Summary

Number one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with The Burning Shadow, the steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux - only to discover she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is - and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous...and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

Lots of reveals for Evie

This book 2 of the Origin series and I’ve been listening to the audible version on my daily walks. The narrator Saskia Maarleveld did a wonderful job again bringing Evie to life and changing her voice for the male characters. You almost forget it’s only one female narrating.
The story picks up exactly where we left off in book one with grilled cheese lol - this made me go and make myself some 🤣🤣
This story focuses on a strange flu like virus spreading and making the humans really sick or turn into something not human. (Given we are living in a COVID world it’s rather creepy) Of course the government are trying to blame the Luxen.
This of course is in addition to strange deaths where the bodies looked to have scorch marks from a Luxen attack so things are not looking good for them.
While this virus and hate is spreading, we get some HUGE reveals about Evie. I can’t put them into words without giving spoilers but it’s something I had suspected or maybe hoped and it happened.
Throughout the journey Luc and Evie are getting closer and that’s nice to see but I’m finding it a little bit of slow burn lol. Still doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment that’s just me being impatient.
Straight onto book 2 for me 4/5
