Summary

Gaillac, southwest France.

An unsolved case.

Gil Petty, America's most celebrated wine critic, is found strung up in a vineyard, dressed in the ceremonial robes of the Order of the Divine Bottle and pickled in wine.

An uncracked code.

For forensic expert Enzo Macleod, the key to this unsolved murder lies in decoding Petty's mysterious reviews - which could make or break a vineyard's reputation.

An uncorked criminal.

Enzo finds that beneath the tranquil façade of French viticulture lurks a backstabbing community riddled with rivalry - and someone who is ready to stop him even if they have to kill again.

Riveting

This the second book in this series, just like the first, it does not disappoint. I really enjoy how Enzo handles finding his clues through a web of intrigues. Wonderfully written and beautifully read by Peter Forbes. I am now going to download the next book (No 3) Highly recommend this book

The obsession with breasts continues...

Just like the first book of the series, "Extraordinary People," this book offers an average murder mystery in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. I also loved learning so much about wine-making, even though I rarely drink wine myself. The details and different cultural approaches to making wine were fascinating.
Annoyingly, the author's obsession with breasts continues.

Not my favourite of Peter May books

I listen to a lot of Peter May books and usually can't put them down. This one was a tad disappointing - slow and slightly boring for me by comparison. Won't stop me listening to a Peter May book in the future though - still think he's a brilliant writer!

Disappointing

The background detail was laid on very thickly and overpowered the action rather than complementing it.

Great performance story a little weak

Totally hooked on the Enzo Mc books but this was not such a good one and slightly predictable. But the others are great. And Peter Forbes fabulous

A novel for wine lovers

but some readers might find the technical details excessive (I didn't). Narrator's French pronunciation was a little inconsistent hence 4 instead of the 5 I usually give Peter Forbes.

Excellent

Only the second Peter May book I have read, enjoyed it just as much as the first. Interesting character and well interpreted by the reader.
