About this listen

The Dotari Salvation, book 1:

When the Terran Union has a mission that must not fail, it calls upon the Strike Marines. They are trained to improvise, adapt, overcome and win every fight.

A deadly disease threatens the Dotari, Earth’s allies, with extinction. The cure lies in deep space, and Lieutenant Hoffman and his team will join the starship Breitenfeld as it journeys into the void and makes a desperate attempt to save the dying race. Lurking in the abyss is a threat that’s waited with inhuman patience. Hoffman must lead his Marines through a gauntlet and evade a foe designed to hunt and kill them.

The Rage of Winter, book 2:

One Shot. One Kill. One sniper to strike fear in the heart of alien invaders.

Hoffman’s Strike Marines pursue enemy agents across a wintry world, desperate to stop an insidious threat festering in the heart of the Terran Union. Their hunt is disrupted when the fanatical Kesaht invade and the team is split across the snow and ice of a harsh planet. The team’s sniper, Duke, plays a deadly game of hit-and-run to slow the aliens' advance and earns the ire of the enemy commander. Hoffman, trapped in the frigid wilds, leads his Marines and their cunning prisoners back to the front, where they must join the fight against the Kesaht before the planet is lost.

Terran Strike Marines: Publisher's Pack is an action-packed military science-fiction adventure set in the best-selling Ember War universe.

good story

A good Sci-Fi story with certain similarities to Warhammer 40K. Engaging performance and entertaining to the end. My only complaint is occasionally the performance gets rushed and sentences get merged which loses the flow.

Not the best but certainly not the worst.

The story isn't bad at times its quite enjoyable. the first book giving a sort of alien / starship troopers kinda vibe. the second, seems to fragment off into so many different perspectives i feel it loses clarity. As such you spend time listening to insignificant events i found as they had no great benefit to or for the story overall.
the narrator takes a little getting used to but puts in a solid performance with different characters my only negative impression would be that he tends to speed through a combat scene at such a pace. ( probably feeling this adds to the tension) it becomes a distraction to listen to.

Book 1 & 2

Loved it. Ember Wars Take 2. The Breitenfeld flies again. Gotta Mit Uns. Garrison sounds and acts exactly like Standish...separated at marine school perhaps.

Still good listening, but lacked Excitement

Still OK, and enjoyed it, but not gripping to the extent of wanting to keep listening. Taken 3 weeks to finish so shows the lack of Excitement.

I really enjoyed this

Having recently started listening to audiobooks, I found that LitRPG books were best able to hold my limited attention span, so when a regular story like this one is able to do so as well if not better then it's a remarkable achievement. Luke Daniels is awesome as usual, giving each character a distinct voice and personality. It helps when the author writes such good characters with which to work. Garrison is a particular favorite in both books, and Duke really shines in book 2.

The first book felt a tiny bit slow to start but still good. When the main story kicked off it kicked hard. The action and suspense was intense. I especially love hearing military terminology I'm quite familiar with in books.
Book 2 started off quick but the endless trudging through snow slowly started to bog me down just a bit, but it picked up just in time before it became tedious. I felt there were some tropes heavily borrowed from other scripts like Borg and the Hulk, but it was still good and never felt like a rehash of anything else.

If you like space opera that's a mix between Hammer's Slammers and Starship Troopers then you should really enjoy this.
