Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

One year after the tragic events of The Fallen Star, the Jedi fight to break the Nihil's control over the galaxy.

The galaxy is divided. Following the shocking destruction of Starlight Beacon, the Nihil have established an impenetrable barrier called the Stormwall around part of the Outer Rim, where Marchion Ro rules and his followers wreak havoc at his every whim. Jedi trapped behind enemy lines, including Avar Kriss, must fight to help the worlds being pillaged by the Nihil while staying one step ahead of the marauders and their Nameless terrors.

Outside of the Nihil's so-called Occlusion Zone, Elzar Mann, Bell Zettifar, and the other Jedi work alongside the Republic to reach the worlds that have been cut off from the rest of the galaxy. But every attempt to breach the Stormwall has failed, and even communication across the barrier is impossible. The failures and losses weigh heavily upon both Elzar and Bell as they search desperately for a solution.

But even if the Republic and Jedi forces manage to breach the Stormwall, how can the Jedi fight back against the Nameless creatures that prey on the Jedi's connection to the Force? And what other horrors does Marchion Ro have in store? As desperation for both the Jedi and the Republic grows, any hope of reuniting the galaxy could be all but extinguished. . .

Great Start to Phase 3

I loved getting to look into how things changed over the year, and delving more into Avar's character.

Back to the high republic story proper!

Finally back to the story proper! I haven’t been impressed with phase 2, it created a lot of new lore to backfill the high republic era but as it was a standalone phase and only fed into the main high republic storyline from the outskirts I didn’t feel invested anywhere near as what I am with phase 1 and 3. This book brings us back with a bang which is what was needed! The characters are ones we’ve invested in for an entire phase and it was very refreshing to get back to them.

Performance by Mark Thompson as always is exceptional!!

The triumph of Marchion Roe

Fantastic dark storytelling with some genuine jeopardy. It's an interesting dynamic to hear how the Republic and the Jedi deal with being on the back foot, and how they react to their predicament instead of being their usual omnipotent selves. There are times in this tale when you genuinely wonder how they're going to get out of this one!

it’s getting better

this was a good book… however to say i have enjoyed the high republic story arch’s would be a stretch.

i get what they are doing telling an over arching story over various media
part of the story with comic/graphic novels

some of it with younger adult books.
but what that gives you is a messy story.

the fallen star novel or whatever it was called when the beacon fell. had the wookie dead or missing and now he’s back? how
which story do i have to read for that?

some of it is in young adult books some in other it’s just non sensible

that being said finally had avar Kriss heading a book for the first time since the first one

yes she’s been in comics but i don’t read them since star wars comics went to marvel publishing

sorry the art work sucks in comparison to the old star wars dark horse art
