Summary

Two women dead.

It was a vicious, calculated murder. The killer selected his victim at Euston station, followed her home on the tube, strangled her to death in front of her child. At the same time, killed in the same way, a second body is discovered at the back of King's Cross station. And this grisly event eerily echoes the murder of two other women, stabbed to death months before on the same day.

Two killers working together.

It is DI Tom Thorne who sees the link and comes to the horrifying conclusion. This is not a serial killer the police are up against. This is two of them - and two killers are way more deadly than one....

An interesting story

The inventiveness of the plot kept me listening right till the end. BUT why does Mark Billingham insist on being the narrator? He is a good writer but a terrible narrator. He is unable to distinguish between characters and there is no energy in his reading.

Scaredycat

I am reading the DI Thorne books in order, unlike the majority of the crime novels I tend to listen to/read. I must admit that I didn't really enjoy this one and became rather bored if I'm honest. I also got quite a few of the characters confused.

The author narrated his own work competently.

Too much language

I would have carried on with the book but got fed up with the excessive amount of bad language so I’m going to return

Fantastic!

I’ve only just discovered Mark Billingham’s Thorne series, and started the series at the beginning with Sleepy Head. Realised I recognised the story line from watching the dramatisation on tv (starring the awesome David amortised as Tom Thorne) but that didn’t detract from enjoying the book also.
If you are a fan of procedural detective books you’ll love Mark Billingham’s work. So glad I discovered him, edge of your seat stuff, and I’m looking forward to getting into Lazybones next!

Pretty dark...

This is pretty dark, and so well crafted. Love Billingham's turn of phrase, plotting, twists & turns and his narration. It cracked along at a fair old pace and, having been sure I had the perpetrator sussed with some way to go, I was completely taken by surprise by the ending. I'll listen to something else next, but will be back for more DI Thorne before long!
