About this listen
Ten thousand years ago, a single alien super-ship survived a desperate battle. The vessel's dying crew set the AI on automatic to defend the smashed rubble of their planet. Legend has it the faithful ship continues to patrol the empty battlefield, obeying its last order throughout the lonely centuries.
In the here and now, Earth needs a miracle. Out of the Beyond invade the New Men, stronger, faster and smarter than the old. Their superior warships and advanced technology destroy every fleet sent to stop them. Their spies have infiltrated the government and traitors plague Earth's military.
Captain Maddox of Star Watch Intelligence wonders if the ancient legend could be true. Would such an old starship be able to face the technology of the New Men? On the run from killers, Maddox searches for a group of talented misfits. He seeks Keith Maker, a drunken ex-strikefighter ace, Doctor Dana Rich the clone thief stuck on a prison planet and Lieutenant Valerie Noonan, the only person to have faced the New Men in battle and survived to tell about it.
Maddox has to find a place hidden in the Beyond and bring back a ship no one can enter. If he fails, the New Men will replace the old. If he succeeds, humanity might just have a fighting chance...

Terrible Scottish accent!!!
A great listen if you can get by the accent. A very good story although quite similar to his other series. On the whole a good book.

ok to pass the time
it's ok for a time filler but the characters are stunted stereotypes, the weighting style isn't brilliant either, the characters simply go around saying how they feel.
the narrator's Scottish accent was almost a crime.

Why the scottish accent ?
Thoroughly enjoyable space romp and great fun. BUT why oh why did the narrator choose to do a "Scottish" accent for one of the characters? Given how it turned out I'm sure the author wouldn't have minded if the character had been from the Bronx but living in Glasgow. The accent is distractingly hilariously- in turns Irish, generic northern, Portuguese, Russian but almost never Scottish.

Avoid if you know what a Scots accent is
overall the story is good and entertaining but the attempt at a Scottish accent is horrendous and really off putting like some bastardised Eastern European rolling r's all over the place.. if you can't to an accent... don't try...

Good story, terrible narration
I’ve listened to my fair share of audio books, and narration is just as important as the story. Here the accents are terrible and emotions lacklustre. I persevered as the story recommended by a good friend.

Listened and liked the Story-line would recommend.
If you could sum up The Lost Starship in three words, what would they be?
I enjoyed the story, it was a bit slow to get started but I persevered and by the end I quite enjoyed it, but wondered if it would be just a one off book or would there be more to follow??
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lost Starship?
When the crew eventually got onto the ancient star ship and got it up and running by duping the hollow captain/ guardian of the old ship.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The fight between the New Men Star Cruisers.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I hoped that there was going to be a follow up book or books from Vaughn Heppner??
Any additional comments?
Give it a go, you will enjoy it once it gets going.
