I feel made it better than the usual romantic stories. The beautiful location was also excellently described. The book skips between 1940 and 2020, which was so well done and very easy to follow. It was so interesting to be able to compare life for a woman in 1940 and 2020.

I would really love to listen to more books by this author, but looking at reviews and listening to samples none of the other narrators are anywhere near as good as Elidih Beaton.

Not really my cup of tea

I purchased this thinking it would be a bit more gritty and was a disappointed that it was more of a Mills and Boon love story. It was however well narrated and moved quickly so although not my personal cup of tea, I can see how it would appeal to others.
