Summary
"The narration by Marisa Calin is once again spot on perfection from intonation, to pronunciation to accents she gets and A+ and her portrayal of Xanthe is an absolute treasure." (The Reading Frenzy)
The second audiobook in a bewitching series "brimming with charm and charisma" that will make "fans of Outlander rejoice!" (Woman's World Magazine)
New York Times best-selling author Paula Brackston returns to the Found Things series with Secrets of the Chocolate House.
After her adventures in the 17th century, Xanthe does her best to settle back into the rhythm of life in Marlborough. She tells herself she must forget about Samuel and leave him in the past where he belongs. With the help of her new friends, she does her best to move on, focusing instead on the success of her and Flora’s antique shop.
But there are still things waiting to be found, still injustices needing to be put right, still voices whispering to Xanthe from long ago about secrets wanting to be shared.
While looking for new stock for the shop, Xanthe hears the song of a copper chocolate pot. Soon after, she has an upsetting vision of Samuel in great danger, compelling her to make another journey to the past.
This time, she'll meet her most dangerous adversary. This time, her ability to travel to the past will be tested. This time, she will discover her true destiny. Will that destiny allow her to return home? And will she be able to save Samuel when his own fate seems to be sealed?

Second treasure
Again, I was totally wrapped in this second of three books. Time travel, love, adventure. It has it all. I’d highly recommend this (and the previous) book. Now on to book THREE!! Can’t wait! x

Worth the buy
Okay, so I was a little disappointed in the romance front, gutted actually, but I loved the chocolate pot concept, and as a potter, I have since gone on and made my own chocolate pot with great joy. Time travel element became more interesting. There was a cliff hanger at the end, although I had guessed it when I realised my first hope was dashed. I will go on and read the third when it comes out.....all I am saying though, is if there is not a happy love ending of some sort I will be very unhappy! 😂😂

Intriguing time travel. Best of the series so far!
I don't usually 'do' series and usually go for standalones, but I'm enjoying this series. It appears I like books with a time travel theme! This book has a bit more depth than the previous ones and is definitely better than book 3, the previous book in the series. As with the other books, we travel back in time with the help of some antiques - this time to the Victorian times. Mistress Flyte is again a main character and we learn more about her. Liam plays a bigger part, as does Harley and there are some new characters introduced. There is a bit more character development. Scene setting and description of the period outfits is good.
We learn about 'Time Steppers' and something called 'The Visionary Society'. I can't really say much without revealing what happened or the meaning of things. The significance of the brooch with a lock of hair and the meaning of names was interesting.
Little niggles: I'm a little surprised at the risks Xanthe took involving Harley and the Spinners' book. Also, Liam mentions that Xanthe can sense other Spinners (people who are able to travel through time), although she didn't know this herself or tell him. It's quite an intriguing book and transports you to another world. I'd give it 4.5/5 stars.
Nothing disturbed me in this book but thought I'd mention some content warnings (CW) as sometimes others appreciate them. Most of them in my opinion are of moderate severity: Violence including gun violence, fire, death, murder, death of child, grief, medical trauma

Need more of these
Absolutely love this series. Paula Brackston brings these books to life and the narrator, Malissa Callin is great. Her voice is so calming but at times I’m on the edge of my seat with the story. I’ve read almost all of Brackstons books, currently listening to Garden of Promise and Lies then only the last one to listen to, awaiting the date to download. I’ll be lost without them at night.
