Summary

The secrets of Summer House are about to come out at last....

1976. Rushing out of the university library, undergraduate Alice Kenzie bumps straight into PhD student Tristan Somers. There begins a whirlwind romance, and Alice falls pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl. Then Tristan is killed in a car accident. Unable to cope, Alice takes her baby to Summer House, Tristan's family home in Suffolk, leaves her there and disappears.

2018. Olivia Somers has always been told that her mother died in the same accident as her father. But when she finds a bundle of old letters in Summer House, everything she ever believed about her mother is called into question. Can she find her - and even more importantly, forgive her?

Beautiful story

Gut wrenching, heart warming, beautiful story that made me smile and also brought me to tears. The question - is it better to have loved and lost then to have not loved at all - came to mind, quite a few times while I was listening to this book. Truly beautiful, and recommend it if you want to get lost in the story of two generations, of their lives, love and grief.

Slow start but stay with it

I really enjoyed in the end.
It was a slow start but turned out a good story.

nice but not amazing

starts great, but just abit slow and no real good storyline to it that was believable. I think the main character wasn't believable for this day and age. and never got any real answers.

Very enjoyable

I have read many reviews that say this narrator is annoying but I actually really like her. After listening to a book by a different author that was narrated by Imogen Church, I started to look for others that she has also narrated.
This is how i found Rachel Burton and I loved this book.

Sorry, I was so wrong!

I wrote a terrible review at the beginning of this book, but I canl't find it to change it!
I thought it sounded like a Chick Lit etc , but if you read my other review you'll see the rest of it. But I rather you don't.!
I admit I was totally wrong!
This story is absolutely brilliant.
And at first, I didn't want to carry on with it, but I was so glad I did,
you will be to if you read it and realise what has happened.
You can't miss any and I had to go back quite a few times so I didn't miss any of the story.
How she thought of it must of been hard but writing it must of been much harder. I loved it and
thoroughly recommend it, you will love it too!

Avid reader Jean

I loved everything about this book.No harsh twists and turns that make it difficult to hold on to the theme.Just pure wonder at imagining Summerhouse and the glorious atmosphere and the wonderful characters .

The narrator is dire

The overall story is worth a listen if one can cope with the awful narration. What a pity, it spoils a good listen

Surprises along the way!

Took me awhile to get used to the narrator but it was worth persevering as I really enjoyed the story and did not guess the ending.

Imogen Church narration was very good pulling off every accent even a male voice

The description in this book would bring you back to the 50s and 60s and then pulling you forward into 2019. It’s a story of forgiveness and love through a web of disaster and lies. It’s a fantastic listen.
