Summary
Archaeologists excavating a mass grave in a historic New York City cemetery make a gruesome discovery. Stacked like cord wood are skeletal remains going back decades, but all have one thing in common: Each skull bears a hole in the exact same location.
When their friend is murdered investigating this bizarre discovery, Jake Crowley and Rose Black set off in search of the killer. Their path will take them to abandoned hospitals, hidden chambers, and into the depths of the strange world that lies beneath New York City in search of Edgar Allan Poe's secret journal.
An occult murder mystery wrapped in an action-packed thriller!

Another great Jake Crowley adventure / thriller!
Ex-SAS officer Jake Crowley and historian Rose Black are in New York visiting Crowley’s elderly aunt when they are caught up in serial killings which seem to stretch back for centuries. Not only are Jake and Rose in danger, but so are their nearest and dearest. This was such an enjoyably juicy mystery with a malevolent mastermind and henchmen and lots of creeping around the NY underground. The early books flirted with mystical evils and magic, but this story totally embraces them! Audio narrator Jonathan Waters has great timbre and expression. He is such a chameleon, his smooth voice moves effortlessly between the UK and US accents.

A good exciting read
A great story with lots of twists and turns, and a clever ending. Narration was good, but a little disjointed at times, and there were a couple of missed edits.

Woo hoo another great!
I am hooked on Jake and Rose's stories. The narration:superb. The story alone is fantastic but without a good narrator it is just another good story.

Mystery, Magic and Mayhem
Another mystery for the Jake and Rose team, this time in NYC with the expeccted links to the occult (specifically Witches) and a new take on Edgar Allen Poe which was interesting. if you enjoyed the preceeding stories, expect more of the same (including the same most excellent narration by Waters) ... with a little more of the occult and macabre. As before, this can be enjoyed on its own and has the expected satisfactory ending with just a few lose ends to setup book 4 ... so in that respect, this is a really fun series.

Great series. I love these action adventures with a paranormal twist. There’s no shortage of Magic and mystery when it comes to Jake & Rose.
The narration is wonderful I love the voice of Jon Waters. This is book 3 and continues to book 4. I’m excited for the next book.
I highly recommend this book/series.

Interesting scenario
In this third book, our intrepid heroes attempt to vacation in New York. While you may treat this book as standalone, it is much better if you’ve listened to the prior books. Without some background, you’ll miss some of the nuances.
It also threw me a bit when this book started with a long segment about a set of historical events. It was creepy and action packed, but it takes a long, long time to figure out how it relates to the story that begins in the next chapter...
