I enjoyed this book and Sandra Duncan
very good as always but I didn’t think it was Rachel Hores best. None of the characters really stood out except perhaps the Fleggs! A light read though for exercising or doing housework to!

Whilst this is a good story it did seem to drag a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, and there were a few twists and turns that kept me from giving up. Maybe I just prefer a slightly faster pace story.

I have listened to few books by Rachel Hore, and this is definitely my favourite so far. Such a lovely, touching story, vividly portraying life during the Second World War, both in England and in France.
I did think that the narrator's voice was somewhat old and husky sounding for the main character of Maddie, but that didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of the book.

I have never listened to a book by this author & was pleasantly surprised. The story kept me wanting to listen with its several sub plots. Characters very believable. The narration was excellent & kept the book alive. I would certainly recommend.

Would like to hear more by this author. A real page turner, but very sad.I had a feeling that Philip and Sophie's love affair would bear fruit and wasn't at all surprised by the ending, just saddened by Philip 's early demise.

initially I wasn't sure about the narration but fell under the narrator's spell as she bought the characters to life.. the character of Aunt Gussie was excellent and I could really imagine what she was like and the stoic Fleg and hardworking Mrs Fleg were also excellent.
Somewhat dodgy on the French accents but such an engaging story, full of intrigue and weaved around the war time sets of rural norfolk and Occupied France.
Well worth the listen and I shall be buying a few hardcopies for Xmas presents.
